Chapter 141: Chapter 141 He’s Cleaner than a Duck

Qiao Rui saw the sorrow brimming in the corner of Song Muyu’s eyes; her face was swollen and red, turning her stunningly beautiful visage into such a state that one glance could wrench the heart.

The real heartache lay in love unreturned.

"Retribution," Song Muyu muttered as if bewitched by her emotions, sinking deeper into them, "If I hadn’t sought him out that day, none of this would have happened. Heh, I brought this upon myself."

Song Muyu knew very well that if Qiao Rui hadn’t arranged for someone to save her today, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Perhaps she would have already been despoiled by Chen Haimin.

Such was the cost of loving Song Xun, and the punishment from the heavens.

If she didn’t come to her senses now, she truly would be doomed.

"The day I heard he was dining with someone on Ludao, I rushed there as soon as I found out. If I hadn’t sought him, none of this would have happened. All these events only unfolded because I went looking for him; had I not, I wouldn’t have encountered Chen Haimin."

"Muyu," Qiao Rui spoke again, "stop talking."

Song Muyu fell silent, giving a bitter smile, and said no more.

Seeing her like this made Qiao Rui feel a twinge of guilt. "I don’t mean to stop you from speaking. It just pains me to see you like this."

"I know, Ruirui," Song Muyu sighed. "And I’m fully aware of your feelings; I’m just frustrated that I’ve become someone I don’t recognize, all because of my feelings for him."

"You’re still the carefree Song Muyu," Qiao Rui comforted her again. "Didn’t you say it’s easy to change mountains and rivers, but hard to alter one’s nature?"

"That’s true," Song Muyu chuckled. "Once I get my emotions sorted out, I’ll be back to being a good woman."

"What kind of virtues does Song Xun have to deserve you liking him so much?" Qiao Rui sighed. "He even brings you harm."

"He claims that I harmed him, that I took advantage, that without my call that day, his drug wouldn’t have been neutralized," Song Muyu suddenly paused, glancing at Qiao Rui.

Indeed, Qiao Rui felt apologetic.

"It’s my fault. If I hadn’t mentioned going to Xinyang, you wouldn’t have ended up in this mess."

"No, not at all. This way, I stop yearning," Song Muyu reassured her with a smile. "At the end of the day, Song Xun is still cleaner than a gigolo."

But Qiao Rui couldn’t share the mood; seeing Muyu riddled with injuries filled her with grief.

Song Muyu spoke again, "Hey, don’t be so down, okay? Like I said, I’m still a good woman."

"Good woman, may I come in?" Jiang Jinfeng, standing at the door, asked with a smile.

"Of course." Song Muyu held out her hand, "Give me the ice pack, I can ice my face myself."

"Come to terms with it?" Jiang Jinfeng handed her the ice pack.

Taking it, Song Muyu scoffed, "When have I ever lost my senses? I still need my face to make a living. In this superficial world, if I become ugly, I’ll lose my appeal. Gotta stay beautiful."

"No need to comfort me; I’m self-sufficient," Qiao Rui spread her hands. "I’m starving. When is Qi Yun bringing food?"

"Should be soon," Jiang Jinfeng replied. "I saw the preparations were almost done a moment ago. She said it should be on time in half an hour."

"I’m starving too," said Song Muyu, who, after the ordeal of being beaten and kidnapped, was thoroughly exhausted and now desperate for energy replenishment.

While they were talking, Qi Yun arrived.

"Young Master, Mr. Jiang, Miss Song, would you like your meal delivered to your room, or will you dine in the restaurant?"

"The restaurant," Song Muyu replied. "I’ve got the strength now, I can walk."

Qiao Rui watched her rise from the bed, looking indeed a bit energized.

The three headed to the dining room.

"Ruirui," Song Muyu suddenly turned to ask Qiao Rui, "does the Song Family know I’ve been rescued?"

"Qi Yun!" Qiao Rui looked at her.

Qi Yun said, "Miss Song disappeared from the yacht, they must know something has happened, but they probably don’t know you’ve been rescued."

"I lost my phone," said Song Muyu. "Help me send a message to the Song Family, tell them I’m okay."

Qi Yun immediately looked at Qiao Rui.

Jiang Jinfeng’s eyes held a touch of confusion, "Didn’t you say you’d given up? Why keep in touch with them and let them worry, isn’t that bad?"

After all, Song Xun had tormented Song Muyu; it might be good for him to endure some distress too.

Qiao Rui commanded, "Qi Yun, find Miss Song’s phone."

"Yes!" Qi Yun immediately left to arrange a search.

Qiao Rui pondered for a moment and then said, "Calling back to let them know you’re safe is the responsible thing to do. Although Song Xun didn’t save you personally, he did entrust Pei Liyan with the task. It’s still better than not having made any arrangements."

"I just don’t get it," Jiang Jinfeng shook his head and sighed. "Your world is too complex."

"Your world is too simple," Qiao Rui shot back.

Jiang Jinfeng slumped in his chair, protesting, "Can’t you be less harsh?"

Qiao Rui nodded seriously, "Okay, I won’t be harsh. You single-celled creature, you just wouldn’t understand."

"You say you’re not being harsh, but you’re pretty much calling me brainless," Jiang Jinfeng raised an eyebrow, looking at Song Muyu. "Aren’t you going to back me up, Muyu?"

"Fengfeng, someone like you is suited for happiness. Ruirui and I, we’re the ones who have it rough," Song Muyu said.

"I’m not having it rough," Qiao Rui frowned slightly. "Why are you dragging me into this?"

"Ancestor, you’re not tired? All this changing appearances and identities isn’t exhausting?"

As they were speaking, a phone rang. Qiao Rui glanced at it; it was Song Xun calling.

She immediately furrowed her brow. "Song Xun is calling me, he might be suspicious."

"Then don’t tell him you saved me; I’ll call him myself in a bit," Song Muyu had always known, her first duty was to protect Qiao Rui.

"Sure." Qiao Rui then casually answered the phone, preempting Song Xun with, "Mr. Song, have you heard any news about Muyu?"

Song Xun sounded taken aback, "Wasn’t it you who saved Muyu?"

"I saved Muyu? How could that be?" Qiao Rui continued to feign ignorance. "Does that mean Muyu is safe now?"

"If not you, I can’t imagine who else," Song Xun’s tone was stern and tense. "Ruirui, you’re not hiding anything from me, are you?"

Song Xun’s tone was a bit chilling, laced with skepticism, indicating he was not someone to trifle with.

Qiao Rui responded calmly, "I’ve hidden plenty from you, Mr. Song. We’re not close, so why would I need to share every little detail with you?"

Perhaps it was this very calmness that aroused suspicion in Song Xun.

"You know what I mean, don’t play games with me. I’ll ask you again, is Song Muyu with you?"

"No," Qiao Rui denied flatly.

How could Song Muyu be with her? Her hands weren’t that large.

After all, Muyu was sitting right across from her, not in her hands at all; she wasn’t lying.

"Fine, if she contacts you, let me know," Song Xun softened his tone a tad. "My friend Pei Liyan is still scouring the boat in search of Song Muyu."

Qiao Rui was taken aback and retorted coldly, "So, Mr. Song believes I should know Muyu’s whereabouts, and Pei Liyan’s assistance on your behalf counts as my debt?"
