Chapter 354: SIPPING VINEGAR

CONRI DOLF POV

The calm in the Golden Shifter was felt weeks later after wiping out the threat of Aipaloovik and the old geezers from the Golden Shifter clan. News of Tizheruk defeating Cordelia was welcomed in the pack and we were in a celebratory mood for the next few weeks.

Commander Abram had bought a house and settled the Battalion Jerusha, Grahan, and Oliver in Chugach. Uncle Cadman had helped him harness the mountain power and he was training to be the next Guardian of Chugach prison and the mountain. There was no news from Tochigi as yet but the Aria family, Lovita, Aurora, Thank, and Totem had plans to go to Tochigi soon after the birth of Sayuri and Zinebs’s babies.

Hunter, Everest, and Lovita still ran the pack as I finalized the Freki resort while Lucian delegated his duties to Zeeb, Anisha, Tharn, and Toten.

That is what it was. Peace at last!!

Godmother was back in Chugach with Mrs. Hemming and the Freki Resort was almost done. But the health of Godmother deteriorated so fast and Uncle Cadman and Aurora informed me that her bones were decaying so fast.

After discussing Godmother’s illness, I a week consulting the doctors and practicing magic that could extend Godmother’s life and cure her decaying bones. I had taken a chopper out of Chugach late afternoon and gone to the mountains to seek help from a healer witch who resided on the north side of the mountain. I arrived late in the evening at the Freki Mansion and found Zeeb in the living room and he looked at me in surprise.

" Why are you here? " He asked in surprise as he sipped a glass of juice.

"What do you mean? " I scoffed off " This is my home as much as it is yours"

" I mean why are you here when your mate is gone to Chugach mountain.?" he stated.

" Lucian is not here, is he? " I wondered out loud. Zeeb shook his head at me while I remained staring at Zeeb in shock and wondered why Lucian had gone to the mountain. We had almost finalized the Freki resort and hence planned to move out of the Freki Mansion and suggested that Zeeb and Anisha move in. I left the Freki mansion, shifted took to the woods, and followed my mate’s scent. I found Uncle Cadman near the Shed and he took one look at me and said " He is in there " and then he walked away.

I arrived at the shed and found he had made a fire and prepared coffee. I shifted back to human form and realized that Lucian was furious. He never turned around as I walked towards him and I chose to be humble as I went down to my knees and placed my head on his lap.

"I’ve done something to upset you." I did not get further than the sentence before Lucian interrupted me with a huff.

"You have no clue as to what you did, do you?", he asked, disappointment laced in his voice. I winced trying to think but nothing came to mind. I stood up and paced up and down around the shed and I never felt Lucian’s anger ease. Hence I opted to shift and then sat next to him. We sat in silence for close to one hour.

" You are a coward, " Dolf spoke up.

" Yes. I would rather face the whole world than annoy Lucian" I admitted

Lucian broke the silence and then stated. "We’ll continue this conversation later. Let us go back home and rest. The journey home was also filled with silence and when we arrived Zeeb and Anisha were nowhere to be seen. Lucian went down to the bunker and I went upstairs, having a shower while in deep thought. For the first time I met Lucian, I realized that he was angry and damn furious. Once done, I walked to the kitchen, cut some fruits, and walked back to find Lucian had left the bunker.

I heaved a sigh of relief as I went up to the bedroom placed the fruits on the table and walked over to the bed and sat down. Lucian lay on the bed and I could tell he had taken a shower by the change of clothes and the wetness in his hair.

"Lucian, I can’t get on my knees and beg for forgiveness if you don’t tell me what I’ve done wrong," I stated and his eyes snapped open.

"You didn’t tell me where you have been going ", Lucian scolded. "Or that you were leaving at all. Not only did you neglect to communicate, which you should have done, but you refused to even inform me."

" I went to the mountain after Benjamin gave me the number of a witch who is a healer. I am looking for a cure for Godmother" I explained.

" Conri, do you think that I am insignificant? " Lucian demanded.

" No my love " I whispered. " I am sorry love"

He sighed. "You promised to be open with me? I called you and could not find you for five hours?"

"It’s the small things, Conri. You complain that I wasn’t spending too much time with you. Why did you not consult with me? You know my blood has healing powers right?"

I remained mute waiting for further scolding. I was confused when I heard that Godmother was dying. Hence I was not clear and I spent days looking for anyone who could cure him.

"You are mine as much as I am yours" Lucian emphasized.

I pulled him to my lap and embraced him."I have been doing this the wrong way" my voice was filled with remorse." I am your husband and mate, I should have been considerate of you"

The words seemed to have worked because I felt Lucian’s anger subside and he purred with warmth and delight " Husband " and then he added with a possessive growl " Mine "

" Yours Lucian’’ I responded and rubbed our noses together. " I know that the responsibility of the King of Wolves is demanding. The thought of losing Godmother had been too much to bear. I am sorry I neglected you, my mate. I love you. Forgive this silly man"

"I know you must protect me, Conri, and you do it well. But I must protect you. No one, absolutely no one, will deny me the right to defend what’s mine. When it comes to healing, no one can surpass the blood of the Freki. Those five hours were too long and I almost went crazy when I could not find you though Freki assured me that Dolf told him you were safe. "

My eyes widened and I felt all the weight on my shoulders lessen. " I should have come to you from the beginning. The trip to the mountain to find out about the decaying. Was fruitless as I came out empty and yet here you were. Forgive me, Lucian"

" You are forgiven" He nodded.

" Why did you not use the mind link to contact me ?" I asked.

" I was too furious! " He chuckled. " I searched for you and came up empty. You were not in the Freki resort or the pack offices. And no one knew where you were. Until Benjamin called and said you had taken a trip and would be back in five hours"

" Sorry Lilp pup. I will make it up to you " I rubbed my nose on his neck.

" You must be tired. ’’ He pulled me down on the bed and held me close to him. My body went on a lax mode and I fell asleep almost taking over. I had been running up and down since I was told that Godmother had fainted and the pack doctor announced Godmother’s disease. Dolf had reminded me of the words that were important between Lucian and me " Two halves, each with its power, to rule as one ". I had been bearing the weight of destiny meant for two people all on my own and Lucian had reminded me that we were one. He was meant to be mine, as one, and share the burden of leadership.

" Lucian, are you willing to give your blood to Godmother? I have always been against this for but this time, I am the one that is asking" I whispered.

He smacked my shoulder and responded ’ What kind of a question is that? You know how important Godmother is to me. She was the one who supported me when I was pursuing you. And I promised her grandchildren before she left this world. There have been too many deaths and we can’t lose any more lives. The golden shifter pack would not be where it is hadn’t she stood by you and even prepared the pack for you as you become Alpha. I called Tizheruk already and we discussed it. He will be here tomorrow"

" Thank you Lil pup. You are worth being the mate of the King of Wolves" I responded before I fell into a deep sleep.
