Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Unspeakable Sorrow
Song Muyu was in no condition to attend the wedding, especially not with the need to constantly socialize.
Qi Yun noticed the fine beads of sweat appearing on her forehead and grew even more anxious and worried.
Qiao Rui had good eyesight and naturally saw clearly as well.
Yet, before she could speak, Pei Liyan began, "Miss Song, if you’re not feeling well, perhaps you should go back and rest!"
Song Muyu was taken aback, looking up at Pei Liyan. She smiled weakly, somewhat helplessly, "I’m afraid I can’t leave yet!"
She knew too well that if she left now, Mrs. Song would probably blame her.
"Exactly!" He Lan muttered, "The guests haven’t even left. As a member of the Song Family and Shuyi’s sister-in-law, wouldn’t it be ruining someone’s reputation if she left just like that!"
"Can you just be quiet? No one will think you’re mute," He Zheng said sternly, "It’s clear Miss Song isn’t feeling well, leaving a bit earlier won’t matter."
"What’s not feeling well?" He Lan scoffed, "Brother, if I weren’t there when you got engaged, your fiancée would probably suspect I had something against her! Just endure it, what can’t an adult endure?"
Although He Lan’s words were harsh, Song Muyu suddenly felt there was some truth to them.
She laughed and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Pei and Mr. He, I’m alright; no need to leave the table early."
However, as she continued to force herself to stay, she eventually couldn’t hold on any longer.
Her face grew paler, and sweat started dripping down densely from her forehead, dampening her dress as well.
Seeing her condition, Jiang Jinfeng immediately told Song Muyu, "You can’t stay here any longer; I’ll take you away, they won’t blame you."
Song Muyu shook her head slightly at him.
Jiang Jinfeng fell silent for a moment, no longer able to bear it, he asked, "Is your life more important, or your pride?"
Song Muyu did not respond.
Qiao Rui furrowed her brow and said sternly, "Go and rest. That cold sweat isn’t something you can fake."
He Lan turned her head to look at her and was also shocked, "Are you really feeling that bad?"
Song Muyu’s face was deathly pale, obviously in unbearable pain, but she kept forcing herself to endure.
She had thought that she could hold on until the end of the engagement banquet, who would have expected to suddenly feel unwell.
Without another word, Jiang Jinfeng bent down and carried her away in his arms.
Qi Yun picked up a bag from behind and gave a slight nod to everyone, then left with Song Muyu.
On the chair, there was a patch wet with fresh blood.
Qiao Rui caught sight of it, her eyes narrowing.
She wanted to cover it up.
Pei Liyan had already picked up a napkin from the table, covering the chair slowly and discreetly.
Qiao Rui turned to look at Pei Liyan.
He spoke calmly, "Eat your meal."
Qiao Rui nodded and looked again in the direction Jiang Jinfeng and Song Muyu had left.
The other people in the banquet hall were also startled and did not understand what had happened.
Someone whispered, asking, "What happened there?"
Song Huaisan and Mrs. Song, catching sight of Song Muyu being carried away by Jiang Jinfeng, suddenly had a dark expression.
Song Xun also saw it and his eyes turned icy, his lips tightly compressed.
Mrs. Song immediately started walking toward them.
Jiang Jinfeng glanced at her and marched forward valiantly.
"Mr. Jiang!" Mrs. Song shouted, "Wait!"
Jiang Jinfeng squinted his eyes slightly, only then truly realizing the fierceness of Mrs. Song.
Effortlessly authoritative, yet impossible to defy.
This was probably one of the reasons Song Muyu had to come back for the engagement banquet, if not, it would never be the end of it.
Jiang Jinfeng ignored the call and continued walking with Song Muyu in his arms.
"Mr. Jiang, please stop!" Mrs. Song called out again with a deeper voice.
This time, her voice was louder than before, her tone more abrupt, and Mrs. Song had quickened her pace significantly, soon catching up to them.
Jiang Jinfeng had no choice but to stop, looking at Mrs. Song and saying, "Auntie Song, Muyu is feeling uncomfortable; I’m taking her to rest for a while."
Mrs. Song frowned again, glanced at Song Muyu, and asked with a grave expression, "What’s the matter?"
Song Muyu tried to speak, but the pain was too much; opening her mouth only caused her to cramp painfully.
She ended up saying nothing.
Seeing this, Jiang Jinfeng immediately said to Mrs. Song, "Sorry, Auntie, we need to go first."
Mrs. Song hesitated, wanting to say more.
Qi Yun spoke up, "Mrs. Song, Miss Song is feeling unwell, she’s been forcing herself because she was worried you’d be upset."
Mrs. Song paused, looked at Qi Yun, and said, "What exactly is the matter with this child? Why would I blame her? If she’s not feeling well, she should have told me earlier."
Qi Yun merely pulled a face and replied, "She probably didn’t want to divide your attention. Mr. Song’s engagement is most important right now."
Mrs. Song’s expression stiffened, and she said to Qi Yun, "Then please take good care of Muyu for me. As soon as the engagement party is over, I’ll come see her."
"Mrs. Song, rest assured, we will take good care of Miss Song; you don’t need to come," Qi Yun said, her tone cool and direct.
Mrs. Song’s expression darkened.
Qi Yun added, "You’re very busy today; there’s no need for distraction, and Miss Song needs more rest. Sorry, but we have to leave now."
With that, Qi Yun didn’t give Mrs. Song a chance to speak further and walked away.
Inside the car, Song Muyu collapsed onto the seat, motionless, her back facing up, her dress entirely soaked in red.
Reaching the car, Qi Yun noticed several fresh drops of blood on the ground, shockingly conspicuous.
Song Muyu was in such discomfort, and Mrs. Song had only asked once.
Normally, any mother would be frantic.
But Mrs. Song was calm, outwardly concerned, yet lacking in action.
Qi Yun sighed; after all, she wasn’t her biological child. Miss Song probably suffered in silence.
"Let’s go to the hospital," Jiang Jinfeng said.
"No!" Song Muyu shook her head.
Jiang Jinfeng looked at Qi Yun.
"Let’s go back to Liu Garden," Qi Yun suggested.
Jiang Jinfeng didn’t ask further.
In this situation, if anyone investigated, they would probably find out about Muyu’s miscarriage.
So, it was better to go back to Liu Garden to recover.
Looking at Song Muyu sprawled on the car seat, Jiang Jinfeng said to Qi Yun, "Qi Yun, set Muyu’s phone to silent and automatic reply."
"Right away!" Qi Yun immediately went to do it.
"There’s no need," Song Muyu interjected.
"Miss Song, please listen to me this time," Qi Yun said, not following her wishes, setting up the auto-reply message: Resting now, unavailable for calls, leave a message if necessary.
Back in the banquet hall, after Mrs. Song returned, she glanced at Song Xun.
He stood there with a cold, handsome face, asking his mother in a stern voice, "What happened to Muyu?"
"It’s nothing," Mrs. Song replied with a smile. "They are deeply in love; what could possibly be wrong?"
Song Xun was stunned, then said grimly, "They’re dating?"
Mrs. Song replied, "Son, you better go toast the guests. Your sister left midway; if you delay any further, people will criticize the Song family’s manners."
Song Xun replied coldly, "Understood."
