HAIDA’S POV

I woke Bering up at five am. I knew how early Elder Zaya and Mrs. Hemming woke up to prepare breakfast for everyone and the babies.

" Haida" Bering whined "Let me sleep some more"

"Come on Bering, I want to make breakfast for Elder Zaya and Mrs. Hemming since they are leaving for Chugach soon.

He opened his eyes and sat up on the bed "I understand "

After a shower, we dressed and went downstairs to make breakfast. My hearing alerted me that Elder Zaya was already up and she was arguing with someone in the kitchen. We stealthily walked to the kitchen, and before we even entered we heard Elder Zaya scolding someone.

"You don’t expect me to believe this bullshit, Asheral. Your kind has always been against the shifters. The reason is that they were more powerful than any serpent shifters or vampires. I have been watching you since you discovered your daughter betrayed us and instead of looking at the bigger picture you are being selfish.

"Zaya, you know very well that the Aipaloovik only wanted power and the shifters that will suffer the most from all this will be the dark serpents. No one will ever trust us, " Asheral insisted.

" Asheral, Tizheruk was kind enough to spare your daughter’s life. How could you even think that we would crucify the dark serpent shifter because of Cordelia and Aipaloovik? " Elder Zaya responded.

" Godmother is right ’’ I walked into the kitchen and Bering was right behind me. I felt Asheral secretly reading me and I pushed her power away. If it were me, I would have killed her, " I retorted.

Godmother laughed and then pulled me to the kitchen counter. "Sit here my child, let me prepare something to eat. "

"Godmother, I woke up to prepare breakfast for you. Have a seat while I do it " I interjected.

"Asheral, you are free to speak your mind, " Bering encouraged her. But my senses told me something was wrong and Asheral was hiding why she came to the villa early in the morning.

She was quiet for a while and then said "My Lord, I am worried as you are. Cordelia is out there and my daughter is not telling me anything. I am just frustrated. Please excuse me "She bowed, turned around, and left.

Godmother heaved a sigh and said, "Don’t listen to her."

I laughed, walked over, and hugged her. "You are something else, Godmother. "

"Have you spoken to Conri and Lucian?" Godmother asked Bering.

"Yes. They are back to their usual daily activities. Running the pack and Due corporation" Bering responded.

"Mmh," Grandma nodded " Now that you have two nannies and plenty of guards in the villa, you need to spend time with Haida. She misses you alot"

"You are always protecting Haida, " Bering pouted.

"Yes. You are the serpent sea god. A born leader. Do you need protection? " Godmother winked at Bering.

"I see nothing wrong with being a leader, " Bering chuckled.

Godmother walked over placed her hand on Bering’s cheek and said " Never, ever, let your guard down. No one is trustworthy especially when they are forced to choose between loved ones and loyalty. I know that the bond between you and Conri is granted by the gods. You are truly blessed and that gives me comfort. "

"Thank you, Godmother. "I stood up and hugged her" You are the best "

She blushed and said "You have to promise me to take care of Haida. But I have a feeling as her power grows, she will need no one to protect her "

"Of course, I will be able to protect Bering"

"Don’t even think about it "Bering scolded me and we burst out laughing. " Go back to bed, Godmother. Bering and I will make breakfast." She nodded and left.

It took us an hour and we opted to go for a swim as Bering dragged me to the balcony, shifted into serpent form, taking me with him and we landed in the water, naked in human form.

When we surfaced up for air I shook my head and said " I will never get used to how you can shift midair and back to human form. "

"It’s a serpent thing" He laughed and pulled me close.

"There is something I want to tell you. Today when Asheral was staring at me, I felt her pushing thoughts into my mind. I felt her power. It was like pins and needles on my skin but I managed to push her power away."

"Why the fuck did you not tell me? "Bering scolded me.

"Calm down Bering. I am not as weak as everyone perceives me. I will not have you also see me as a weakling" I pushed him away and swam up the corals.

He caught up with me and pulled me into an embrace "Try and understand me, Haida. You are my mate. I fear the unknown. Especially now that we know Cordelia is proclaiming herself as the serpent queen. I can’t have anything happening to you. Our strongest and weakest point is our mating bond. And now our pups might be in danger because of her greed"

" I understand Bering. I will listen to you" I had responded as he dragged me to a secluded place on the beach and hammered into me.

It was late afternoon when I took a nap after feeding the babies and then a strange woman visited me in my dreams. I had struggled to get out of the dream but I was being pulled back deep into it and then realized that we were at the bed of the ocean.

" Why do you keep running away ?" She said " You and your mother have the same habit. Always running from your birth heritage. Assuming that everyone is good and making a mess in the end"

" Who are you and what do you want?" I sarcastically responded in the dream. I did not know that it was possible to talk in a dream and seemed surprised to hear my words.

" It is possible. But only for the seawolf and the mate of the serpent sea god" she responded.

" Whatever" I snickered.

" You are born from the love of a serpent sea god and a wolf. You do know that, right? " She snickered

" So what ?" I responded to her.

" There is one who claims to be the queen of the sea. Born from love and evil, harnessed by the power of the crystal and pearls and now walks the earth with no remorse but out to do evil." The woman’s voice responded.

I huffed and struggled to get out of the dream after what she said but her laughter was so loud " Haida, the mate of the serpent sea god, born immortal and given birth to the prince and princess of the sea, you are bound to be a great queen. But only if you defeat Cordelia. This is a fight that can’t sit back"

" I don’t want any part of this. I want to remain the mother of my babies and just raise them in peace" I gasped.

" Do you think it was by accident that you met Tizheruk Bering? r"

" Shut up. " struggled to break free from the dream.

" Heed my words Haida. You better not resist" The woman’s voice was laced with warning.

" How come you only appeared to me now? " I demanded.

" The mating bond and the birth of the prince and princess has activated your powers. Soon they will grow and you have to embrace your destiny"

" I don’t even know you nor do I care. Be gone" I used all my strength and pushed my way out of the dream as my eyes snapped open. My body was covered in sweat as I sat up on the bed.

" Who are you talking to Haida? " he demanded as he stood on the bed hovering over me.

"Bering," I said and pulled him down for a hug. " Let me take a shower and I will explain.

" Are you going to tell me what is happening?" Bering whispered as he picked me up and walked to the bathroom. He stripped me and bathed me. Once done, he dressed me and then put me back on the bed. I narrated to Bering everything about the dream and he listened to me with keen interest.

" What did the voice sound like ?" Bering asked.

I closed my eyes and tried to remember what the voice sounded like and then my eyes snapped open and whispered " It sounded like Asheral"

" What the fuck do you mean " Bering seethed and looked like he was about to murder someone.

" Calm down, Bering. I know that it was only a dream but it felt real. " I responded.

" Do you think that Asheral is the one who did this? She did try to push her powers on you this morning, " Bering pointed out.

" She must have been testing my mind and found a weakness. " I gasped.

" Come on. Let us go and face her. I will not allow her to play games with us" Bering seethed and dragged me out of the villa after instructing the nannies to take care of the babies and inform Mrs. Hemming and Godmother that we were going out.
