I nodded and sat down to review all the construction plans. It was late afternoon when the container door was knocked just after we had lunch and Everest had suggested that we check the engineering plans of the piped works.

"Come in," Everest answered, and then his eyes widened as we watched Levi from the city planning and Licensing walk into the container office. Everest raised his eyebrows at him with his face filled with anger and Levi interjected before either of us could speak "Sorry to come in unannounced. I wanted to have a word with you Conri" He rubbed his palms on his thighs and I noticed that this was a sign of him being nervous.

"Welcome Levi, our office is always open for you" I stood up and answered politely while I watched how Levi avoided the piercing gaze Everest was giving him. Everest stood up and pushed his chair backward. He then walked over to Levi, snickered, and then left the container.

"What the hell was that?" I demanded that Levi

"I need your help Alpha," Levi bowed his head.

"You better not let anyone hear your words Levi "I scolded him and he burst out laughing. "Sorry. I just needed the tension in the room gone," He apologized.

"Spit it out!!" I raised my hand to him.

"It’s my wolf. It wants Everest. But Everest keeps pushing us away," He confessed as he walked over to sit down and ran his fingers in his hair.

"What?" I chuckled, and my shoulders shook in response.

"He is my mate. But he is a stubborn ass man and refuses to even see me. He has been pushing me away for the past week and it’s driving me crazy," Levi stuttered.

"How am I meant to help you ?"

"He will only listen to you, Conri," Levi pleaded.

"Fuck it" I cursed. "I hate interfering with people’s lives. I just want to spend my life with Lucian. You need to deal with this yourself, Levi," I asserted.

"You are kidding me, right?" Levi’s eyes widened. "Please tell me you are kidding?" I remained silent and Levi huffed, "Conri, do you know how much we have suffered as a pack? Paying the Alpha every year is part of the pack’s revenue and being bullied by the enforcers has become the norm. You need to take over from Alpha Lobo or the women, and the weaklings will not survive. People have been going missing every year, especially those who work in his mines in the mountains. I stared at him, trying to register how come he did not resemble him. Levi Isla must have read my mind, and he spoke up, "I take after my mother’s looks"

I nodded. "Like I said, I rarely pry on people’s lives, hence I never knew that Elder Ralph was your father.

" That will have to change. An alpha has to be concerned about the lives of the pack. And that is what the Golden Pack needs. "

The door of the office container yanked open and Everest marched right in. He closed it and stood at the door, eyes blazing at Levi" Are you done?"

"Yes," Levi responded without even a glance at him and then walked to the door " Move, I need to leave" His change in attitude and demeanor surprised Everest and he moved away from the door hurriedly as Levi left without saying a word.

"What the hell is wrong with him?" Everest muttered.

"You," I laughed and sat down.

He nodded and then turned around. " Do you know that he is an Isla?"

"He told me. What does that have to do with him being your mate?" I wondered out loud.

"Ralph Isla will never agree to his son being mated to a simple man like me. They come from the high class and are members of the KODA council. I know it and Levi knows it"

"What nonsense are you sprouting?" I stood up.

"Conri, do you know that Ralph is selfish? He only took you to the Adora crystal room to confirm how powerful you were. He must have done it since he was looking for a mate for Levi. Lucian came as a surprise to everyone. I know he has accepted you and Lucian. But you never know what is in the hearts of people. Removing Alpha Lobo must be his top priority. "

"Are you sure?" I demanded.

"You can ask Elder Zaya. She will be able to confirm that Ralph Isla has ulterior motives when it comes to you"
