Lu Moqing sensed the coldness in her tone, and his heart sank. Afraid that he would upset Qiao Xu again, he unwillingly let go of her hand slowly.

His downcast eyes flashed with despondency as he watched Qiao Xu walk away. Feeling anxious, he called out to her, "Where are you going?"

He recalled the seemingly calm yet resolute look in her eyes when she wanted to leave last night, and his heart ached suddenly.

As he hesitated, Qiao Xu said, "I’m going to buy you some breakfast. The doctor said your stomach condition is severe. If you don’t receive proper treatment, you’ll die."

"I’m not hungry."

Still worried that she was making an excuse to leave, Lu Moqing spoke up.

"You have to eat even if you’re not hungry!"

Qiao Xu’s voice rose a few notches, exuding authority for no apparent reason. It even made Lu Moqing lose the courage to protest. All he did was move his dry lips, saying, "Alright, I’ll listen to you."

Qiao Xu opened the door and walked out, leaving Lu Moqing sitting on the bed with a disheartened expression.

In truth, he didn’t know if Qiao Xu really went to buy breakfast, or if it was merely an excuse to leave. He had no right or reason to stop her or ask her to stay.

He desired a chance to start over, but why should she be willing to give him that?

With these thoughts, he smiled bitterly, suppressing the sorrow welling up in his eyes, and leaned back on the bed without a word.

He waited for half an hour, but Qiao Xu didn’t return. The anticipation in Lu Moqing’s eyes gradually dimmed.

"What are you doing here?"

This project was under his direct supervision, so how could there be a problem?

"What’s the issue?"

"Our reserve price has been leaked."

"What happened?"
