Chapter 129: JAPAN
TIZHERUK’S POV
"I suggest we travel separately, "Elder Zaya announced when we left the Freki mansion, and I knew she did not want Conri and Lucian to worry.
"You are afraid that Lobo will send someone to attack us?" I spoke up.
"I have this nagging feeling at the back of my mind that something bad is about to happen. We need to travel separately. You go alone and I will take the commercial flight to China. "
"Are you sure?" Haida asked Elder Zaya.
"Trust me, "She stated.
I dropped Elder Zaya and Haida at the airport and after bidding them farewell; I rushed to the private hangar and boarded the jet to Japan. I could feel how my beast was agitated, especially separating from Haida. I never knew I could feel this way, and it irked me that I was becoming attached to Haida.
Seven hours later, the captain announced that we were about to land and I received a text message from Hunter." Be careful. ". I switched off my phone took out the sim card and hid it in my wallet. I would leave no trace for anyone to follow me.
As soon as the plane landed in the Tokyo airport private hangar, I picked up my bag and got off the plane. I spotted the first men from the Japanese mafia at the exit of the hangar. I knew that they were either the Yakuza or BoryoKudan.
I walked to the entrance of the immigration office and in seconds was surrounded by the men.
"Sir, hand over your phone and bag, ’’ one of the men said.
"I am not willing," I responded.
"Sir, please don’t force us to use force" His voice was low and threatening.
"Why do you need my bag and phone? " I drawled.
"You are no longer in Alaska but in Japan. You have no right to ask questions. " The man snapped.
"Why not?" I was stalling, just waiting for the right time to run. Knowing well that they would not shoot me and they had orders to take me back alive.
" Sir. " He moved closer to take my bag. I took a step back and then all hell broke loose. Gunshots erupted at the exit and we all ducked down to hide. From the way the bullets rained, I guessed the shooter was just planning to distract them, hence I rushed towards the stairs, leaving the men cursing after me.
Dumping my phone in the bin, I kept moving until I saw a van rush towards the parking exit. I slowed my steps, and I waited for them to attack but much to my surprise, a man stepped out of the van. He was tall, with broad shoulders, his body told me was a military man, and I sensed he was a shifter as his wolf stirred with curiosity. " Hurry up, Elder Zaya sent us to pick you up"
"Let us go" I nodded and got into the van as we disappeared into the busy Tokyo traffic.
"Thank you. "I nodded at the man.
We arrived at an old residential place that was under heavy guard. The car was inspected, and we were let in. Taking the underground tunnels, we arrived at a basement office and the man ushered me into an office where I sat down in waiting.
"My name is Kyeiko. I work for Zaya Dolf. " He reported.
"So, she was expecting an attack?" I raised an eyebrow
"Someone leaked information that the jet would land and she asked me to prepare, just in case," Kyeiko reported.
"Who are they? "I asked.
"BoryoKudan. " He responded. "They are ruthless and power hungry. Unlike us the Yakuza, they would show no mercy but am surprised that they wanted you alive. "
"I realized that when they did not kill me on site. Was the shooter one of your men?" I asked.
"Yes, "Kyeiko nodded.
"How long? I need to travel to Tochigi," I responded.
"Tochigi? Why? "He raised his eyebrows.
"Business," I responded.
He nodded and said, "We shall have our men escort you, then. It seems that you will not stay here for long. Being on the move is advisable. Come on, I will show you to your room. You will stay the night and leave early morning. "
I picked up my bag and followed Kyeiko to the room and once he left; I removed the little device I had carried in the bag and swept the room for bugs. Once satisfied, I switched on the signal jammer and then went to the bathroom to take a shower. Once done, I removed the new phone and put in my SIM card.
Once the phone went on, the first call that came through was from Elder Zaya.
"Why is your phone off, Bering?" she scolded me.
"I met with uninvited guests at the airport. Thank God Kyeiko arrived on time. " I explained.
"Be careful. We are staying at the Beijing Heights Hotel. Keep a low profile and keep updating me every six hours," Elder Zaya commanded before she disconnected her call.
I lay on the bed to rest and when I came to it, Kyeiko was seated by the window and the table had food on it.
"What time is it?" I groggily asked.
"Close to three am, " He responded. "I brought you something to eat. " He pointed at the table.
I walked out of bed and sat at the table. " Why are you here? "
"I was waiting for you to wake up. So you are the Tizheruk" He asked, and I noticed the fear in his eyes. His demeanor had completely changed.
I smiled at him with my mouth full of food and chewed slowly before responding, " You seem scared of me. "
"I only heard tales of the sea serpent and to see you here, I am honored. " He bowed.
"Cut the crap," I muttered. "I need to get to Tochigo as soon as possible. And with no trace"
"It’s too dangerous," He muttered. "And the Yakuza’s men who guard the Tabular hall are not polite. They are brutal and unreasonable. "
"Someone has to do it," I responded.
He huffed and said, " I will take you with me. But we have to go up the mountain using the trails that are not passable by normal men"
"I sensed your wolf when I came in. He is Honshu, the ancient Japanese wolf. Tracking and senses are your forte. I am surprised you never sensed anything when you met me, "I laughed.
"I must confess you threw me off and only Elder Zaya’s words rendered me speechless," Kyeiko laughed.
"So I guess you are here because you need us to leave now?" I pushed the empty plate away picked up the bottle of water on the table and drank from it.
"Yes, and we shall use the underground water canals. " His eyes twinkled in excitement.
"Why are you excited?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I just want to see you shift. " He shrugged his shoulders.
"We better leave now" I stood up, walked to the closet, packed the clothes that I had removed, and then closed the bag. When I turned around, Kyeiko was already out of the room. I was surprised that a man of his size moved stealthily.
We left the old house by the back door and rode the motorcycle that Kyeiko took. We used the hills and the back mountain roads. We got to the train station and took the train to Tochigo. On arrival, we rented another motorcycle and arrived in the Naaru mountains. From there on we followed the trail up the mountains, laying a low profile, but after an hour, I realized we were being followed.
"You sensed them right, "Kyeiko huffed.
’ Yes. I would say around ten men" I continued to walk as I said it.
"What?" He muttered and then I felt his wolf expand its senses as he tried to see who was following us. After a minute, he cursed and stomped the ground.
"How is that going to help us?" I laughed at him.
"We are unarmed, "He complained.
"So what? They are human and we are shifters, " I chuckled.
"Are you finding this amusing?" Kyeiko demanded.
"Let us split up," I suggested.
"No way. Elder Zaya’s instructions were clear. You should never leave my side," Kyeiko stated.
"You better keep up," I said before taking off running, and Kyeiko followed behind. I listened to the footsteps that followed and from them counted over ten people behind us.
"We have more men chasing us, " I yelled at Kyeiko.
I watched him running faster and then he started shedding off the clothes and in seconds he shifted into a large gray wolf. I slowed my steps as Kyeiko approached. He bowed himself and climbed on top of him, and then we took off.
Running through the woods towards the mountain, we felt the bullets raining in on us. I opened my senses and felt the flow of the lake a few meters away.
" Go to the left. Let us get in the water," I yelled out loud, and Kyeito growled in response.
The minute we turned, the bullets started coming. I cursed out loud as Kyeiko evaded the bullets and then, in seconds, a grenade whizzed past us. I shifted midair, picking up Kyeiko and we fell off the mountains into the lake as the rocks from the mountain hit us and I felt myself blacking out as we hit the water.
