"Your grandmother wanted to test Qiao Rui, and you sabotaged her efforts, still think you did nothing wrong?" Elder Pei said, unable to contain his irritation.

Pei Jibai huffed, "Grandfather, I’m not wrong. If you hadn’t made my parents kneel, I wouldn’t be kneeling here today."

"Are you trying to infuriate me?" Elder Pei exclaimed angrily.

Pei Yuanji also got a fright, walked up, and dragged his son up, "Come on, stop making trouble."

Seeing her husband swallowing his pride, Cheng Meilan couldn’t hold back her anger, complaining in front of Elder Pei, "Dad, our Jibai is obedient, we as a couple are not that cunning, but being unable to catch a rabbit and scraping up a dog instead is just too much."

"I dare not," Pei Liyan spoke softly, "It’s getting late, grandfather should rest early. I also need to pack up, I have to leave early in the morning for my trip."

After he finished speaking, he walked out.

At the doorway, the Pei butler stood there and respectfully called out, "Young Master Liyan!"

That night, Qiao Rui couldn’t sleep.

Whenever she closed her eyes, she could hear Pei Liyan’s powerful heartbeat, which made her heart tremble slightly, and so she didn’t sleep at all, tossing and turning all night in bed.

She despised herself for suffering from insomnia.

She finally fell asleep when it was almost dawn, but Mrs. Feng woke her early in the morning.

"Young Madam, the Elder is here wanting to see you."

Qiao Rui glanced at her watch; it was only six o’clock.

She was startled and asked, "Isn’t Pei Liyan here?"

"Sir didn’t come back last night."

Qiao Rui paused for a moment, then nodded. "Understood, I’ll come downstairs immediately."

She washed her face, didn’t wear glasses, and with a clean, elegant face, she walked downstairs where Elder Pei was indeed waiting.

He looked Qiao Rui up and down and said, "Why aren’t you playing ugly today?"

"I’m not beautiful to begin with; just took off the glasses," Qiao Rui said. "Did Elder Pei come to settle scores with me?"

"You are indeed clever."
