Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Can’t Let Him Take Advantage

Song Xun came back.

And the man following behind him was Pei Liyan.

The appearance of two equally tall and handsome men standing together in the Song family’s living room left the servants momentarily stunned.

To think there was someone even more handsome than their young master.

At that moment, Qiao Rui followed Mrs. Song and Song Muyu downstairs, still standing on the staircase when she saw the two towering figures below.

Today, Pei Liyan wore a handmade black suit; although he didn’t wear a tie, he brought the image of an abstinent male god to life so vividly, his every move exuding elegance and distinction.

But in the end, he was not truly an abstinent man; he just seemed to be.

Their eyes locked, and Pei Liyan’s gaze fell on Qiao Rui’s face, deep as if it could suck one’s gaze into it like a black hole.

Just by looking at him, Qiao Rui knew he was a business elite, possessing a matchless, steely alluring aura and the natural detachment of a born king.

However, after she went missing due to the Pei family’s secret room confinement, Pei Liyan had not inquired about it.

She knew she was nothing but a pawn in his eyes.

Perhaps even less significant than her identity as Ruirui, for to him, that represented an external allure, possibly feeding his desire to conquer.

So, she simply glanced indifferently at Pei Liyan, then looked away, turning her attention to Song Xun.

Song Xun lifted his gaze towards the direction of the stairs, locking eyes with Song Muyu.

His whole being became shocked when he saw Song Muyu’s face swollen and bruised, but the emotional outburst lasted only for a moment and swiftly subdued by him.

Song Muyu didn’t avert her gaze either, staring unwaveringly at Song Xun.

Their gazes intersected in the air.

Neither spoke.

Suddenly, Song Xun shifted his eyes as though he hadn’t seen Song Muyu injured, speaking to Mrs. Song, "Mom, I brought a friend home. Could you arrange a guest room for him? This is my friend, Pei Liyan."

Mrs. Song saw Pei Liyan and realized he was the one who had been in the news with Song Xun for beating Chen Haimin.

She immediately understood that Pei Liyan had acted for Song Muyu.

He had stood up for Song Muyu.

But in doing so, he also invited retaliation.

However, what Ruirui said made sense as well; not acting against such people wouldn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t strike.

It was an accident, and fortunately, Muyu wasn’t truly hurt, or else Mrs. Song might have been frantic by now.

But seeing her daughter’s tender face bruised like that still made her panicky.

Soon, Mrs. Song walked downstairs.

Qiao Rui and Song Muyu also reached the ground floor.

Mrs. Song was very polite to Pei Liyan, "I’ll have the butler prepare the guest room, Mr. Pei. It’s a pleasure to have you visit."

"My apologies for the disruption," Pei Liyan nodded slightly.

"Not at all, we’re more than pleased to have you," Mrs. Song reasserted. "The other day, you stood up for our Muyu. I really must thank you."

"You are being too courteous, Mrs. Song. I didn’t really help Miss Song much, and my actions might have even brought trouble to her. For this, I am truly ashamed," Pei Liyan spoke sincerely, not shirking his responsibility.

Mrs. Song sighed, "It’s not your fault. The blame should fall on Song Xun for befriending such ruffians. How could those kinds of people qualify as friends?"

Song Xun’s face was expressionless, showing not a hint of regret or self-reproach; he said coldly, "In the business world, you meet all sorts of people. Let this serve as a reminder to Muyu not to drink with just anyone. Instead of enjoying the life of a Miss Song, she opted for public relations."

Song Muyu’s expression hardened, his cold face etched into her gaze, his icy voice echoing in her ears.

Song Muyu froze, staring unblinkingly at Song Xun’s cold face.

Yet he continued looking at her, his tone cold, "Now that you have returned with minor external injuries, let this be a lesson. Remember not to grasp men’s hands so casually."

"Brother, your reprimand is noted," Song Muyu lowered her gaze, her tone indifferent, "I truly deserved to be messed with."

Song Xun’s gaze hardened, yet he spoke indifferently, "Being emotional, it seems the lesson was not enough."

He regarded her injuries as unseen, not considering them at all as if they meant nothing to him.

Song Muyu looked up, her gaze calm but cold.

Perhaps she had prepared herself mentally to return to the Song Family, to protect her best friend.

She had long given up any expectations of Song Xun.

He had a sharp tongue, always speaking hurtfully, and she had experienced it firsthand.

She had never thought of being the person closest to his heart, after all, what he cherished most was self-interest.

The interests of the Song Family came first.

"My brother is right; I’m being too sensitive," Song Muyu glanced at Song Xun and then addressed Pei Liyan, "Mr. Pei, this matter doesn’t concern you. You needn’t blame yourself. I’m sorry for troubling you."

Hearing her say this, Pei Liyan looked at the indifferent attitude of Song Xun and said, "Miss Song, your brother is just worried about you. Too much concern can lead to chaos."

"Thank you, Mr. Pei. I’m fine. I’m used to it," Song Muyu forced a smile.

Mrs. Song also sensed the tension between Song Xun and Song Muyu.

She immediately scolded her son, "Song Xun, your sister has suffered a great ordeal, and rather than showing concern, you scold her. You’re being too harsh."

Song Xun, reprimanded by his mother, remained cold and said, "I’m teaching her how to behave. If she continues to be so sensitive, she will face even bigger problems in the future."

Song Muyu clenched her fists, feeling very angry inside.

He was humiliating her.

Humiliated, she trembled with inner fury; yet, she knew that if she lost her temper, she would truly lose.

She suddenly smiled and said to Mrs. Song, "Mom, Ruirui and I will go upstairs first. Mr. Pei, please excuse us."

"Muyu, don’t be upset. I’ll talk to your brother properly," Mrs. Song said, unable to say much more in front of Pei Liyan.

Seeing her daughter distressed hurt her even more.

She shot Song Xun a stern look.

"Mom, Brother Pei and I will also go up to rest," Song Xun said, heading upstairs.

The guest room arranged for Pei Liyan by the butler was next to Qiao Rui.

After Pei Liyan entered his room, Song Xun followed him in.

"Brother Pei, I’m sorry for the trouble."

Pei Liyan looked at him. "Your words were a bit harsh."

"That wasn’t harsh. Without a severe lesson, he won’t learn," Song Xun said.

Seeing Song Xun’s attitude, Pei Liyan didn’t say more.

"You rest first. I’ll go call Ruirui. You can talk in-depth with her, and I’ll find Song Muyu!" Having that idea in mind originally, Song Xun wanted Pei Liyan to stay, partly for Pei Liyan and partly for his convenience.

When the suggestion came, Pei Liyan didn’t refuse.

At that moment, Song Muyu had returned to her room and said to Qiao Rui, "You must think this is silly, Ruirui."

"Don’t be formal with me." Qiao Rui saw her so aggrieved yet restraining herself, knowing that as a daughter of the Song Family, she had many involuntarily burdens. "Muyu, Song Xun will be here soon. He’ll probably interrogate you."

"I won’t tell him anything," Song Muyu stubbornly said. "He won’t get any information from me."

As they were speaking, a knock sounded.

Qiao Rui looked at Song Muyu, "Here he comes."

"I’m not opening the door," Song Muyu said defiantly.

"He probably has your room key," Qiao Rui pointed out sharply.

Song Muyu was slightly embarrassed. "You’re here; he wouldn’t dare to come in."

"You’re overestimating your brother’s limits; he won’t hesitate, and have you noticed the setup today?"

"What?"

"Mr. Pei is also staying at your house today. Coincidence or planned?" Qiao Rui asked with a smile.

Song Muyu was stunned. "You think it was deliberate?"

"If that’s the case, let’s see what these two intend to do."

"We can’t let him sleep," Song Muyu immediately said.

Qiao Rui laughed, "You better take care of yourself."

"My face is swollen like a pig’s head; Song Xun won’t be interested."

"Maybe he’s into that sort of thing!" Qiao Rui said, blinking and walking to the door, she opened it.
