Chapter 918: Hope and Relief

Chapter 918: Chapter 918: Hope and Relief

"I’ve been here, waiting for you for seven days," the Moon Goddess said in a calm tone, her voice like an orchid in a secluded valley.

"Uh... I must be hallucinating."

Wen Wen took a step back, closed the bathroom door, and then opened it again.

The Moon Goddess was still standing there, looking at him with eyes as clear as a spring.

Awkward, very awkward, extremely awkward.

To be honest, he had a special feeling for the Moon Goddess.

However, he also knew that this feeling had nothing to do with him; it was entirely an instinctive reaction from the powers he had inherited, so when it came to matters related to the Moon Goddess, he always kept a respectful distance.

But having her wait at the bathroom door for seven days, that feeling... was truly indescribable.

"Staying in such a small bathroom for so long, is it because your kidneys aren’t good, uncle?" Iyeta, whose skin was slightly darker, was hiding behind the Moon Goddess, mocking Wen Wen mercilessly.

Wen Wen’s mouth twitched: "What does a superpower user’s business have to do with kidneys?"

Then Wen Wen ignored Iyeta and respectfully said to the Moon Goddess, "May I ask if you have any urgent matters this time? As long as it’s within my power, I will not refuse."

The Moon Goddess herself was a Catastrophe Level boss from the Inner World. Seeing her relationship with the Man in Black Robe, one might think she was a deity even stronger than the Cicada Ancestor. Besides, the last time the Moon Goddess helped Wen Wen, so for better or worse, Wen Wen had to be courteous to her.

Of course, "I will not refuse" was just a polite phrase.

If the Moon Goddess asked him to do some extremely dangerous task, Wen Wen would definitely take his time doing it.

The Moon Goddess looked into Wen Wen’s eyes and asked, "Where is he?"

"Uh, well, he’s already dead."

Wen Wen certainly knew whom the Moon Goddess was asking about, but the Man in Black Robe had told him to say he was already dead to the Moon Goddess.

"You’re lying. That day, I saw him," the Moon Goddess exposed Wen Wen’s lie.

Wen Wen coughed lightly twice, not knowing what to say.

He wasn’t very clear about the situation. From the current information, perhaps the Man in Black Robe had heartlessly left behind the infatuated Moon Goddess in the Inner World, and then she came across worlds to find him.

So to Wen Wen, it seemed like they were shoving dog food down his throat.

If it weren’t for the fact that both of these big figures were beyond his abilities to offend, he wouldn’t want to be stuck in the middle as the third wheel.

At this moment, Wen Wen felt some regret about why he had insisted on being unique by choosing to be a detective specializing in murder cases.

Why not follow his peers’ example and deal with things like catching cheating spouses or petty thefts sometimes?

At least that way, he would have some experience dealing with such domestic affairs.

How was he, a steel-hearted bachelor, supposed to navigate the twists and turns between this infatuated man and woman?

Just then, a sigh was heard, and a black figure appeared behind Wen Wen, only the Moon Goddess could see the man standing behind Wen Wen.

"You finally agreed to see me, I... but who are you?"

The Man in Black Robe took off his hood, revealing a face somewhat similar to Wen Wen’s, though with larger eyes and a black round mark on his forehead.

The mark resembled a black hole devouring everything, or perhaps a blazing black sun.

"I shouldn’t see you, but since you’ve found your way here, I can’t keep hiding..."

In fact, the Man in Black Robe had wanted to talk to her as soon as he sensed the Moon Goddess’s avatar entering this world, but for her safety, he had been holding back.

"But I won’t tell you my name, nor should you try to recall it; this is for the best for both you and me."

The Moon Goddess paused, wanting to reach out and touch the Man in Black Robe’s face, but withdrew her hand halfway.

"Then... can I talk to you?"

Her voice was a mixture of anxiety and anticipation, an emotion she had never felt before.

The Man in Black Robe was silent for two seconds: "Alright, let’s talk..."

After he agreed, the Moon Goddess told Wen Wen and Iyeta, "You two leave first, we have things to discuss."

Before Wen Wen and Iyeta could react, they found themselves in the corridor, and the room they had been in was locked by some kind of power, preventing them from sensing what was happening inside.

Iyeta was also listening but couldn’t see who was talking to the Moon Goddess.

"Hey, uncle, who exactly is ’he’?" Iyeta poked Wen Wen’s arm.

Wen Wen rolled his eyes: "You ask me, who should I ask? I want to know even more than you do, and don’t call me uncle; you’re old enough to be my grandmother!"

"Don’t be so stingy, share a bit with me, and I’ll trade you information about Her Highness the Moon Goddess; she wears..." Iyeta patted Wen Wen’s shoulder, looking exactly like a female driver.

Wen Wen disdainfully pushed Iyeta’s hand away: "You coal-digging, sharp-tongued woman, don’t get too familiar with me."

Iyeta snorted: "Do you think I want to get familiar with you? People would think I’m crazy if they saw me chatting with a pig."

Wen Wen took out a rocking chair, sat down, and as he rocked, asked nonchalantly: "With a mouth as vicious as yours, your ex-boyfriend must have had uremia, right?"

"You, you... Ahhhh, it infuriates me, I shall curse you to death today!"

Iyeta’s expression turned ferocious, she started berating Wen Wen, her insults flying without a single dirty word and without repeating a single term.

But Wen Wen was not to be outdone; his verbal jabs flew fast and furious, words both unsightly and incessant.

The more they talked, the angrier they became, almost coming to the level of street brawlers, clawing at each other’s faces.

If it weren’t for the existence of the Moon Goddess, Wen Wen and Iyeta would’ve been at each other’s throats, so their conflict erupted directly without needing provocation.

However, since discussions were ongoing next door, they couldn’t really start fighting, so after ten minutes or so, they were both tired of insulting each other.

Wen Wen took out a basin of bad-flavored carrots and poured two large mugs of beer from the Hundred Flavors Cup. He and Iyeta started chatting, striking up a rapport through mutual insults.

The conversation between the Moon Goddess and the Man in Black Robe next door was also drawing to a close.

"Can I still come to see you?" The Moon Goddess asked expectantly, looking at the Man in Black Robe.

The Man in Black Robe sighed: "Until he can stand on his own, I can come out like today; you can come to find me... but not too frequently."

The Moon Goddess asked with a hint of jealousy, "That human who looks somewhat like you, is he your descendant?"

"I have no blood relatives..." the Man in Black Robe quickly explained.

"Then is he your successor?"

The Moon Goddess pressed on, deducing the state of the Man in Black Robe from Wen Wen’s condition.

The Man in Black Robe shook his head: "What he is, it’s a bit complicated to explain. He is and he isn’t me, he can be considered my successor, but there’s a great difference..."

"If you must say, fate arranged for him to appear before me, he is my only hope, and possibly the only liberation."

"Liberation..."

The Moon Goddess was momentarily stunned, wanting to ask more, but was stopped by the Man in Black Robe.

"Time’s about up, you should go too..."
