Pei Liyan raised his eyebrows, his eyes so charming that they sent one’s heart racing.

Confronted by such a handsome man, Qiao Rui naturally felt her heart flutter, yet her guard was up even more.

"If you feel guilty, you can repay me in some way," Pei Liyan said playfully.

Qiao Rui was stunned. "Repay you?"

"Yes."

"What do you want?" Qiao Rui couldn’t think of anything the man could want. After all, she didn’t have the Mind Reading Technique and therefore had no idea what he really desired.

Pei Liyan seemed to have already thought it through, looked at her with a half-smile, his voice deep and rich, "Marry me, be my wife honestly and sincerely."

Upon hearing this, Qiao Rui nearly had a heart attack.

Pei Liyan slightly moved back, leaning against the back of the sofa. His figure was tall and straight, a dignified and stable mature aura enveloped him.

Qiao Rui was dumbfounded. "Didn’t you say I was downright ugly?"

Pei Liyan looked into her eyes. "Now it seems you’ve turned into a swan, I take back what I said, you’re not bad-looking."

Hearing this, Qiao Rui rolled her eyes speechlessly.

"Are you planning to date me?" Qiao Rui countered.

"Qiao Rui, to be honest, I don’t feel too bad about you." Pei Liyan’s dark, ink-like eyes fixed on Qiao Rui, his voice very serious, "You’re intelligent and meet my standards for a wife."

"If I were really ugly, you’d just dump me after you’ve accomplished your goals, wouldn’t you?" Qiao Rui was just being straightforward, guessing what the man was thinking.

"Indeed, that was my initial thought, but either way, when I first saw you, it was because you were different," Pei Liyan said in a low, pleasing, and magnetic voice, making Qiao Rui’s heart uncontrollably race again.

"Because my land is too unique, right?"

Pei Liyan’s lips curved into a serious smile. "Indeed, uniquely adorable."

Now he said this, though previously he seemed to have thought differently.

Pei Liyan noticed the skeptical look on her face, immediately clarified, "If I previously thought you were too ugly, I wouldn’t have chosen you. After all, I’m choosing a wife, not a female ghost to give me nightmares every night, right?"

"You don’t have nightmares, I have them every day," Qiao Rui complained, "After we got our marriage certificate, it was like entering a tiger’s den, especially with your grandmother locking me up in that secret room. Is your grandmother a torturous landowner by nature?"

"You stand out too much!" Pei Liyan said sternly.

"I stand out too much?" Qiao Rui scoffed, "If I didn’t have some ability, your grandmother might have killed me."

Qiao Rui scoffed even more. "Three days without food, and Pei Jibai kindly brings me something to eat, only for your grandmother to suggest we’re having an affair. I’m starting to think I should just admit to having an affair with your cousin, to justify your grandmother’s unmatched imagination."

Hearing this, Pei Liyan immediately frowned. "What did you say?"

Qiao Rui, seeing his stern face, continued, "They say, you speak what’s on your mind, perhaps your grandmother had a thing with your second grandfather before. Otherwise, why would she think of such things?"

"Qiao Rui," Pei Liyan warned in a deep voice.

Undeterred, Qiao Rui stood up, looked down at Pei Liyan, "Since you said no divorce, and you can compensate me, then let’s go. I want to see the things in your grandfather’s safe now."

"Now?" Pei Liyan was resigned to this girl’s impetuous nature.

"The night is long, dreams aplenty," Qiao Rui said.

"Huh!" Pei Liyan nodded his head. "Aren’t you afraid to return to the mansion and continue being locked up in the secret room by my grandmother?"

"Are you going to watch me being locked up?" Qiao Rui glanced at him. "Before, you could say you were not around, too busy to care, but today, if you watch me getting locked up, then I can only say..."

Pei Liyan was certain, the following words would be nothing pleasant.

Sure enough, Qiao Rui blurted out, "Then you’re not a man, incapable of even protecting a woman, you might as well become an eunuch!"

He turned his head and glanced at her, remaining calm.

"Me, apologize to her? Is she worth it?" Elder Madam Pei snapped, pointing at Qiao Rui.

Pei Liyan responded sternly, "Grandmother, everyone is equal, of course she is worthy!"

Elder Madam Pei pointed at Qiao Rui, yelling, "You wretch, are you worthy?"
