Chapter 84: Chapter 84 Time is Up

Wen Wen exhaled and clutched his arm as he stood off against the Demon Leopard. After firing the gun, his entire arm was sore and achy. Without the vampiric strength, the firearm’s recoil was really hard to bear.

"It seems I can’t shoot as carelessly as before. I need to standardize my movements, or my arm might not be able to take it..."

"But... with the agility of this leopard, at the speed I’m shooting, I can’t possibly hit it..."

Xu Hai stood in the shadows, watching Wen Wen run around in a panic through the eyes of his Demon Leopard Puppet, a cold smile playing on his lips.

"Did you really think that after knowing the power of your gun, I would easily let my puppet be hit by your attacks? No matter how powerful, if you don’t hit the target, it’s meaningless!"

"That’s a nice gun, it’ll be mine eventually. Your body is quite impressive too; it will also be mine."

...

Dodging another pounce from the Demon Leopard, Wen Wen gasped for breath. A gash had opened on his forehead, and the blood trickling down was somewhat obstructing his vision.

He held the Blazing Tiger in his right hand, and his entire arm turned pitch black as the Catastrophe Gloves appeared once more.

"This way, I don’t have to worry about the recoil. I’m so clever... And the best choice for this situation is ’Pack of Wolves’!"

Wen Wen took the Pack of Wolves in his left hand and the Blazing Tiger in his right, ready to do battle with the Demon Leopard.

Just preparing both guns had almost resulted in him being caught by the leopard.

"Let me enjoy this a bit longer!"

Wen Wen had to stall for ten minutes. Once the time was up, he could choose the physical traits of one type of monster, making the fight against this creature much simpler.

Despite the imminent danger, the situation was still under Wen Wen’s control. He could always duck into the Catastrophe Containment Facility to avoid a life-threatening crisis.

But if Wen Wen suddenly disappeared, Xu Hai would definitely flee immediately. A few minutes were enough for a person hell-bent on escaping to get far away.

So Wen Wen planned to tangle with this Leopard Puppet outside and play with the hidden puppet master for ten minutes, then deal with him afterwards!

And such a fight was truly exhilarating!

With the assurance of his life being safe, fighting a wild beast stronger than himself, using his own power instead of borrowed strength, was an intensely thrilling experience for Wen Wen.

If the monster wasn’t relentlessly pursuing him, Wen Wen might even get so excited that he’d stand trembling on the spot!

Shooting and dodging the monster’s attacks at the same time, Wen Wen soon became somewhat familiar with its patterns of movement.

Despite its speed and strength, with careful observation, he could still dodge based on its movements, after all, it wasn’t a real Disaster Level monster, but just a puppet in disguise.

Although Wen Wen had solved the problem with the Blazing Tiger’s recoil, hitting the creature was still not easy. The beast prioritized dodging the Blazing Tiger’s attacks. As soon as Wen Wen prepared to shoot, it would swiftly dodge.

This pattern of fighting ensured that the beast was not hit by the Blazing Tiger, but it also gave Wen Wen plenty of chances.

Whenever Wen Wen was forced into a corner, he would pretend to shoot with the Blazing Tiger. The monster would dodge, thereby giving Wen Wen a chance to breathe.

The scattering mode of the Pack of Wolves also played a significant role. This gun didn’t require precise aim; as long as the direction was correct, it was bound to hit.

After a few shots from Wen Wen, the creature was a bloody mess, riddled with small bullet holes, a sight that might make one’s skin crawl.

Unfortunately, the core of this monster is the puppet inside, and the flesh outside, even if shattered, does not affect its movement.

Moreover, the power of the buckshot mode bullets is less than that of normal Demon Hunting Bullets, and the beast’s strangely tough hide means that the Pack of Wolves’ attack is only a superficial wound to it, never reaching the puppet’s true body inside.

Wen Wen spent most of his time dodging; he didn’t fire many shots because the Leopard’s attacks were too fierce, and every shot he took was a significant risk.

In the high-intensity battle, Wen Wen held on for about five minutes, but his strength was flagging; after all, he was using his own physical abilities now.

To hold out for five minutes in front of such a creature would be considered superhuman for an ordinary person.

If this weren’t a controllable puppet but a real feline monster, Wen Wen would have long since met his demise here.

"I can’t go on like this, I’ve had my fun, and there’s about four minutes left... First, attack the body, it’ll be fun, hehe."

Wen Wen smiled and dashed toward the direction of Xu Hai’s scent, causing Xu Hai, who was watching the battle from another floor, to shiver with fright.

"I’m not even on the same floor as him, and it’s so dark here, how could he have locked onto me?"

There are myriad ways for a Hunter to track a beast, and scent tracking is just one of them, more commonly used by monsters, leaving Xu Hai somewhat uncertain as to how Wen Wen locked onto him.

Generally, scent tracking requires a strong source of scent, and since he had not formally confronted Wen Wen nor left behind anything with a heavy scent, Wen Wen should not have been able to track him by scent,

That’s right, he forgot about those unwashed underwear he stuffed in the corner...

Without time for Xu Hai to think further, Wen Wen was already charging toward him, forcing Xu Hai to flee while trying to control the Leopard Puppet to block Wen Wen’s pursuit.

Wen Wen was no match for his Demon Leopard, but Xu Hai was no match for Wen Wen either, where one shot from Wen Wen could finish him off.

Once the chase began, the Demon Leopard Puppet’s battle objective shifted from injuring Wen Wen to stopping Wen Wen’s advance, which somewhat relieved Wen Wen’s pressure, enabling him to barely keep going.

He deliberately matched Xu Hai’s escape speed, not too fast nor too slow, while trying to prevent him from going down to the first floor and escaping the abandoned building.

His goal was to drag out the time, not to find an opportunity to take down the Puppet’s controller.

In the last minute, Wen Wen suddenly.accelerated, catching Xu Hai off guard, who was not much stronger than an ordinary person, and soon Wen Wen cornered him in the second-floor hall.

Wen Wen, the Leopard Puppet, and Xu Hai were all about ten meters apart from each other.

"Hunter, as long as you don’t come after me again, I can let you go," said Xu Hai, striving to maintain his composure as he intimidated Wen Wen.

He now somewhat regretted his decision to come back and kill Wen Wen; it would have been better to just flee.

Xu Hai’s own strength wasn’t great; he could dominate an average person, but faced with Wen Wen holding two dangerous weapons, he felt absolutely no confidence.

Wen Wen’s face was covered in blood, seemingly at a disadvantage, yet the corners of his mouth slowly curled up into a twisted smile, laughing with delight.

"Hehehe, time’s up!"
