Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Tonight You Will Die

Ghostly apparitions could be seen everywhere in the villa. Before, she could only vaguely sense their existence, but now she could see them clearly.

Most of the apparitions wore blank expressions, drifting alone; a few, however, had vivid expressions and looked at Jiang Wenhu and his family with eyes full of hatred.

The closer to the interior of the villa the apparitions were, the calmer their expressions became; the ones outside, on the other hand, had increasingly frenzied expressions.

The clothes on these apparitions were from over twenty years ago, styles only worn by the generation of Jiao Xinlei’s parents.

Most of the apparitions were disfigured, some to the point where their human form was indiscernible, merely a blur of flesh and blood, resembling a large-scale car accident scene.

They must be the culprits behind the strangeness of this villa.

But oddly, none of these apparitions were looking at her. Occasionally one would glance at her, nod slightly, and then pass her by!

It was as if Jiao Xinlei was one of their own kind!

"Could it be that I’m already dead and have become a ghost?"

Jiao Xinlei’s expression was one of sorrow; she was just in her early twenties, in the prime of her life, how could she have died here?

She tapped her own face with the bamboo sword, making a clear slapping sound.

"Ouch! That hurts, I’m still human, haven’t turned into a ghost; what’s going on here."

She bypassed the apparitions one by one and returned to the living room to find the human-headed dog still lying amidst everyone, emitting a bright yellow glow that kept the ghostly shadows from approaching.

Seeing Jiao Xinlei return, the human-headed dog raised its head and gave her a human-like look of surprise.

The family of four looked at Jiao Xinlei strangely; they thought she would come back wetting herself with fright, but instead, Jiao Xinlei’s expression was unexpectedly calm.

Actually, Jiao Xinlei was confused herself; she was no longer afraid of the ghostly shadows, and the fright from her previous terrifying encounters had also faded.

It was as if her courage had suddenly increased.

And besides those ghostly shadows, there was something else different in the world she saw with her eyes.

Above the heads of the four members of the Jiang family floated a clump of mixed colors. Mother Jiang was mostly yellow, Jiang Wenyue mostly blue, and Jiang Wenhu mostly red, but the color blocks above the heads of all three were quite dim.

This indicated that their condition was not good.

Only one person had a different color block above their head; that was Father Jiang, Jiang Yusheng.

The color block above his head was black as ink!

Jiao Xinlei unconsciously approached Jiang Yusheng, sized him up, and then said without any emotion:

"You are going to die tonight!"

After saying that, Jiao Xinlei covered her mouth in shock, not knowing why she said that.

But now she had a strong intuition that Jiang Yusheng would definitely not survive this night, definitely not!

Jiang Yusheng’s face turned ashen, but he said not a word.

Jiang Wenhu came over, grabbed her shoulder, and asked with a frown, "Xinlei, what are you talking about? He’s my father."

"I don’t know, I don’t know..."

Jiao Xinlei clasped her head; she too was confused, unsure of what was happening, as everything seemed to have changed.

...

On the second floor, at the door to the bedroom assigned to Wen Wen and Jiao Xinlei, Wen Wen’s figure quietly appeared, but his body was translucent.

This was the ghostly physique!

So, Wen Wen was not wearing any underpants.

Since his underpants would fall off every time he transformed, Wen Wen decided to forego underwear altogether if it became necessary to turn into a ghost.

All his equipment was packed in a suitcase, and then he materialized the Catastrophe Gloves and carried the case.

Ghosts, although not powerful, were tricky to deal with, but now, with his new ability, Wen Wen didn’t need to have a ghostly physique to handle them.

He had assumed this form to interact with the ghosts inside the villa and understand what was going on.

He had turned into a ghost ten minutes before leaving, so that if any danger arose and the ghostly state wasn’t sufficient for self-protection, he could switch to another state in time.

Before he went back to the Sanctuary, Wen Wen knew that the biggest threat in this villa was not the dog but the numerous ghosts.

Although odd and seemingly hiding something, it was under the dog’s protection that the household had survived unharmed.

So, the dog likely had no ill intent; Wen Wen’s main targets were not the dog but the nearly a hundred ghosts in this house!

Yes, nearly a hundred; while none were particularly strong, their sheer number was quite horrifying!

In his ghostly form, Wen Wen could easily see all the ghosts in the villa and clearly discern their current state.

"Hmm, just as I thought—in my normal state I can’t detect them, but in my ghostly state, I can see them very clearly."

Within Wen Wen’s view, the villa was shrouded in a yellow glow that greatly suppressed the power of the ghosts.

It also reduced their aggression to a minimum, which explained why the Jiang family members remained safe and Jiang Wenyue nearly faced a life-threatening danger once she left the villa.

It was because she stepped outside the protective range of the light emanating from the human-headed dog.

Wen Wen himself was also greatly affected, but he didn’t mind because he didn’t plan to rely on his ghostly state to fight; for offense, he had the Catastrophe Gloves.

He looked around and spotted a ghost squatting in a corner with its back to him, appearing rather introverted and probably easy to talk to.

"Hello, Mr. Ghost, my name is Wen Wen. I am a... um, Spiritual Detective, yes, a Spiritual Detective. I would like to know why so many of you ghosts are gathering here. Unauthorized assembly carries legal responsibilities, you know."

Wen Wen placed his hand on the chubby ghost’s shoulder and blathered on.

The chubby ghost turned around, ready to answer Wen Wen’s query but before it could speak, Wen Wen said, "Sorry, wrong human, I was looking for someone else."

The ghost’s face had dozens of pores resembling needle holes, with white fat stripes overflowing from those pores, shaping into strips that swung about on the face...

Judging a ghost by its appearance is certainly wrong, but this brother was truly disgusting.

"Don’t go! You think I’m disgusting, don’t you! Don’t you!"

The chubby ghost suddenly became agitated after seeing Wen Wen’s expression, leaped up from its spot, and lunged toward Wen Wen.

Wen Wen’s eyes widened as he floated backward, his face filled with horror, finding the situation even more frightening than when he faced the onslaught of the Demon Leopard Puppet from Xu Hai.

"Don’t come any closer! If you do, I won’t be polite anymore!" Wen Wen’s voice had altered slightly.

This was the first time he felt so vulnerable. If the chubby ghost touched him, it would become a permanent shadow in his memory, just like when he made the video for Zhu Qipei.
