CONRI DOLF POV

I got to the construction site an hour later and found a panicked Everest pacing up and down at the entrance of the container office.

"What is it? "I demanded

He turned, and his face was filled with anguish. "Conri, we have a problem"

I pulled him into the office container and shut the door. "Calm down and tell me. "

"Half of the workers quit this morning. Alpha Lobo got to them"

"Fucking piece of shit, "I seethed.

"I am more worried about their safety. We can manage with the numbers we have but-" His voice trailed off.

"Have you informed Elder Zaya ?"

"No. I was waiting for you"

"Amongst the workers that came in, someone must know what Lobo said to the rest. Can you ask and let us have a conversation with the person? "

He nodded and walked out of the container. I picked up my phone and called Godmother. She answered on the first ring, "Good morning Conri"

"How is your health, Godmother?"

"Don’t beat around the bush. Your call is because something is wrong," she snapped.

"Half the workers quit this morning. It seems Lobo got to them. "I informed her.

"It was expected," she stated without concern. "I will send you more workers in an hour. "

"What?" I gasped in shock.

"I have been planning for this for years. Would I not have a backup plan? As for the workers who left, I will deal with them myself. Stay out of this child. "And she disconnected the call.

I shook my head in laughter and disbelief. Everest walked in at that moment. "Conri, I am not getting anyone who wants to speak.

"Godmother has requested we stay out of it and she is sending more workers to the site," I informed him

"What?" Everest was as shocked. Then he laughed and clapped, "Elder Zaya always has a backup plan

"I know she said we should stay out of this, but I worry about her health. It will be good to get all these off her shoulders. "

"I agree," Everest nodded.

"Let us get to work. "sighed as we left the container office to inspect the first foundation of the resort.

Lunch came and old madam Shanique served food just as the new set of workers arrived with two shuttles to the site. Everest worked on the registration and after I took them through the project and the deliverables. It took two hours, and we released them to the site.

"Fuck, I don’t want to do this again, "Everest stated.

"I know. We need to maintain this set of workers without changing them. "

"The guards will be in the container tonight. They want to set up the sensors and cameras here. "Everest stated.

"I will be here till late, don’t worry, "I informed him.

"By the way, I heard you found Rex, "Everest chuckled. "I bet Alpha Lobo is growling and throwing all sorts of tantrums.

"We were lucky this time, "I huffed.

There was a knock on the container door. Everest walked to open it and then two men walked in.

"Good afternoon, we are from City Planning and Licenses. " One man spoke.

"City planning and licenses?" Everest raised his eyebrows.

"Yes, The City Council planning department has revoked the construction of the Freki Resort. Some documents for the license application are missing. "

"You are fucking kidding me, "Everest snapped.

"Missing? Since when "I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Since this morning. Hence, we are here to inform you that the construction will be on hold until they deliver all the documents. "

"What is your good name sir? " I asked

"My name is James, and I am in the planning department. This is Levi from Licenses. I could tell that Levi did not want to be here by the way he remained silent.

"Everest, can you show James the site as I remain with Levi here to discuss the licenses" I instructed.

Everest growled at Levi and left with James as I walked to the desk and sat down. I raised my hand to indicate the chair on the opposite side. "Have a seat, Levi"

He took his sweet time but finally sat down with a huff. He leaned back in the chair and crossed one leg over the other.

"How can licenses be missing? "I whispered, feigning worry. I took my phone to make a phone call, and he interjected before I could dial. "You know well that Alpha Lobo is targeting you"

"I do" I chuckled.

"I hate doing such lowlife moves, "Levi snapped

"I am a judge of excellent character and hence I would say you are a good person. " I stood up, walked to the little fridge at the corner, took out two bottles of water, and handed him one.

"So, what is your plan? "Levi asked as he slowly sipped the water.

"I will let the Due Corporation deal with it, "I laughed.

"I have an idea. " There was a small smile playing on his lips

I stood up and locked the container door. Turned around and smirked at him. " I am all ears. "

He stood up, opened his jacket, and handed me an envelope. I hurriedly opened it and all the stamped licenses applied by Anisha for the Freki resort were there.

My body erupted in fits of laughter, and I shook my head at Levi.

"Like I said, I hate lowlife methods that are used to disrupt peace. " He grinned at me.

"Aren’t you scared that Alpha Lobo will come after you? "

"No, "He confidently stated

I raised my eyebrows in question and he announced, "Conri Dolf, I work for you. I was recruited by Elder Azaya four years ago"

My eyes widened at him and was about to speak when we heard the door of the container being attempted to be opened. I put the envelope away, sat on my desk and Levi opened the door.

Everest and James walked. I sat back in my chair and changed my demeanor to a cold one.

"Are you done?" Levi was back to his irritating pretense mode.

"Yes, "James’ eyes darted between Levi and me. His eyes widened at the cold look I gave him and he rushed out of the container. Everest shut the door and turned to stare at me in question.

"What happened ?"

I grinned and took the envelope out of the cabinet and handed it to him. He took out the documents and placed the envelope on the desk. He went through the documents and then laughed. " Conri Dolf, how are you this smart?"
