Chapter 214: Chapter 214: Inseparable

Fang Mo had not anticipated that Qiao Rui would act this way.

Normally, they would wait until the president was done with his duties before going out to have a meal together.

They generally ate a bit later than the president.

But the president never treated them poorly; they ate well and were provided for just as well.

However, today, the lady’s actions had given them a different kind of warmth from deep within.

This kind of respect made one feel deeply warm inside.

He glanced at Qiao Rui, this girl who looked radiant and beautiful but had disguised herself as unattractive for so long.

But now, seeing Qiao Rui in this light, Fang Mo suddenly thought that if Qiao Rui were always the president’s wife,

if she could end up officially with the president, that would indeed be a nice outcome.

He found himself having a small hope for that possibility.

Si Ran felt the same way.

She had seen many high-society girls in the workplace, most of whom were haughty and considered themselves very precious, eyes set high above their heads.

Some were even arrogant and unreasonable.

Of course, there were also those who were exceedingly polite, faultless in their manners but as cold as ice in demeanor.

Qiao Rui seemed special; she was different from those other daughters of prestigious families.

She was very approachable, gentle yet strong.

Si Ran also found herself suddenly hoping for a good outcome between Qiao Rui and the president.

But this was merely her wish; she didn’t know how the president would choose.

After all, the president was unfathomable, and no one knew what he truly thought or why he had chosen Qiao Rui as his wife.

Previously, everyone was skeptical about this marriage, thinking it wouldn’t last, and even the president himself seemed to consider that possibility.

But, seeing them interact today and the way the lady handled things, Si Ran sincerely hoped they could find true happiness together.

Half an hour later.

After having her fill, Si Ran conveyed to Qiao Rui, "Ma’am, both Fang Mo and I felt your care and thoughtfulness, and we thank you deeply, but please don’t break the rules for us again. The president would be angry if he knew."

"Why should he be angry?" Qiao Rui puzzled. "He’s eating while you all watch him sitting there. If he dares complain about anything else, I’ll definitely give him a piece of my mind."

No sooner had she finished speaking than a deep male voice came from the doorway, "I’d really like to hear how you’ll argue with me."

Hearing this, Qiao Rui immediately frowned, groaning inwardly, yet complained aloud, "Don’t you know how to knock?"

Pei Liyan’s tall figure stood at the doorway, alone.

He watched the three people inside the room.

Si Ran and Fang Mo reacted swiftly, standing up instantly, as respectful as mice in front of a cat.

The scene was somewhat comical.

Pei Liyan stepped back out but didn’t shut the door. Instead, he bent his slender fingers and knocked on the door.

"Thump, thump, thump."

The sound of knocking filled the room.

Seeing him do this, Qiao Rui was speechless, "It’s too late to knock now!"

"Then may I come in?" Pei Liyan asked with an elegant smile, "Beautiful Miss Qiao."

"Come in!" Qiao Rui gnashed her teeth in annoyance. "Even if I don’t let you in, you wouldn’t want to stay out; you’re not someone who takes ’no’ for an answer."

Pei Liyan raised an eyebrow, confirming her statement—he wouldn’t let Qiao Rui turn him away.

As he entered the room alone, likely Song Xun and Lu Heming had tactfully decided not to follow.

In a low voice, Si Ran said, "President, we were wrong!"

Fang Mo added, "We apologize, President, we exceeded our bounds today."

"That’s enough," Pei Liyan said sternly. "If I were to criticize you, she’d probably argue with me."

Qiao Rui nodded emphatically, "Yes, argue! Why shouldn’t we argue?"

Pei Liyan only smiled briefly without commenting.

Si Ran quickly interjected, "Ma’am, the company has its protocols."

"Every rule should prioritize humanity, shouldn’t it?" Qiao Rui looked at Pei Liyan, "Besides, this isn’t your company. I was having a meal with your subordinates privately. Apart from that, they are just as equal to me."

"Ma’am," Fang Mo quickly added.

"Fang Mo, I know you’re scared of arguing with your president, but this isn’t really an argument. It’s just discussing the matter at hand."

"Fang Mo, Si Ran, sit down," Pei Liyan commanded, glancing at them.

Si Ran and Fang Mo were stunned, looking at Pei Liyan with confusion.

Pei Liyan swept them with a glance.

The two hurriedly sat down.

Qiao Rui, too, was surprised but then broke into a luminous smile, "That’s more like it."

"Ma’am," Si Ran reiterated, "Actually, privately, the president isn’t that demanding of us, only when others are present."

Qiao Rui paused and looked at Pei Liyan, "I never knew you were so scheming!"

Pei Liyan raised an eyebrow.

Qiao Rui murmured to herself, "Yeah, people like you would have been dead a long time ago if you weren’t a bit cunning."

Pei Liyan: "...."

Fang Mo and Si Ran exchanged glances, neither daring to speak.

Qiao Rui pursed her lips, then said, "Now it seems you’re not such a terrible boss after all!"

Pei Liyan, a bit exasperated, gently smiled, "Your righteous indignation on their behalf is quite charming."

Qiao Rui: "....I’m already very gentle."

Pei Liyan smiled again, "You had three drinks without a change in expression, thinking fast. It seems our Miss Qiao Liu, you can handle your liquor very well."

Qiao Rui snorted lightly, "I’m afraid I have to disappoint you, Mr. Pei, I’m not drunk yet."

Mr. Pei just smiled.

Once again, Si Ran and Fang Mo were dumbfounded. The way these two talked was really hard to grasp.

Was this flirting or teasing each other?

Fang Mo couldn’t understand.

Si Ran was also confused.

Both didn’t dare to speak nor leave, sitting there stiffly.

Mr. Pei nodded, "It’s good that you are not drunk; if you were, it might cause some trouble."

Qiao Rui snickered, trouble, what kind of trouble?

Mr. Pei, not minding Si Ran and Fang Mo, straightforwardly said, "Today you behaved well, not overindulging in drinking."

Qiao Rui internally scoffed, she did have self-control after all.

She was also afraid of drinking too much—lest she inadvertently got close to Pei Liyan, which would indeed be troublesome.

He was right; drinking too much and causing trouble would be cumbersome.

Smiling, Qiao Rui replied, "Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Pei. As you said, getting drunk and causing trouble would indeed be troublesome."

As she spoke, her eyes audaciously scanned over Pei Liyan’s sharply defined face.

Being visually flirted with by a woman.

Pei Liyan’s first reaction was to narrow his eyes.

Just then, Qiao Rui’s phone rang.

She glanced at it; the display showed it was Song Muyu calling.

Qiao Rui knew that Muyu calling at this hour must be urgent.

But answering it in front of Pei Liyan would surely draw his attention.

Holding her phone, Qiao Rui still hung up.

"Why didn’t you answer?" Pei Liyan asked.

Qiao Rui shot him a quick look, swiftly responding, "Unrecognized number, didn’t want to answer."

Pei Liyan just gave her a look, not piercing through her pretext; he stood up and said, "Fang Mo, come out with me for a moment, Si Ran, stay with the lady, remember to stay close and protect her!"
