Chapter 899: Chapter 899 Slanda Ghost Shadow

After Wen Wen severed the connection, the White Hat Black Giant’s control over other parts of its body was no longer as strong as before. Now, the other parts have already surrendered, and it had no meaning to persist.

But just as its knees bent, an invisible force descended from the sky, landing on the White Hat Black Giant. The muscles on its faceless visage squirmed and revealed an expression of extreme fear.

No matter how terrified it was, its body still collapsed into ashes under that force.

The force sought to spread to the other Black Giants, but as Wen Wen had already severed the connection between the Black Giants, the force retreated back into the void after searching to no avail.

"This is... the Power of the Contract! This Slanda Ghost Shadow actually signed such a strong contract?" Wen Wen circled the pile of ashes, clicking his tongue in wonder.

Now he understood why the White Hat Black Giant insisted on attacking him even after he demonstrated his strength.

Contracts are not unusual; as long as one knows the method to create them, even superpower users under Assimilation can produce them.

However, ordinary contracts are not strong enough to restrain someone of the White Hat Black Giant’s realm; they could completely ignore such contracts.

A somewhat stronger contract, commonly seen in large organizations, uses a significant deterrent. Monsters above Disaster Level that breach the contract are severely punished.

But for a True Order Rank monster to not even be able to resist and just turn into ashes... this isn’t something an ordinary contract can achieve.

Only the Sanctuary’s contract and the Hunters Association’s contract can reach this level.

However, both of these contracts are not too strict; direct death would only occur if the most unforgivable breaches on the contract were committed.

The contract signed by the Black Giant should belong to this level.

But the Capital Feng Ghost God isn’t so benevolent; any act of betrayal leads to inevitable death.

This was the first time Wen Wen saw the Power of the Contract truly manifesting its might—a part of a True Order Rank monster perished so casually.

No wonder the Sanctuary’s contract and the Hunters Association’s contract are set so loosely; this kind of power is indeed terrifying.

Now Wen Wen was no longer the beginner of the Superpower World; after opening the Catastrophe Zone, he frequently chatted with several Central Administrators and learned some information beyond ordinary superpower users’ knowledge.

One crucial point is that all Supernatural Power has origins.

All supernatural powers and bizarre occurrences in the real world stem from forces leaking over from the Inner World.

All the supernatural powers in the Inner World originate from eight Supreme Overlords!

The Holy Light of Glory, the ability to create all things, comes from the Glory Church faith’s Creator and Architect!

Flesh sacrifices, filthy and evil powers come from the Profane Blood faith’s Supreme Overlord, the Ancestor of Evil Demons!

The breeding, fusion, and mutation of beings, all manner of twisted desires originate from the Mother of All Beings, the Great Mother...

Water, fire, wind, thunder, all natural forces’ sources...

These great existences of the Inner World symbolize certain supernatural power’s source; the eight Supreme Overlords together form the framework of supernatural power in the Inner World.

Every Supernatural Power, tracing back to its origins, is related to a Supreme Overlord.

But as far as Wen Wen knows, there seems to be no relation between any Supreme Overlord’s power and the Power of the Contract.

Moreover, compared to other supernatural powers, the Power of the Contract is truly extraordinary.

Even the most ordinary contract, if breached, punishment will definitely be inflicted, no matter how strong the violator’s strength, their location, or what means they use, there’s no escape.

Wen Wen has experienced this: even monsters that signed a contract will still be punished by the Power of the Contract if they violate it within the Sanctuary.

However, due to material and technical constraints, most contracts don’t cause high damage, so their restraining power varies. Only top-level contracts can bind someone of Wen Wen’s level.

Wen Wen was curious; if the Power of the Contract doesn’t correspond to an Inner World’s Supreme Overlord, what kind of powerful existence could it be?

Shaking his head, Wen Wen stopped thinking about the Power of the Contract; he looked at the remaining Black Giants.

After the White Hat Black Giant was destroyed, the other Black Giants’ power weakened somewhat.

However, among the remaining Black Giants, one had the beginnings of a white hat on its head.

This indicated it inherited the original White Hat Black Giant’s status and wisdom, granting it the ability to speak.

So Wen Wen left the new White Hat Black Giant, collecting all the other Black Giants.

The connection severed by his Sword of Intent would restore in some time, allowing him to acquire another complete Black Giant, albeit with reduced power due to the absence of the original.

Through inquiry with the remaining White Hat Black Giant, Wen Wen gained further understanding of these Black Giants.

All Black Giants can be considered as a single entity; their name is Slanda Ghost Shadow.

Slanda Ghost Shadow was a popular horror urban legend in the U.S.-Canada District eight or nine decades ago.

It began with someone inserting the image of a faceless man in a suit into a family photo, accompanied by a scary short story.

Then it triggered a wave of similar stories, gradually it was treated as true, becoming part of the popular culture in the U.S.-Canada District.

Stories circulated about Slanda Ghost Shadow, like how it kidnaps children or disrupts electromagnetic fields upon appearance.

As more people believed in Slanda Ghost Shadow, it actually ’existed’!

Those overly knowledgeable about Slanda Ghost Shadow had their minds infected with a ’virus,’ falling into Slanda Ghost Shadow’s illusion and dying from their own fears.

As the deaths accumulated, Slanda Ghost Shadow obtained a physical presence, hunting everyone curious about it in the U.S.-Canada District.

Because everyone’s perception of Slanda Ghost Shadow differed, it could possess ’countless’ bodies.

These bodies could act individually or combine, but only one Slanda Ghost Shadow bears complete wisdom—the rest act on instincts.

The mottled shadows are all those killed by Slanda Ghost Shadow; these people’s fears make up Slanda Ghost Shadow’s power.

It could wield this ’fear’ against foes or subject foes to these fears.
