Chapter 854: Future Silhouette
Chapter 854: Chapter 854: Future Silhouette
Wu Liugen’s suspicion that Wang Duobao is an undercover agent is not entirely without basis.
Looking at Wang Duobao’s demeanor, he seemed to know what would happen in the circle, and even stopped him from resolving hidden threats. With Little Ming Wang’s example as a precedent, Wu Liugen doesn’t naively believe that there are no undercover agents in the team.
Wu Liugen’s grip tightened, and with the other hand, he brandished a knife towards Wang Duobao’s lower waist: "If you won’t talk, I’ll first help you remove the root of evil, then send you to the west..."
Slap, slap...
Wang Duobao frantically patted Wu Liugen’s hand, indicating there were several black characters on the back of his hand.
After seeing those black characters, Wu Liugen’s pupils dilated, because those characters read —
You clamped my neck, I can’t speak!
And Wu Liugen remembered clearly that as he was about to destroy Wen Wen’s body, Wang Duobao was writing on his hand.
Wu Liugen released his hand and asked, his expression peculiar: "Why could you enter that circle in time, why did you know beforehand I was going to choke you, and how did you know I was going to kill Wen Wen?"
Wang Duobao rubbed his neck and replied: "I entered the circle because I saw that people outside would disappear. Similarly, I saw myself being choked speechless by you, so I wrote the characters in advance. I stopped you from killing Mr. Wen for the same reason."
Wu Liugen’s expression changed slightly: "Predict the future?"
Wang Duobao shook his head: "It’s not that powerful an ability, and the future is never set in stone. Besides, if I truly had such an ability, I wouldn’t have survived until now..."
"What I can see is merely a silhouette of a possible future, which is why I know Mr. Wen is the key to defeating Wen Li. If you kill him, we’ll truly be doomed."
Actually, Wang Duobao lied here. It’s true that Wen Wen is the key to defeating Wen Li, but he didn’t see Wu Liugen killing Wen Wen; he saw Wu Liugen bursting into sudden death due to this act...
If someone else told Wu Liugen such nonsense, he would’ve removed the other person’s root of evil first.
But having witnessed the other person writing characters on his hand, he couldn’t help but consider Wang Duobao’s words as real.
"Just those won’t prove you can see future silhouettes." Perhaps Wang Duobao’s ability was merely transforming handwriting on his hands?
Wang Duobao gave a bitter laugh, then leaned close to Wu Liugen’s ear, whispering a sentence, making Wu Liugen glance at Timir; now he believed in Wang Duobao’s ability.
"Interesting, a very rare ability. I grant you the right to temporarily stay alive. I will take you back to the Death Omen Star." Wen Li, nearly a skeleton now, watched Wang Duobao and cackled weirdly.
Only an ability rare enough can be worthy of becoming his, Wen Li’s subordinate, or else his right-hand men wouldn’t always be Xue Jiuyi and Yan Can.
Wang Duobao scoffed, then hid behind Wu Liugen, poking his head out as he said:
"You won’t have a chance to take me. From entering here until now, I’ve activated my ability more than ten times. Apart from the scenario where Mr. Wu kills Mr. Wen, you’ve lost every time!"
Wen Li grew somewhat angry; a black chain flew directly out, aiming to pierce Wang Duobao. He merely valued Wang Duobao’s ability; a dead body could scarcely be used.
Now, he already held an advantage in the confrontation with Wen Wen, allowing him to divert attention for an attack.
However, since Wang Duobao hid behind Wu Liugen beforehand, this strike was ineffective.
Wang Duobao looked with lingering fear at Wen Wen; had he not hidden behind Wu Liugen earlier, he’d have been pierced by Wen Li right through the chest.
His ability was called ’Future Silhouette,’ and it had two forms: active and passive.
Activating the ability intentionally each time consumed vast amounts of energy, but could be triggered on specific targets, allowing him to see a silhouette of the future at a random time point within the next two days.
Because of overly frequent activations, his body had weakened to the point where Wu Liugen choking him rendered him speechless.
The passive ability, however, only automatically triggered when an imminent event might involve Wang Duobao.
Passive activation required no energy but weakened Wang Duobao’s mind; too frequent appearances even led to a form of mental contamination.
Each silhouette displayed only a five-second snapshot; he had to personally analyze what truly occurred.
It’s worth noting that every silhouette Wang Duobao saw wasn’t necessarily destined to happen. He could interfere freely, and even if he didn’t, it might not occur for sure — it was merely a higher probability.
Because his ability wasn’t seeing an actual future but a possibility within it, this possibility was unstable; an energy-strong individual’s sudden idea might altogether prevent the silhouette’s event.
Compared to Wu Liugen’s prediction of the future, Wang Duobao’s ability seemed somewhat weaker, and various severe restrictions ensured he couldn’t become the mastermind controlling all from the shadows.
But precisely because of its weakness, it spared him from encountering a Tings Hound, leading him to lose all time.
Besides, an ability related to time, however weak, can still exert immense influence!
As long as Wang Duobao didn’t foolishly court disaster or face an unavoidable mortal peril, he would surely be the last surviving superpower user.
After convincing Wu Liugen, Wang Duobao discreetly glanced at Chu Wei and the two average Demon Hunters.
The silhouette he saw didn’t necessarily mean Wen Li would fail, but it certainly indicated a high probability of Wen Li’s failure.
But this was not due to Wen Li’s lack of preparation; it was purely a matter of bad luck.
In the circle drawn by Wen Li, among the six individuals brought in, including himself, Wang Duobao, none was ordinary...
Having slipped past Wang Duobao, Wen Li didn’t waste time chasing further but focused on suppressing Wen Wen’s remaining consciousness. Meanwhile, he commanded Timir: "Kill those five people, capture the one who sees the future alive if possible; if not, leave a whole corpse."
Timir originally didn’t want to act, but with Wen Li issuing the command directly, he could not refuse.
In Wen Li’s view, Timir wiping out the opponent’s five people alone would be effortless.
Chu Wei’s aura, when not showing his Immortal Body, seemed weaker than ordinary low-tier superhumans.
Though Wang Duobao could see future silhouettes, his strength was truly lacking.
Wu Liugen possessed True Sequence prowess, but with the space’s ebb and flow, he was a realm apart from Timir, akin to Upper Sequence compared to True Sequence.
As for the average Demon Hunters...
Wen Li considered them two minor roles, and even if Timir were incompetent, he could crush those insects.
Wu Liugen blinked and then casually approached Timir holding a knife.
He never considered the idea that he might lose to Timir, because he knew better than anyone how Timir was born into this world.
Yet what Wu Liugen truly was, Timir did not know!
