Chapter 96: Chapter 96: The Beginning of the Scandal

Some things are harder than you imagine.

Some things are easier than you imagine.

But no matter how hard or easy it is, if you grasp the vital point of the matter, you can do it.

"The reason He Yong made this deal with the TV station is that the company’s revenue this year did not meet expectations. Wei Ruxue doesn’t want to renew her contract, she’s uncooperative with a lot of work, and only took on ’Spring Cold,’ which will be filmed until next year. At the beginning of the year, He Suqing and Ning Yao left, the company’s rising talent, hyped for years, still can’t break through. There’s a lack of successors among female artists. If it weren’t for you suddenly becoming a hit, the performance of the first half of the year could be described as dismal."

Zhou Lan told Zhou Yun about these matters in the background, wanting to give Zhou Yun an understanding and to keep her informed.

"At this time, He Yong does not dare to fall out with you. His position in the company is not unshakeable. Lu Yicheng is watching him like a hawk, and there are people at headquarters who are dissatisfied with him waiting for the chance to pick on his shortcomings. If Wei Ruxue really does not renew her contract, you are the best result he can present to headquarters and the shareholders. How could he dare to break with you?"

"Of course, at another time, if you were to directly confront him, that would be digging your own grave."

Zhou Yun smiled lightly and said, "No problem, my middle school political teacher taught us a principle, there are no permanent enemies, only permanent interests."

After finishing her work in Beijing, Zhou Yun did not return to Shanghai.

She first had to make a trip to Inner Mongolia, where a magazine had arranged a shoot for her.

It was also a collaborative project, involving not only the magazine but also the local tourism department.

By the time she returned to Shanghai, several days had passed.

As soon as she landed, Zhou Yun received a call from Yuk Chu.

"Xiao Yun, are you in Shanghai? I’m here for work today, do you have time for dinner tonight?"

"Sure." Zhou Yun said, "What a coincidence, I just got back to Shanghai, and I’m still at the airport."

Yuk Chu laughed and said, "That’s great."

Yuk Chu was the only female friend Zhou Yun had in the entertainment industry. They maintained contact after meeting on a film set.

In the evening, Yuk Chu came directly to Zhou Yun’s apartment.

As soon as she entered, Yuk Chu sniffed and her eyes lit up.

"What delicious braised pork!"

"You said last time you wanted to eat braised pork, so I made it especially for you." Zhou Yun replied with a smile.

Yuk Chu: "But how dare I eat braised pork so late at night! Zhou Yun, are you jealous of my beauty and deliberately want me to gain weight?"

Zhou Yun chuckled and said, "You don’t have to eat it."

Yuk Chu glared at Zhou Yun sideways, "Not eating it would be wasteful, and wasting is shameful!"

Zhou Yun laughed out loud.

Yuk Chu followed Zhou Yun into the kitchen, curiously watching her cook.

"You’re really cooking yourself? I thought by now you wouldn’t have the time or the leisure to cook."

"Originally, I didn’t, I’ve been really busy recently, always out and about. After coming back today, I finally got a day off, had a nap, felt full of energy, so I decided to invite you over and cook myself." Zhou Yun plated a dish of superb lotus root slices, "I was actually planning to find a restaurant."

"Let me do it." Yuk Chu took the initiative to take the plate and carry it out.

"Would you like some red wine?" Zhou Yun asked.

"Sure." Yuk Chu said, "But I can’t drink too much, I have to get up early tomorrow to catch a plane."

"Mhm, we’ll both drink less."

Taking off her apron, Zhou Yun found two wine glasses, poured red wine, and clinked glasses with Yuk Chu.

"It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other."

"That’s because you’ve been so busy." Yuk Chu smiled, "You’re really popular now, I saw you trending again on my way here."

"Ah?" Zhou Yun didn’t know what was happening, wondering if it might be due to being photographed eating with Song Chi a few days ago.

"A little girl exposed on the forums that you have a bad temper and are petty because you refused to give her an autograph when she said she wasn’t your fan." Yuk Chu explained, "Such a trivial matter, but because you are so popular, a lot of marketing accounts shared that post for traffic, and it suddenly caught fire. Now everyone is saying you’re a petty woman."

Zhou Yun was speechless.

"What should I say?"

Yuk Chu laughed out loud.

"Is this true or not?"

"True." Zhou Yun remembered that little girl, "How can such little things trend?"

Yuk Chu said, "It only proves one thing, you’re really hot right now."

Super annoyed, Zhou Yun grabbed her phone, turned on the selfie camera, and said, "Yuk Chu, let’s take a selfie."

Yuk Chu asked, "What are you doing?" as she posed for the camera.

Zhou Yun hummed and said, "I’m posting on Weibo."

A minute later, Zhou Yun updated her Weibo: The petty woman, in order to save money, cooked personally for a friend. That’s how petty I am.

Attached was a selfie of her and Yuk Chu, with the dishes on the table visible in the background.

Yuk Chu saw the Weibo post and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

"What are you up to?"

Zhou Yun put the phone down. "They say I’m petty right? Then I’ll be petty for them to see."

"You’re actually getting worked up over this?" Yuk Chu was astonished, as this was not like the Zhou Yun she knew.

Zhou Yun burst out laughing, "It’s fun."

The two didn’t talk about work or people in the industry.

They talked about good movies, argued over differing opinions, and laughed without worrying about their image.

Time flew by, and soon Yuk Chu received a call from her agent. She sighed and said to Zhou Yun, "I need to leave."

Zhou Yun nodded, stood up, and said, "I’ll walk you downstairs."

On the way out, Zhou Yun suddenly remembered something.

"Xiao Yuk."

"What’s up?"

"I’m going to be on a show later, and I might need to ask you to help out for a few episodes. Talk to your agent and see if it’s convenient."

Yuk Chu asked, "What show?"

"I’m not clear yet, but it’s something like a follow-documentary, aiming to record my daily life." Zhou Yun said, "You’re the only female friend I have in the entertainment industry."

"Okay, I’ll talk to my agent." Yuk Chu nodded.

Zhou Yun saw Yuk Chu off, watching her meet up with her agent before heading back up.

As she entered, she heard her phone ringing.

"Sister Lan, calling me this late, what’s up?" Zhou Yun asked.

"Are you crazy?" Zhou Lan blurted out five words.

Zhou Yun asked, "Why are you suddenly cursing at me?"

"That Weibo post you made, and you ask why I’m scolding you?" Zhou Lan said, "You just had to retort, huh? Do you know how many marketing accounts are mocking you, saying you can’t take a joke?"

"They mock them, I’ll be petty mine."

"Big sister, you’re a female celebrity, not a willful young miss."

"Not every young miss can have everything her way, can she?"

"Is that the point?"

"I’m not going to talk about this now, I’m going to sleep." Zhou Yun yawned, "I had some wine tonight and I’m sleepy."
