Chapter 823: Monster Rescue
Chapter 823: Chapter 823: Monster Rescue
Near Qing Ridge Plateau, rainfall is very low, but there is an abundance of water, with many lakes that serve as the source of numerous rivers in the Capital District.
To the west of Qingqin Prairie, there is a medium-sized lake, with a Lake Heart Island at its center, about an acre in size.
Lake Heart Island doesn’t have any special products and is essentially a standard barren island, but at the center of the island, there is a simple fence woven from branches, inside which reside over seventy refugees.
When the disaster occurred, some of the nearby residents brought ample food and rowed small boats to this place to seek refuge.
This Lake Heart Island is very remote and didn’t initially attract the attention of the Undead, making it quite safe at the beginning.
However, some undead later noticed them.
They are a group of floating corpses with pale skin and swollen bodies, yet they can move freely in the water.
If the refugees attempt to leave by boat or fish near the shore, they risk being dragged underwater and drowned by these floating corpses.
Fortunately, these floating corpses are only formidable underwater; once on shore, they become slow-moving bodies.
A few men with weapons can barely drive the floating corpses back into the water, allowing the refugees to remain peaceful.
Among them was an honest man who somehow suddenly gained the ability to control fire, and he could even kill the floating corpses that came ashore.
In fact, the situation on Lake Heart Island is not unique.
People who survive in this environment have more or less found ways to preserve their lives from the nearby undead.
Although the undead in the Dim Domain are numerous, not every one is so powerful that ordinary people cannot resist; most are dangerous but can be survived if the right methods are found.
If every undead were of the caliber of Gan Zhe Temple’s Three Divine Envoys, humans on Qing Ridge Plateau would have long been extinct.
The number of humans in the Dim Domain decreases rapidly not only because of the slaughter by the undead but also because of the constant rescue efforts by the Hunter Association.
However, the situation on Lake Heart Island is not optimistic. Although they can resist, human energy is limited, while the undead are tireless.
Originally, there were over a hundred people on Lake Heart Island, but now only about seventy remain.
This island, once a refuge from danger, has now become a cage from which they cannot escape.
Suddenly, a man guarding the high ground of Lake Heart Island exclaimed and pointed in a direction, shouting loudly; the lake water there was constantly churning as if something was battling underwater.
The refugees all gathered with weapons in this direction, nervously staring at the lake surface.
If it’s just those floating corpses, they can drive them back into the lake, but if it’s something else eerie, they really have no way to handle it.
Suddenly, a torn bluish-white corpse floated up from underwater, and at this moment, those floating corpses really turned into floating corpses.
Then there’s the second, the third...
After more than a dozen corpses floated up, the lake water finally calmed down, and a huge figure climbed up from the lake.
This figure is more than twice the size of a normal human, the fiercest of the floating corpses attacking the refugees, but at this moment, it moved hurriedly, seeming to evade something in the lake.
Before it could completely climb ashore, a disproportionately large snake rushed out from the lake, fiercely biting the floating corpse, shredding it in a few bites.
After killing the floating corpse, everyone realized that this wasn’t a giant snake at all but a massive eel!
The people were horrified; they could handle the floating corpses, but what could they do about such a giant beast?
The giant eel looked at the crowd, its mouth showing a human-like smile, then quickly twisted and transformed into a normal-looking man in red and black robes.
The man shook the water off his body, smiled at everyone, and said: "Everyone, don’t panic, I am Da Shanren, and I’ve come to save you.
"The floating corpses in the lake are now dealt with, please stay here for a while, I will notify people to come and get you."
After speaking, Da Shanren jumped back into the lake, leaving the people stunned.
Besides having many lakes, Qing Ridge Plateau also has numerous snow-capped mountains. On one insignificant mountain, there is a hidden cave, where several villagers gathered at the entrance, fearfully looking down to the bottom of the cave.
There was a monster, without skin, joints growing in reverse, mouth full of sharp teeth, quickly climbing towards their direction.
The villagers attempted to throw stones down to block the monster, but it was to no avail.
This monster was not only incredibly agile but could easily tear apart tigers and leopards, making the villagers’ survival impossible once targeted.
At this moment, a "chirp" sound came from the sky.
A black and red giant eagle descended from the sky, grasping the monster with its strong claws, tearing it apart effortlessly.
The giant eagle looked dashing with its red and black color scheme that seemed rather unnatural.
Landing outside the cave, its sharp gaze fixed on the crowd, it then spoke: "Continue to hide safely here, I am from the ’Black Cross,’ and soon, people from the ’Hunter Association’ will come to rescue you."
Similar events are occurring throughout the Dim Domain, with countless people on the brink of disaster being rescued by the monsters from the ’Black Cross.’
These monsters are all released by Wen Wen.
After leaving Gan Zhe Temple, he released twenty Disaster Level monsters and fifty Disaster Level monsters.
Most of these monsters were captured by the Containment Officers, and a few were caught by Wen Wen, but whose abilities weren’t useful to him.
Dispatching them does not weaken Wen Wen’s own strength at all.
The monsters’ primary task is to assist Wen Wen in exploring the surrounding terrain, marking the positions of the Hunter Association, Ming Dynasty Esoteric Buddhism, and the Undead forces.
Previously, Wen Wen didn’t expose his identity with the Black Cross, so he acted very restrained, but now that he has revealed his identity at Gan Zhe Temple, he no longer needs to leave the Sanctuary’s power unused.
In areas isolated from normal communication, the Sanctuary monsters, who have a natural connection with Wen Wen, are very suitable for operating within the Dim Domain.
Aside from identifying locations, the monsters have another task, which is to try to find survivors.
If the number of survivors is small, they escort them to the control area of the Hunter Association; if the number is large, they guide the Hunter Association people to the survivors’ location.
Although this action is only a drop in the ocean for the entire Dim Domain, it constitutes some of the actions Wen Wen has taken.
Wen Wen told Yin Hu that the Black Cross might come to Qing Ridge Plateau for rescue operations.
Previously, he kept his actions hidden and didn’t help rescue, but now that he’s appearing plainly, as an ally of the Hunter Association, not assisting them would indeed seem unjustifiable.
Now that the monsters are dispatched, hopefully, they will play a positive role.
