Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 901: An Unexpected Surprise
Chapter 901: Chapter 901: An Unexpected Surprise
Following the smell of burning, the Demon Hunters arrived at the basement and saw seven or eight pale figures lying in disarray.
Before they could check if these figures were dead or alive, they had already started to wriggle...
"Something’s not right, prepare for battle!" shouted the only Higher Order Demon Hunter.
All the Demon Hunters immediately showed their battle stance, ready to blast these figures to bits at the Hunter’s command.
"Uh... what are you guys doing?"
A voice sounded behind them, causing goosebumps to rise all over because they had no idea how the voice had appeared.
Gu Panxi found the voice somewhat familiar, and upon turning her head, saw Wen Wen’s familiar and annoying little-eyed face.
"Wait everyone, this is the Ranger Mystic Detective, one of our own."
Gu Panxi spoke through gritted teeth; the last time she met Wen Wen, he hit her on the butt with a stick, so she remembered him quite well.
Wen Wen shrugged and said, "I’ve pretty much solved the situation; those seventy-plus people are some survivors. Send someone to check if there are any hidden dangers."
"Furthermore, although I’ve cleared the biggest threat in the tomb, no one can guarantee there aren’t other things inside. For now, do not open the tomb or the leakage of the tomb Qi alone would be enough to turn Lingyuan County into a ghost town."
"The rest is up to you guys, I need to go sleep first..."
Watching Wen Wen’s figure gradually fade into the distance, Fearful Butterfly sighed, "When I first met him, our strength was similar, but now I can no longer fathom his depth."
The only Senior Hunter shook his head and said, "It’s not just you; even I find him unfathomable. This Mystic Detective is one of the fastest-rising Demon Hunters in the Capital District in recent years. There’s even a rumor that he’s reached the True Sequence!"
The topic ignited a heated discussion, with Wen Wen’s various heroic deeds widely spread among the Demon Hunters in the Capital District.
Wen Wen is the most carefree of all Higher Order Demon Hunters in the Capital District, not bound by the Hunter Association, going wherever he pleases, and always getting involved in major events.
He is shrouded in a mysterious aura, exceedingly young, and with immense potential, naturally making him a hot topic.
Gu Panxi sighed; she too shared Fearful Butterfly’s sentiment.
When she first met Wen Wen, she was a powerful Ranger, while Wen Wen was just a newcomer to the Superpower world, a little rookie.
But now, the other has become a superpower user far surpassing her, while her own progress has been rather slow.
"I need to work harder, or else I’ll never have the chance to fight back in this lifetime!"
...
How the Demon Hunters dealt with those rescued and Muyuan Community’s residents is another story.
After releasing Fohai, Wen Wen followed Tao Qingqing to Baojian Hotel, where he lay in bed and had a comfortable sleep.
While in the Dim Domain, he remained on high alert with little opportunity to rest properly.
Right after returning here, he was passively caught up in the storm between Capital Feng Ghost God and Luo Feng, so now in his free time, he immediately began to rest.
After sleeping for an entire day, Wen Wen was awakened by a noisy commotion, looked out the window, and saw Wang Dayi with shackles on his hands and feet being taken away by a Demon Hunter.
Despite Wang Dayi’s conscientious protection of Lingyuan County Town over the years, his concealment of the Northern Yin Emperor’s Tomb ultimately led to at least hundreds of deaths.
The Hunter Association may not execute him, but he clearly won’t have the chance to hold a Demon Hunter’s position again.
Regarding Wang Dayi’s fate, Wen Wen felt neither pity nor hatred; since he made his choice, he now had to bear the consequences of those choices.
As the current highest authority of the Sanctuary, some of Wen Wen’s decisions may have also caused unnecessary sacrifices.
If the troubles caused by those sacrifices eventually come, Wen Wen would actively respond, resolve the troubles, rather than evade them.
He was about to call Tao Qingqing over for a back massage when he noticed she was sleeping sweetly next door; she had endured far more mental stress than Wen Wen while trapped in the Land of Slumber, and now was the time she needed rest.
Therefore, Wen Wen didn’t forcefully wake her but instead inventoried the gains from the Land of Slumber. Though it was an unexpected involvement this time, the gains were no less than those within the Dim Domain.
Two True Order Ghosts, namely Luo Feng and Landas Ghost Shadow.
Four Higher Level Ghosts, the Chou Hotang trio, and Ghost Dragon.
Five Catastrophic Ghosts, of which four were captured by Tao Qingqing, the other one was Oudenite caught by Wen Wen himself.
Additionally, there was a giant bronze ancient coffin and various pieces of furniture.
Wen Wen tested each ghost’s abilities; Luo Feng had not yet recovered, so nothing conclusive could be seen, but Landas Ghost Shadow did present him with some surprises.
Using Landas Ghost Shadow’s ability, Wen Wen could cut a part of his body to create a clone. However, the size of the cut part determined the clone’s size and would also lower Wen Wen’s own strength.
Additionally, the ability to manipulate patchy shadows to make enemies experience the fear of the deceased in their final moments was somewhat useful to Wen Wen.
Overall, however, Landas Ghost Shadow’s ability was not suited for Wen Wen’s personal use but was better as a quality worker.
Ghost Dragon possessed the abilities to grow larger or smaller and to spit a blue-green high-temperature flame; it could also, to an extent, "summon wind and rain," though the wind was a ghostly wind and the rain was poisonous. It made for a very suitable mount.
Among the Chou Hotang trio, Wen Wen wasn’t impressed by the abilities of Hot-head Ghost.
The drunk ghost’s vat could continuously produce fine wine, but he stayed soaked in the vat himself, never bathing even once in eight hundred years. Wen Wen didn’t have the stomach to drink that wine, nor did he have the conscience to offer it to others.
However, the Smoking Ghost was a delightful surprise to Wen Wen. Its ability’s strength was tied to the technique of blowing smoke rings - the more vivid the rings, the stronger their power.
Wen Wen couldn’t blow smoke rings himself, but he had a phantom-colored cigarette holder!
With the phantom-colored cigarette holder, Wen Wen only needed a gentle blow to produce smoke rings several times more realistic than those of the Smoking Ghost, and they were colored!
Wen Wen used the phantom-colored cigarette holder to blow out a curly-haired orangutan, which, though not as powerful as a True Order Psychic, was stronger than typical Upper Sequence Monsters!
As for the other old ghosts, they weren’t of much use but discarding them felt wasteful, making them rather useless.
Lastly, Wen Wen took out Three Cubs from his pocket. Previously, Three Cubs had absorbed a large amount of tomb Qi, causing its condition to become somewhat strange, and Wen Wen had to keep it bound with chains to ensure it didn’t cause any trouble.
However, Wen Wen could sense that it was rapidly digesting the tomb Qi within its body, and once fully digested, its strength would advance further, and any underlying issues would disappear.
But before that, there was a critical issue that urgently needed Wen Wen to resolve.
Which was, without Three Cubs, who would be his pilot?
