Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Sweet Singing Voice

Miss Song laughed heartily, "You saw through me, what a killjoy."

Jiang Jinfeng also chuckled, "Looks like tonight is destined to be an exciting night, even bumping into them when you guys come out. This fate is too deep."

Qiao Rui frowned slightly, this fate?

Ha, her luck today was really quite the village.

Seeing her silent, Jiang Jinfeng lowered his voice, "Tonight is supposed to be your new wedding night with him, right? He didn’t recognize you when you went out, did he?"

Qiao Rui was puzzled for a moment and shook her head, "Shouldn’t be, right?"

Song Muyu immediately perked up, "Just now I saw him focusing on you, be careful, Ruirui."

"Is it Ruirui tonight?" Jiang Jinfeng asked.

Qiao Rui replied indifferently, "Haven’t I always been Ruirui?"

Jiang Jinfeng laughed again, somewhat helplessly, "Right, you’ve always been Ruirui."

Qiao Rui nodded earnestly. "You two drink, let me sing a song first."

Jiang Jinfeng handed the remote control and the microphone to Qiao Rui, "Ancestor, cheer up."

"Don’t worry, I’m great," Qiao Rui said unconcernedly. She adjusted the screen, found the song list, selected two songs for herself, and also picked two for Jiang Jinfeng and Song Muyu.

Qiao Rui started singing first, and as soon as she did, her sweet voice instantly attracted a lot of attention.

Her voice was versatile; during singing, it could be sweet or salty, and she controlled the pitch and rhythm just right.

The use of breath control also seemed as if she had received professional guidance.

In the hallway, President He raised an eyebrow and said to Pei Liyan, "This little voice is pretty good, it sounds like a professional singer the moment she opens her mouth."

Pei Liyan also nodded, savored the voice carefully, and nodded again, "Indeed, sweet, ethereal, it sounds better than the average singer."

"Well, that’s rare." President He teased, "You never compliment anyone, has the sun risen from the west?"

Pei Liyan remained indifferent, casting a glance in the direction of the singing. Although he couldn’t see who was singing, the voice was indeed beautiful.

His handsome face showed little emotion, "If it’s good, it’s good; if it’s not, I can’t praise it falsely."

President He laughed again, "This voice, I feel like it’s coming from one of those two female friends of Jiang Jinfeng."

Pei Liyan listened, eyes half-closed, seemingly enjoying the sound, but in an instant, he suddenly felt the singing voice overlapped with the mewling of a kitten from that night.

Instantly, a surge of warmth stirred within him, tightening Pei Liyan’s eyes as the image of a sapphire blue figure surfaced in his mind.

Was it her singing?

President He’s voice drifted in, "With this singing, we’ve got to see who it is."

Saying this, he walked towards the karaoke box from where the voice was coming.

Pei Liyan looked up at him and couldn’t be bothered with him, suppressing a momentary irritation in his heart.

President He reached Qiao Rui’s karaoke box and peeked inside.

Song Muyu and Jiang Jinfeng both saw him.

President He smiled faintly.

Jiang Jinfeng got up to greet him, "President He, welcome."

President He glanced at Qiao Rui, who was quietly singing, a flash of interest in his eyes.

The two of them entered and sat down.

President He nodded slightly toward Song Muyu.

Song Muyu’s wide eyes landed on President He, smiling meaningfully and remaining silent.

Jiang Jinfeng poured him a cup of wine.

President He raised his glass, clinked it with his, and asked Jiang Jinfeng in a low voice, "Who is the sister singing?"

Jiang Jinfeng glanced at Qiao Rui and countered, "Is President He looking for something?"

"I just think this younger sister sings beautifully, even better than your average professional singer," He Zheng stated truthfully.

Jiang Jinfeng smiled. "If President He finds it beautiful, he should listen more, because it might be a rarity in the future."

He Zheng’s attention was fully on Qiao Rui.

The enchanting girl, holding a microphone, sat on the armrest of the sofa, quietly singing and gazing at the screen, completely absorbed in her own world as she enjoyed singing.

After watching Qiao Rui for a while, He Zheng couldn’t help but ask Jiang Jinfeng, "Is this miss from the entertainment industry?"

Jiang Jinfeng responded with a question of his own, "Mr. He, why do you say that?"

"It’s just the vibe she gives off," He Zheng said. "I keep feeling like I’ve seen her somewhere before."

Song Muyu snickered. "Mr. He, those old pickup lines won’t work anymore. You might want to change your approach."

He Zheng glanced back at Song Muyu, his face betraying neither happiness nor anger: "I’m not hitting on the lady in question, am I?"

Qiao Rui continued to sing, not even turning her head.

Song Muyu retorted, "Isn’t this hitting on her? You’ve inquired about her and now you’re just waiting for an opportunity to make a move on my friend, right?"

He Zheng thought Song Muyu’s words were quite unfriendly, and his eyebrows involuntarily furrowed, "If you put it that way, then so be it."

Jiang Jinfeng looked at the tense profile of the man and said with a light smile, "President He, Muyu is just outspoken. Don’t overthink it."

"Heh, Miss Song is famously sarcastic in the entertainment circle, she doesn’t spare even the reporters, always ready to clash. She has been courteous to me," He Zheng said with a smile.

Jiang Jinfeng gave Song Muyu a helpless look—see, her reputation is well-known.

Song Muyu was nonchalant. "What a surprise, even Mr. He has heard of my bad reputation."

She had some self-awareness.

He Zheng raised an eyebrow, suddenly remarking, "Speaking of which, Miss Song, I recall you’re good friends with Rui Qing."

Song Muyu stiffened at the mention of Rui Qing.

Jiang Jinfeng also stiffened, and they exchanged glances.

He Zheng spoke indifferently, "Miss Rui’s whereabouts are unknown, is Miss Song here to drown her sorrows in alcohol?"

That was a clear verbal attack.

Song Muyu narrowed her eyes, holding back anger, "President He, you really are small-minded."

"Why do you say that, Miss Song?" He Zheng asked with a smile.

"Mr. He, I just made a comment about you hitting on my friend. Is it necessary to be so petty with a little girl like me? I am indeed devastated by the accident involving my friend Rui Qing, but life must go on, right?"

He Zheng glanced at her, his handsome face revealing a hint of edge, yet he still responded with a light chuckle, "Is that so? So Miss Song is here to drown her sorrows in alcohol?"

Song Muyu’s expression grew colder, and the corners of her mouth curled into a subtle sneer. "Is it any of Mr. He’s business?"

He Zheng shrugged, speaking earnestly, "Not really, I was just curious. Consider it meddling."

Song Muyu laughed lightly, "I’m glad Mr. He is aware."

As the two spoke, the atmosphere grew increasingly tense.

Just then, Qiao Rui finished singing.

She turned her head and upon seeing He Zheng and Song Muyu, sensed the subtle tension.

She paused briefly, then promptly spoke, "Muyu, I’m done singing. It’s your turn to sing a song."

Unexpectedly, Qiao Rui’s casual statement defused the tension and eased the awkwardness.

Song Muyu was taken aback, glanced at her, stood up, took the microphone, and prepared to sing.

Qiao Rui patted her shoulder gently, a comforting gesture that He Zheng noticed.

He raised an eyebrow, surprised that the beautiful woman before him could so easily appease the fiery Song Muyu.

Interesting.
