Rex Dixon was my ex.

He was someone I slept with years back in the military. The worst part was that he was Alpha Lobo’s cousin and cut them from the same cloth. He was brutal, cold, and sleazy. It had taken me five years to realize it and when my transfer to Scotland came; I dumped his fucking ass before I left.

Tala closed the door and walked to sit on the couch. Rex walked to my desk and leaned over it. "Did you miss me, Lucian?"

"Fuck no," I retorted, sounding bored.

"I heard you got married to that rogue beast," He smirked.

It took me seconds to have him pinned on my table and Tala’s screams were so loud. The door of my office opened as Anisha rushed in and then Zeeb followed suit.

"Repeat what you said, "squeezing his neck as he gasped for air.

"Lucian" Anisha’s voice rose over.

"Finish him. No one can insult our mate, "Freki roared in my mind.

Zeeb rushed over and placed a hand on my shoulder. " Stop"

Letting go of his neck, I pushed him off my desk. Rex’s body hit the floor while remained there panting and trying to breathe. Tala rushed over to rub his back and he pushed her away and she landed flat on her ass.

Zeeb growled, and I smirked at him as my eyes flashed in anger " You wanted me to let him go right?"

Anisha rushed and picked Tala up. " Don’t worry, I am not hurt"

"What kind of man pushes a woman?" Anisha’s eyes glared at Rex.

"Don’t waste your breath, sister. He is the person who does not care," I declared.

Rex laughed, cynical laughter boomed in the room as he stood up. "Lucian, you never changed. Even when we fucked each other, you were always cruel and inconsiderate" He dropped the bombshell and I could hear Anisha and Tala’s gasps. Zeeb’s eyes widened, and he looked back at me in shock.

I sat down and leaned back in the chair. "Rex, you realize you are in my office, right? Your stupid words can only affect those who care about gossip. "I laced my voice with a threat.

"I came to offer you my services in your new resort project. Since I am back in town, it would be good to get my hands busy" He smiled shamelessly.

"Is he for real?" Zeeb’s flabbergasted voice rose.

"You have no idea!" I muttered.

" Due corporation will not hire the workers. Elder Zaya is in charge," Anisha interjected.

"But you are the boss, Lucian. Cut me some slack," Rex pouted at me.

Tala’s pleading eyes bore into mine as she took a step forward "Lucian please"

"Why the fuck are you begging for Tala?" Zeeb’s raging eyes bore at her.

"None of your business, "Tala snapped at Zeeb.

"No need to be all serious. I came here for Lucian. Give me your number Lucian, we can discuss the job off the office," Rex pressed on and took out his phone.

"No," I responded. Rex was the kind of creep that would pressure you and embarrass you at the same time.

"Fine. Let us do this the hard way. " He smirked and walked out of the office with an evil grin.

"How the fuck did you two get involved with that creep?" Anisha gasped after the door banged behind us.

"Mistakes of the past, ’’ I muttered under my breath

"If I remember right, he was never this irritating," Zeeb stated.

"Tala, what information are they using to force you to come here? There must be something they are threatening you with.?" I demanded.

Tala remained mute and Anisha walked to the open door and closed it.

She walked over, took Tala’s hand in encouragement, and said "Tell us"

"Ever since your wedding, Alpha Lobo has been taking it out on me. Specifically, since Ma supported you and Zeeb works here," she confessed.

"Fuck him" I stood up, yelled, and felt the table shake.

"Come work for me," Anisha spoke to Tala and her eyes widened in hope.

"I am not hiring you out of pity. But with the resort project, my hands will be full. I need your service, looking at the legal aspects and project management.

"Are you sure?" Tala asked Anisha.

"Positive. Just email them your resignation and join us today. Come, I will show you around the office and we will set you up immediately. "Anisha pulled Tala out of the office and closed the door.

Zeeb and I let out the breath we were both holding.

"Trouble has already started brewing," I muttered.

"Lucian, I am so angry right now" Zeeb closed his eyes, and I heard his knuckles crack.

"Rex has that effect on people," I stated

"How the fuck could you sleep with such a bastard?"

"I was young and angry at Pa. I joined the military to be away from everyone. I was vulnerable, and he gave me comfort. Until I realized that he wanted to be with me because I was a Freki," I informed Zeeb.

"That is one piece of shit," Zeeb heaved.

"We need to protect your ma and Tala. I suspect that Lobo Aria will take it out on them," I spoke with concern.

"Ma can protect herself. Tala is the one that I am worried about. She lives alone and I am sure that Lobo Aria will not let her off. "Zeeb cursed.

" You mate will protect her. Knowing well, Anisha will not let anyone off that will hurt Tala. "

Zeeb smiled and then nodded " I think so too. "

" What about you? What are you planning to do? Lobo Aria will not stop" Zeeb pointed out.

" Take the bull by its horns. I will not let them succeed in causing me trouble " I asserted.

" You know that if Rex insists on this, it will make Conri angry. You need to tell him before they make a move to the construction site. And knowing well how Lobo Aria is. They are bound to make a scene that will stir trouble in the Golden pack and for your new husband Conri"
