Chapter 131: Chapter 131 Catching Adultery in a Secret Room
Pei Jibai emerged from the secret chamber and strode directly towards Elder Madam Pei’s residence.
The bodyguard saw him heading to disturb the matriarch late at night, past eleven, and immediately stepped in to block his path, "Second Young Master, it’s not appropriate for you to go now."
"Not appropriate?" Pei Jibai smirked coldly. "How is it not appropriate?"
"Elder Madam Pei just lay down. If you go now and disturb her, she sleeps lightly and once woken, she won’t be able to sleep well for the rest of the night."
Pei Jibai pursed his lips and rebuked firmly, "All these considerations you’ve mentioned are for Elder Madam Pei, but the person locked in the secret chamber is also a human. Who is considering my sister-in-law?"
The bodyguard fell silent, not knowing how to respond.
Pei Jibai continued walking forward.
"Second Young Master, you can’t go like this!" The bodyguard once again blocked his path.
A gleam flashed in Pei Jibai’s eyes, a hint of sharpness appeared as he stopped and looked at the bodyguard, "I know you’re afraid I’ll disturb grandmother, then let’s discuss this."
Only then did the bodyguard realize that the Second Young Master wasn’t actually planning to disturb Elder Madam Pei but was seizing the opportunity to negotiate terms.
He came to his senses, but it seemed too late.
"Second Young Master, please don’t make it difficult for me."
"I’m not making it difficult for you, you are the one making it difficult for me," Pei Jibai said somberly. "I want to go and talk to the mister about my sister-in-law’s meal. You’re stopping me, right?"
The bodyguard was startled, "I..."
"Locked up for more than a day and a night without a meal. It’s almost two days now," Pei Jibai continued gravely. "Do you really want to have blood on your hands?"
"It was the young mistress herself who said she wouldn’t eat," the bodyguard defended.
"Shut up!" Pei Jibai snapped coldly. "Don’t forget, who is the heir of the Pei Family?"
The bodyguard turned pale, guessing what the Second Young Master was about to imply.
"My elder brother is the heir of the Pei Family. Right now, by offending not just my elder brother but me as well, you are also offending me. Grandmother is halfway buried in the ground," Pei Jibai looked indifferently at him. "A wise man adapts to circumstances. Consider your own situation."
The bodyguard knew he was being threatened.
He indeed dared not offend Pei Liyan, but Elder Madam Pei was no easy person either.
"Quietly send some food to the secret chamber," Pei Jibai ordered. "I can pretend nothing happened tonight, and won’t disturb grandmother. But if the food doesn’t reach the secret chamber, then sorry, nobody should think about sleeping tonight."
The bodyguard hesitated, a bit distressed. "If Elder Madam Pei finds out, she will definitely be angry."
"That’s your problem, figuring out how to keep Elder Madam Pei unaware is also your responsibility," Pei Jibai kicked the ball back into his court. "Let me tell you, my elder brother holds grudges even better than I do. No matter their relationship, my sister-in-law is now his person. You’d better handle this wisely!"
"Second Young Master, I’ll have someone deliver the food to the young mistress right away."
Pei Jibai snorted, "What took you so long? Get some decent food and drink prepared."
"Yes, right away!"
"Forget it, I’ll deliver it myself." Pei Jibai immediately called someone to bring food over.
In less than ten minutes, a beautifully prepared food box arrived at the door of the secret chamber.
The door opened.
Pei Jibai walked in.
Seeing Pei Jibai enter, Qiao Rui, who was seated cross-legged on the bed, was startled and looked at him, "Why have you come again?"
"I’ve secured some benefits for my sister-in-law. Have something to eat," Pei Jibai brought the food box in, opened it, and set it on the polished wooden bed.
Qiao Rui saw the exquisite food box before her and a trace of surprise flickered through her eyes, "Elder Madam Pei doesn’t know you brought me this meal, does she?"
Pei Jibai was taken aback by the question, his face a bit awkward, yet he still nodded and said, "Nothing can be hidden from my older sister-in-law."
Qiao Rui suddenly understood and thought to herself, how could such a stubborn and self-righteous old lady possibly show mercy?
The bodyguard at the door respectfully spoke to Pei Jibai and Qiao Rui, "Big Young Madam, Second Young Master, we won’t lock the door for now, please hurry, Elder Madam Pei’s people are also constantly watching us!"
Qiao Rui looked towards the door where three bodyguards now blocked the entrance.
Pei Jibai must have gone through some trouble to bring in these foods, regardless, the thought was very precious.
She glanced at the food and then shifted her gaze back to Pei Jibai’s face, speaking softly, "Do you know that you might be implicated just for bringing me something to eat?"
"It doesn’t matter," Pei Jibai said, "since if you don’t eat, it’s already too late to take it back out. I’ll surely be in trouble either way, so, sister-in-law, don’t worry about anything and just eat."
Qiao Rui nodded. "If that’s the case, then I won’t stand on ceremony, I’m indeed hungry."
"Start with the soup." Pei Jibai passed her the soup. "You’ve been hungry for too long, moisten your throat with some soup before eating anything else."
"Thank you." Qiao Rui thanked him again and started sipping the warm soup, which felt quite comforting.
Pei Jibai watched her eat, then turned to glance at the three bodyguards staring at them, and said sternly, "Watching us so closely, are you afraid we’ll grow wings and fly out?"
"Second Young Master, it’s not like that, but we can’t afford the responsibility," the bodyguards found themselves in a difficult position, unable to offend either side.
Qiao Rui spoke, "Jibai, they are also compelled, don’t make it hard for them."
"Older sister-in-law, they are all bullying you, yet you still speak for them, you are too easy to bully." Pei Jibai couldn’t help but say.
"It’s just speaking based on the facts," Qiao Rui calmly replied, "I’m not someone who is easy to bully."
All the bodyguards turned to look at Qiao Rui, touched by her words, they looked at her and then guiltily lowered their heads.
Pei Jibai shot them a glance and sternly warned, "You’d better keep tonight’s events to yourselves."
"Rest assured, Second Young Master," the bodyguards promised in unison, "we don’t want any trouble either."
"That’s best, otherwise, wait for my reprisal," Pei Jibai said darkly.
The bodyguards shuddered a bit and fell silent.
"Now get out," Pei Jibai cursed.
Only then did the bodyguards help close the door, leaving some space for them.
Now, only Pei Jibai and Qiao Rui were left in the secret room.
"Do you have something you want to tell me?" Qiao Rui, seeing him dismiss the bodyguards, knew Pei Jibai had something to say.
Pei Jibai nodded and said, "Older sister-in-law, what are you really thinking? I’ve heard from the servants that you would rather die than submit."
"There’s no reason to submit," Qiao Rui smiled faintly, "I didn’t expect your sources to be so well-informed."
"It’s not really news, Grandmother herself talked about it," Pei Jibai said, "But sister-in-law, now the whole family is saying that Grandmother has met her match, you really picked a fight with her."
"It’s not about picking a fight, I just don’t know where I went wrong," Qiao Rui smiled and set down her chopsticks, "I’m done eating, you should go back now."
"You’ve eaten very little, have some more."
"I’m full!" Qiao Rui smiled.
Just then, the door suddenly opened, and Elder Madam Pei along with Sister Li and Steward Pei all stood at the doorway.
Elder Madam Pei gave a cold smile, "What is this? Sister-in-law seducing her younger brother-in-law?"
