Pei Liyan watched her silently, his black, form-fitting clothes sharp and uncompromising.

Qiao Rui gave a noncommittal smile without responding.

Pei Liyan continued, "You’re familiar with the incident involving Chen Haimin last time, aren’t you?"

Still unreadable, Qiao Rui replied, "The matter with Chen Haimin has become common chatter over meals, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t know, and Mr. Pei probably wouldn’t believe that."

"Miss Rui, why resort to such evasive words?" Pei Liyan smiled. "With your capabilities, I’m afraid there’s nothing you wouldn’t know."

"Mr. Pei overestimates me," Qiao Rui said, looking at the cold-faced Pei Liyan. "I’m not as capable as you think."

"Is that so?" A faint smile crossed Pei Liyan’s handsome face, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes, and his aura remained slightly cold.

Qiao Rui smiled lightly. "Does this mean, Mr. Pei, you didn’t want to see me?"

That was the pleasantries, the kind everyone knows to say.

Half-squinting her eyes, Qiao Rui spoke again: "Then, you missed me?"

Pei Liyan pulled a faint smile, noting, "Not really. Miss Rui herself has said before that a family man like myself should observe proprieties."

Qiao Rui scoffed inwardly; he hadn’t been particularly observant of proprieties back in Xinyang.

But, that meant he had made a promise, and he kept it.

"Yes," Pei Liyan replied seriously.

Then, he gave Qiao Rui a deep, lingering look, as if etching her image into his mind.

Afterward, he turned, got into the car, and left without delay.

He was saying goodbye.

Qiao Rui slightly startled, then it dawned on her.

His visit to Liu Garden wasn’t just to remind Muyu; there was another reason.

He was bidding farewell to the Ruirui in his heart.
