Chapter 812: Chapter 812: Bonfire Party

Apart from the four Divine Envoys, there were over a dozen others, human auras that seemed neither fully alive nor fully dead.

The strength of these humans varied mostly between Calamity Level to Disaster Level, with only one having the strength of Disaster Lower Order. The aura they carried was strikingly similar to that Great Divine Envoy, suggesting they were that envoy’s puppets.

For Wen Wen, who possessed both a Custodian Badge and a Mirror Eye, uncovering the situation here was fairly simple. If he wished to flatten this Refuge Shelter, he could initiate it now.

However, Wen Wen noticed that people inside the camp seemed to be preparing something, so he decided to wait and see.

Twenty minutes later, a bonfire was lit in the center of the Refuge Shelter, and people stopped their work, approaching the bonfire with smiles.

Pieces of marinated meat were being roasted around the bonfire, and various cooked dishes were placed on nearby tables for people to indulge in.

Singers stood at a height, singing aloud, while dancers gracefully moved around the bonfire.

The entire Refuge Shelter was lively; people gathered to enjoy the songs and dances, relieving their fatigue.

Occasionally, the roars of monsters from afar seemed to add to the celebration.

Wen Wen, with two rabbits, picked some tasty food and randomly found a place to sit.

The food supply at this feast was extremely abundant, offering various delicacies that would seem extravagant outside the Qing Ridge Plateau, and even more so within the Dim Domain.

Moreover, Wen Wen heard from a lady next to him that such feasts occurred every night. Where did this Refuge Shelter get so much food?

This Refuge Shelter must have some connection to the outside world, and a channel for food supply.

Wen Wen performed a simple test to ensure the items weren’t poisoned, then began to eat and drink without worry.

After all, since it was free, it’d be a waste not to have it.

After a while, Su Nuo approached, sitting beside Wen Wen, with a woman accompanying him.

Seeing the woman, Wen Wen paused slightly. The woman had a clear stitched scar on her neck, with a bow tied at the back.

"Is this your wife?" Wen Wen asked aloud.

"She’s my fiancée. After this disaster is over, I’ll marry her," Su Nuo said, holding Qin Shuhe’s hand and smiling at Wen Wen.

From Su Nuo’s expression, Wen Wen could tell that Su Nuo knew there was something unusual about Qin Shuhe, but he didn’t care.

"If you want to get married, you should do it quickly, or you might not have the chance," Wen Wen suddenly said without context.

Su Nuo paused after hearing this, seemingly having realized something.

To him, Wen Wen’s words implied that the disaster might not end, so waiting for it to end before marrying was unwise.

Thus, he stood up, pulling Qin Shuhe along to a corner. When they returned, a blush graced Qin Shuhe’s face, and rings adorned the ring fingers of both their left hands.

Su Nuo, with a hint of boasting, said to Wen Wen, "Thank you for the reminder; now she’s my wife."

Wen Wen didn’t reply. Earlier, while observing the Refuge Shelter with his Mirror Eye, he had seen Su Nuo secretly caress the ring box.

Hence, to return Su Nuo’s initial kind reminder, Wen Wen nudged him slightly, because he knew full well that Qin Shuhe wouldn’t make it through the night.

The two rabbits on Wen Wen’s left were discussing some delicious items, while Su Nuo and Qin Shuhe were lovey-dovey on the right, leaving Wen Wen as the lone observer at odds with the feast.

No, he wasn’t the only one who hadn’t blended into the feast.

The Great Divine Envoy never appeared;

The Supervisory Divine Envoy sat at a window on the second floor of Gan Zhe Temple, watching the bustling feast sinisterly, seeking out hidden dangers within the gathering;

The Mighty Divine Envoy stood in a corner of the camp, clutching a live cow in one arm, pinching its mouth with the other, incessantly gnawing on its body with a bloody maw;

The Scythe Divine Envoy perched on a rooftop, gripping a trembling scythe, yearning to charge into the crowd and slice them all into board-like thin slices!

As the feast progressed, the atmosphere among the other attendees turned peculiar; although still laughing heartily, a slight fear lurked in their eyes, as if something ominous was about to happen.

The bonfire gradually dimmed, and a man in a red cloak, crowned with a golden crown, emerged from Gan Zhe Temple.

Accompanying him were six beautiful women, presumably those serving the Divine Envoys, as Su Zhe had mentioned.

But these women were like Qin Shuhe, with stitch marks on their necks, leaving one to question whether they were alive or dead.

Once the man appeared, the noisy feast immediately quieted down, with everyone watching the man in the red robe, observing his every move.

Seeming both expectant and fearful.

The man surveyed all the participants at the feast, lingering longest on some new faces, especially Wen Wen and two Little Rabbit Demons.

Those two young girls, though small in age, were exceedingly beautiful, apt to become puppets to serve those three rough fellows.

As for the man wearing the ridiculous Iron-eating Beast mask, he could be the camp’s jester, if he lacked the talent for comedy he’d be slain, and the mask given to another willing entertainer.

After mentally planning for all newcomers, the man spoke to the crowd:

"It seems we have a few new companions today, so let me reintroduce myself. I’m Lu Qiyou, designated by the Divine Envoys as the king of this Refuge Shelter!"

"As you can see, amid this apocalypse, this Refuge Shelter is the sole Paradise."

"Everything you enjoy here, including fine wine and food, beautiful song and dance, and even restful sleep, are all thanks to the great Crimson Overlord!"

"Thus, be grateful, pray, for only the Crimson Overlord is the one true Deity!"

Lu Qiyou paused, and his tone became somewhat sinister.

"However, every gift from the Deity has a price; these things are not given without cost. If you wish to reside here, you must worship the Crimson Overlord!"

"And every day, one must be chosen, be it the least devout to the Crimson Overlord or the least contributive to the camp, to repay the favor of the Crimson Overlord’s protection!"

Wen Wen’s eyebrows rose, and he clapped in agreement with Lu Qiyou’s words.

Lu Qiyou’s explanation clarified many things.

The so-called repayment must be the Blood Sacrifice.

Lu Qiyou was momentarily interrupted by the applause, but he didn’t reprimand Wen Wen.

All along, whenever he spoke these words, everyone remained silent; today was the first time someone clearly showed support.

So he lightly coughed and said to everyone, "Then let me announce today’s selection."

As he spoke, everyone held their breath, waiting for Lu Qiyou to name someone.

And that person...would die!
