Qiao Xu’s face instantly stiffened, and her consciousness became fully alert as memories of what happened during the night rushed into her mind.

She abruptly sat up from Lu Moqing’s embrace, reached out to feel his forehead, and breathed a sigh of relief when she found that his temperature had returned to normal.

As she was about to withdraw her hand, a large palm covered the back of her hand, pressing it against his forehead.

"Awake?"

The pleasant voice, tinged with the huskiness and sexiness of someone who had just awoken, made Qiao Xu’s heart tremble.

Lu Moqing opened his eyes, with sunlight casting upon his thick eyelashes and casting a beautiful shadow beneath his eyes.

Qiao Xu’s gaze inadvertently collided with his pitch-black pupils, causing a slight ripple in her otherwise calm heart.

She awkwardly averted her gaze, nonchalantly pulled her hand from Lu Moqing’s palm, and pretended to be calm: "Your fever is gone, we will go see the doctor later."

With that, she got out of bed and quickly went to the restroom, her escape-like retreat eliciting a faint laugh from Lu Moqing.

Qiao Xu stood in front of the mirror, splashed her face with cold water, and managed to suppress the agitation Lu Moqing caused her.

She couldn’t remember the last time she had felt like this, and her once steadfast belief of her heart being as still as water turned out not to exist.

She was just using a tough attitude to hide her true feelings for Lu Moqing deep within her heart.

Realizing this, Qiao Xu couldn’t help but furrow her brows, and even a sense of fear began to slowly spread from the depths of her heart.

After a long while in the bathroom, she finally completed her morning routine with her face returning to calm.

She looked over at the lazy-looking Lu Moqing on the bed and said, "I have some things to take care of later, you should call the driver to pick you up."

Noticing the subtle distant tone in Qiao Xu’s seemingly calm voice, Lu Moqing’s brows slightly furrowed.

He got out of bed, walked over to her, his tall figure blocking the sunlight in front of her, casting a shadow on her.

"Are you just leaving me like this?"

The deep voice contained a hint of faint dissatisfaction.

Qiao Xu frowned, lowered her gaze, and looked away. "I really have something urgent to do. You should have the driver take you to the hospital for a check-up later."

With that, she walked around Lu Moqing, put her laptop in her briefcase, and headed for the door.

"Qiao Xu!"

Lu Moqing coldly called out to her from behind.

Qiao Xu stopped, turned around, her face showing a cool indifference that irritated Lu Moqing.

"Are you avoiding me?"

He asked with a solemn expression.

Qiao Xu’s lips subconsciously pursed, then she replied, "You’re not a terrifying beast, why would I avoid you? I really have something urgent to deal with."

"What about after you’re done?"

His gaze became more aggressive.

"After I’m done, I’ll return to City C."

Qiao Xu avoided Lu Moqing’s gaze and calmly answered.

Her response completely triggered Lu Moqing’s anger. He took a step towards her, causing Qiao Xu to instinctively back away in defense, as he said:

"I’m indeed not a terrifying beast, but in your eyes, am I even more frightening than one?"
