Conri and I arrived from work two weeks later and found Captain Abram and his team waiting for us at the mansion. We had relocated Uncle Cadman to the private hospital where he was recuperating. His injuries needed him to have a nurse around him twenty-four-seven. We took turns visiting him and he was improving greatly.

" I am hungry " Oliver spoke up and Conri chuckled as we worked to prepare dinner for all of us.

" I want a husband like him," Jerusha pointed at the kitchen door.

" He is one of a kind" " Graham nodded. " I heard what happened in Tochigi. The king of wolves did well. "

" He did. And I would have loved to witness him defeat Lobo Aria" Oliver responded.

" How do you feel? You have a new power in your body " Captain Abram stated.

" I feel great. I can’t explain it but the powers from my mother are in sync with Freki. And the fact that I was able to protect Conri makes it all worth it. " I explained.

" You are lucky. You need to protect each other because the power you hold will not burger well with other shifters. There are people in this world that would covet your powers and Conri’s as well. There are so many Lobos and Isamu that reside in this world. " Captain Abram stated.

" That is true" I nodded and Conri appeared at the door of the kitchen.

"Dinner is ready. Help me set the table"

Oliver and Jerusha rushed to set the table and we sat down to have a hearty meal. After, Graham did the dishes and then we all sat in the living room. I had a feeling the battalion had some news for me and hence I waited for them to speak up.

"Lucian, we are here to bid you farewell " Captain Abram announced as we sat in the living room of the Freki mansion with Oliver, Jerusha, and Graham on one side and Conri and I on the other side of the couch.

" Have you been deployed?" I asked

" We have a new mission and we need to leave in the next twenty-four hours. " Jerusha seemed displeased.

" You can always stay behind " Conri encouraged him and we all burst out laughing.

" I could. The food here is great. The forest offers us cover and the coldness of Alaska makes my beast and wolf relaxed. I could stay, " Jerusha responded wistfully.

" But I would miss you, " Graham chuckled.

" No. You would not. It’s just that you are family and I have to be where you are " Jerusha responded and Oliver beamed.

" I knew it, " Captain Abram nodded. " You have all grown on us but we have to leave. We shall be back after the mission though it might take a year"

" Don’t worry. We shall miss you all" Conri said.

" Yes, we shall miss you " Lucian stood up and embraced Captain Abram. Jerusha, Graham, and Oliver stood up and hugged Lucian too.

" You need to tell me exactly where you will be stationed when you get there. Send me a message or something " Lucian stated.

" You know we can’t. " Oliver smirked.

" Find a way to ensure we are in communication " Lucian emphasized.

Captain Abram nodded before they left the Freki mansion and then it was all quiet.

" You seem lost in thought " Conri’s voice reached my ears.

" It was good to have everyone over even though it was all about saving our lives. Now that we are left here, the mansion is empty and I feel as though we are all growing apart. I want more time with everyone but everyone must remain safe" I informed Conri.

" Come on" He pulled me up and said " Let us go for a run"

We left the Freki mansion after shifting and took off from the woods. Into the Freki mansion and then Conri changed course and up we went up the mountain until we got to the peak with the river flowing. We stood in our wolf forms, Dolf standing taller than Freki, his brown fur shining in the moonlight while Freki stood beside him with his white snow fur.

" Why are we here?" I send the words through the mind link.

" The view is beautiful and I wanted you to see it, " Conri responded.

" What’s on your mind Husband" I demanded.

" I am worried that we have been so engrossed in the pack matters and Lobo’s threats that we don’t have time for us’ ’ Conri pushed the words through.

" I know. Our families were in danger, how could we even have time for ourselves? " I said.

" I know. But we also have a life of our own. And the wheels are turning. Uncle Cadman informed us that the times have changed. I need to take over the pack and make sure Luna is safe. Everyone is depending on me and it weighs down on my shoulders"

" You have me " I stated firmly as the snow picked up and the mountain wind blew over us. I looked down from the high cliff, we stood down the mountain and Conri was right, the view was awesome.

" I have you," Conri stated. " I know I do "

" You have all our family and even more sore members of the pack. We have Hunter Hemming who is an Alpha that would be a perfect Beta of the pack. He has been through so much and I know that he will do everything in his power to protect Tala and our family. Benjamin, Everest and Levy, Keith and Addison, Anisha and Zeeb. What more could we ask for? Tizheruk and Haida, Alexander and Chary. We are truly blessed Conri and you don’t need permission from anyone to take over the pack "

" I am not seeking permission "Conri stated. " I just want us to be prepared for what is coming. Being a pack leader has a lot of weight on one’s shoulders"

" You have always had a lot on your shoulders, Conri. You have the power of the king of wolves, who can go against us" I stated.

As the wind picked up, Conri sent the words through " Time to go back. The wind is picking up and the snow level will rise soon"

We raced back to the Freki mansion and when we got there Benjamin was sitting by the pack patio having a beer.

" How did he get in ?" Lucian pushed the words through.

He stood up and we shifted back into our human form fully clothed.

"How do you do that ?" He pointed at me and Conri

" It’s a secret, " Conri chuckled. " What brings you here in the middle of the night Benjamin"

" Did you sneak out on your wife when she was asleep ?" Lucian teased him.

" I did, " Benjamin sipped his beer and gritted his teeth.

" What is wrong ?" Lucian leaned on the rail.

" When are you going to take over as the pack leader? " Benjamin demanded as he turned to Conri.

" Soon" Conri responded " Is there a problem?"

" I need Luna to be home safe and sound. " Benjamin gritted his teeth. " But the more she spends time in the pack, the more worried and pissed off I get. She has a new assistant, a young wolf that has been fawning over Luna. It’s pissing me off" Benjamin explained and we burst out laughing at his words.

" Come on. Luna is already pregnant with your pups" Conri pointed out.

" That is true. But is it right for her to smile and grin at him? " Benjamin growled.

" And even more so, now that Lovita Aria came to the pack office and announced he was coming back to Chugach. "

" What the fuck ?" Lucian cursed

" That is not even close to the shocking news. Lovita’s mum is Aurora Storm. Benjamin announced.

" Storm? The Golden shifter pack shifter wolf who is a witch ?" Conri asked.

" Yes," Benjamin nodded. " She was chased away by Lobo’s dad after she got pregnant. She left with her mum and raised Lovita away. She wants to come back to the pack and Lovita comes to announce it. And they will be here in a week."

" Shit" Lucian rubbed his face. " When do we get a break"

" Luna thinks that it’s not Lovita who is not the problem. She feels that Aurora must want something from the Golden Shifter pack. Benjamin explained " I tried to sleep with all these thoughts and it drove me crazy. I drove here because I need answers, help, and preparation to get Luna to leave the post and you take over"

" I agree," Lucian stated. "Don’t worry Conri is ready to take over. The day after tomorrow we shall come to the pack offices and take over."

" Great. I just want all of us to be at peace, " Benjamin whispered. " I know that I am a fool to come over and apply pressure but it’s the only way I know how"

" Don’t worry. You are family " Lucian spoke up to comfort him.

" Thank you. Sorry I found the back door open and I just walked right in and made myself at home" He chunked the rest of the liquid from the beer bottle.

" You could sleep over, " Conri teased him.

" Oh no. Luna would have my hide if I ever slept anywhere else. Have a goodnight." Benjamin chuckled as he placed the beer bottle on the table then walked down the patio and disappeared into the Freki woods.
