Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 839: Only You
Chapter 839: Chapter 839: Only You
"How are you different from them?"
Wen Wen hesitated for a moment before asking a question he had always been curious about.
"I’ve always wondered, if you Central Administrators were to directly intervene, that would be the easiest way to restore the Sanctuary to prosperity. There’s no need to take the slow path through me to revive the Sanctuary."
"Even if outsiders are really needed to restart the Sanctuary, there are many more suitable choices than I was at the time."
When Wen Wen first got hold of the Sanctuary, he was just an ordinary person, and he had considerable risks. Even a random superpower user would have been a more reliable choice than Wen Wen.
For instance, in the Sakura District, there’s someone who woke up one day already an Upper Sequence superpower user, clearly more suited for the task of making the Sanctuary great again.
Mo Gong took out a brush, drawing features like eyes, ears, and mouth on a wooden horse underneath him while speaking to Wen Wen.
"You have a lot of questions. I’ll answer them one by one."
"Jin Kela and the others should have told you that the decline of the Sanctuary started when we imprisoned a Monster exceeding the Sanctuary’s containment limit."
Wen Wen nodded. He didn’t see that Monster in the Catastrophe Zone, so it must be in the ’Catastrophe Zone.’
"Since the Monster already exceeded the Sanctuary’s containment limit, relying solely on the Sanctuary wouldn’t be enough. Thus, to effectively imprison it, we four Central Administrators had most of our Strength extracted to maintain the stability of the Catastrophe Zone!"
"But merely relying on the extracted Strength was far from enough, so we four are also the Pillars, and we must all stay in the Sanctuary to ensure nothing goes wrong."
"However, thanks to your efforts, the Sanctuary is gradually recovering, and Strength is slowly returning, making the Catastrophe Zone less dependent on us."
"Given the Sanctuary’s current state, Jin Kela and the others occasionally leaving the Sanctuary wouldn’t lead to anything bad."
"But I can’t."
"Because the pressure I bear alone is more than what the three of them combined are bearing!"
Wen Wen looked at Mo Gong in surprise, "How powerful were you originally?"
Mo Gong shrugged and said, "I was originally a heavenly god, while Jin Kela, Nivea, and Isweet were originally Spiritual Realm Gods."
In other words, Jin Kela and the others were as strong as Cicada Ancestor in their complete state, while Mo Gong was stronger than the three of them combined.
So what kind of terrifying existence requires the entire Sanctuary plus Mo Gong and the others to barely seal it?
"Before you open the Catastrophe Zone, without affecting the stability of the seal, I could only make one move and for a short time, and I want to use that opportunity on Bai Du."
Wen Wen nodded. Although he now had the True Sequence Rank combat ability, Bai Du was still a significant threat to him.
If he could trick Bai Du into extinguishing Wen Li, that would naturally be the best choice, but, unfortunately, Wen Wen knew very little about Bai Du.
It’s not scary for enemies to be strong, but it’s scary when they’re strong and hiding in the shadows, acting cautiously.
Mo Gong finished drawing the wooden horse underneath and lightly tapped on it. The wooden horse came to life, happily running around the Disaster Area.
"What I explained just now is why we don’t intervene, as for you..."
"Have more confidence; don’t belittle yourself. You are the most special human on this planet."
"The Sanctuary isn’t a brothel; you can’t just hire a few pretty girls to start a business."
"Only the most suitable person can Master this Strength, and at least, I’ve never seen anyone else who can completely match the Strength of the previous owner of the Sanctuary."
"You’re indispensable for the revival of the Sanctuary!"
Wen Wen wasn’t Silly; he wouldn’t just laugh foolishly at a single word of ’indispensable,’ but Mo Gong’s answer did clarify some of his doubts, so he shifted the topic elsewhere.
"Why do you need to wait for Isweet to leave before coming down for a stroll? Not leaving the Sanctuary, just wandering around various levels shouldn’t affect the stability of the seal, right?"
Mo Gong sighed and said, "I made some mistakes before, so they don’t want to see me."
Wen Wen looked at Mo Gong, feeling slightly speechless.
Something must have happened in the Sanctuary before, and Isweet and the others indeed had some reservations about Mo Gong.
But in Wen Wen’s view, Jin Kela and the others didn’t seem to have reached the point of hatred towards Mo Gong.
The reason Mo Gong sat idly on the fourth floor for a thousand years without wanting to leave the Sanctuary or meet the other three Guardians was actually more about self-punishment.
And the fact that he’s willing to take a stroll today indicates the Sanctuary’s development is getting better and positively affecting his mood, slightly alleviating his ’punishment.’
"By the way, give me a mirror, those things Monsters play with might relieve some boredom."
Wen Wen took out a mirror and handed it to him, then cautiously advised, "Through this mirror, you can use a mirrored reflection to enter a Slaughter Maze, where the Containment Officers train."
"You can go in and play, but please don’t destroy the maze or overly interfere with the battles between Containment Officers and Monsters."
Mo Gong took the mirror with a cheerful smile, heading toward the stairs while reassuring Wen Wen:
"Don’t worry, as long as they don’t mess with me, I won’t act against them..."
From that point onward, the Slaughter Maze featured an additional boss.
This boss could appear in any form, perhaps as a flower-selling little girl, or as a corpse in a roadside cesspit.
Normally, the boss isn’t aggressive, but if subjected to harmful behavior, even accidental harm would trigger it, causing all Monsters and Containment Officers in the same room to perish.
The original style of the Slaughter Maze was to attack anything alive, regardless of whether it was an enemy or not.
But due to the existence of this boss, the Slaughter Maze incorporated some strategy elements.
Both Monsters and Containment Officers became much more cautious, needing to estimate whether the opponent was a boss before acting.
Some even thought of pretending to be the boss to ambush other Containment Officers.
Of course, that boss was Mo Gong, and besides him, no one else in the Sanctuary could guarantee the sure death of an attacker.
However, Wen Wen didn’t stop his behavior, partly because he had been so bored and somewhat pitiful, and partly because it indeed provided some amusement to the Sanctuary, making the Slaughter Maze more appealing.
Wen Wen even considered having Jidro come up with a few more interesting mechanisms to add to the Slaughter Maze, rotating them over time to keep the Slaughter Maze fresh; simply attacking anyone seen was too dull.
