Chapter 783 Xia Weiyi
Chapter 783: Chapter 783 Xia Weiyi
Previously, when Wen Wen had captured Ning Zhewan, he had secretly placed the chains of the Sanctuary within his body.
This arrangement by Wen Wen had been made on the spur of the moment but now proved to be quite effective, as Wen Wen could see where Ning Zhewan had gone.
After disappearing from Wen Wen’s location, he instantly appeared in a building filled with dim lighting and a classical flair.
On the stone floor, a Rune Array was drawn, and Ning Zhewan was standing right in the center of it.
Across from Ning Zhewan, stood a man in a gray robe. The man’s lips were framed by neatly trimmed mustaches, black and white, indicating he was no longer young.
In his hands, he held an ancient, yellowing book and wore a pair of glasses with thick silver frames engraved with dense runes, making the glasses appear somewhat odd.
This man was named Xia Weiyi, and the runes in Ning Zhewan’s room had been drawn by him.
If Xia Weiyi hadn’t dragged Ning Zhewan away, Wen Wen’s reformation plan might have already been successful.
But now the reformation had been cut off halfway, and those seven thousand people were still facing the threat of death.
However, Xia Weiyi’s actions also exposed his presence. He had previously avoided any contact with Ning Zhewan, so Wen Wen couldn’t grasp any clues to find him, but now he could no longer escape!
Wen Wen stretched his limbs, a slight smile playing on his lips, and he said to Tao Qingqing, "This is where it gets interesting. Solving everything just by talking would be too dull. You stay here to protect these people, and I’ll go catch that rat!"
"Also, while you protect them, don’t try too hard, focus on buying time. Don’t let the resentment feel that it can’t kill them, yet don’t make it too easy for success. If it really becomes impossible to handle, then..."
"I understand what to do."
Tao Qingqing nodded, she understood Wen Wen’s intentions.
That was, if gentle means couldn’t protect these people, then they must be abandoned.
Otherwise, it would only bring harm to others later on, an unfortunate choice under dire circumstances.
Wen Wen believed Tao Qingqing could control the situation, so he then entered the Sanctuary, aware the mastermind might leave Ning Zhewan at any time, hence Wen Wen had to quickly grab his tail.
...
"Uncle Xia, why did you make me leave there?"
Ning Zhewan growled at Xia Weiyi, his body radiating formidable resentment, but Xia Weiyi’s expression remained unchanged.
His voice a bit hoarse, he said, "The resentments were starting to sway. If I had let you stay there, all our efforts would have been in vain."
Ning Zhewan took a step forward, "Swaying, isn’t that good?"
Xia Weiyi scoffed, "Good in what way?"
"I promised you, willing to sacrifice myself to seek justice for those resentments, but even with justice, they are still in the void enduring endless pain from the resentments. If we can help them resolve their grievances and settle their spirits, that would be the best outcome for them."
The one who had been most deeply influenced by Wen Wen’s words was actually Ning Zhewan himself.
Although countless resentments had gathered in his body, transforming it into a revenge monster, his thoughts remained relatively lucid, and he knew what choice was best for those resentments.
He had been willing to sacrifice himself for revenge on behalf of those grudges, and naturally, he was also willing to make the right choice for those grudges now.
Xia Weiyi pushed his glasses up, a fierce glint flashing across his eyes, "Idiot, you know better than anyone what they have done. What use is an apology?"
"An apology cannot bring the victims back to life, only an eye for an eye, blood for blood, can repay the sins they committed!"
"And it’s not just about those grudges. Do you think that after those seven thousand people apologize, such incidents won’t happen again?"
"Impossible!"
"Only fear and pain can make humans remember things. By executing all seven thousand people, those who like to speak evil will feel the fear, and afterward..."
Xia Weiyi was still expounding at length, but Ning Zhewan had already turned around, prepared to leave this place and find Wen Wen to complete the half-finished transformation.
What he became did not matter to him. After all, until he found his target, he was nothing more than a walking corpse.
Speaking on behalf of those grudges was the most meaningful thing he had done in his life, so he wanted to seek the best outcome for them.
Xia Weiyi gently covered his forehead; Ning Zhewan’s mind was still as dull as it had always been.
Although Xia Weiyi had chosen Ning Zhewan precisely because his thought process was different from others, this dullness was now starting to affect him.
Luckily, Xia Weiyi was well-prepared for this...
The ancient book opened automatically to a certain page, then Xia Weiyi gently tapped on the page, and a red Rune Array appeared on the back of Ning Zhewan’s head.
The power of the runes flowed through Ning Zhewan’s body, rendering him immobile. His body, already a mixture of Array power and grudges, had no resistance against Xia Weiyi.
"Although doing this feels a bit unfair to you, for the sake of my plan, let me inconvenience you a bit. After all, you won’t remember anyway."
Xia Weiyi walked up to Ning Zhewan, reached out and tapped his forehead; the red Array at the back of his head brightened. Once the Array was activated, Ning Zhewan would lose the memory of this period and continue to act as a beast driven solely by revenge.
Just as the Array was about to activate, a voice appeared beside Xia Weiyi’s ear, "I’m quite curious, what is your plan?"
Suddenly, the sound of clanking chains emanated from within Ning Zhewan’s body, followed by the appearance of Wen Wen beside Xia Weiyi. With a kick, he pushed Ning Zhewan away, and the about-to-be-activated Array was promptly stopped.
Xia Weiyi’s face drastically changed; he had always been careful to maintain a distance from Ning Zhewan. He would not have met with Ning Zhewan this time if he hadn’t sensed imminent failure, but this slight oversight had now gotten him targeted by this Demon Hunter.
When Xia Weiyi first met Wen Wen through Ning Zhewan, he was already wary of Wen Wen, so he had always remained hidden.
Logically, he had set runes on those voters to prevent them from passing on any messages.
Merely from those random fatal accidents, the Hunters Association should have had difficulty taking notice of this incident. At most, they would have sent a superpower user from the Assimilation Realm to deal with it.
But why would a superpower user, who seemed immensely powerful, care about this trivial matter and personally participate in the voting?
One possibility was that the person was simply bored and had a nasty character, so he watched that video.
The second was that the Hunters Association had many informants and an impenetrable information network online!
The first possibility was immediately dismissed by Xia Weiyi, but the second possibility made him break out in a cold sweat. He had not anticipated the Hunters Association was so formidable!
