Chapter 710: Chapter 700 Where Did Everyone Go?
In the evening, on the streets of Nim City.
A six-eyed flying fish fell from the sky, and two people along with a snake jumped from its back. Afterwards, the flying fish ascended back into the sky and disappeared into the moonlight.
"Phew, finally back. Come to think of it, I’ve been hungry for a month. Let’s find a place to have a big meal."
"Mm... Not going to the Dark Kitchen."
Wen Wen had talked with someone from the headquarters on the Sky Curtain Giant Whale, and was then sent down on a six-eyed flying fish.
However, they were only responsible for sending him to Nim City. Wen Wen needed to buy his own plane ticket to get back to the Capital District.
Actually, for Wen Wen, being a detective was the same anywhere. After all, he spoke the language, and the Golden Eagle District was even more novel to him.
But since the foundation of the Sanctuary was in the Capital District, Wen Wen didn’t want to spend too much time in other districts.
Wen Wen’s custom plane would probably take some time to complete. When it was ready, the people from the US-Canada District would deliver it to his doorstep, so Wen Wen didn’t have to worry about it.
After having a big meal, Wen Wen used his Hunters Association privileges to get two free plane tickets, ready to return to the Capital District.
...
In Menxia Province, Xihong City, Huangmu County.
A man holding a briefcase was as pale as death, his body shaking uncontrollably.
His name was Wei Jixian, a Supporter from another province. Although he wasn’t a superpower user, he had a few tricks up his sleeve that ordinary people didn’t possess.
Long-term demon hunting work put too much mental pressure on ordinary people, so every Supporter got a vacation after working for a period.
He lived in the countryside, and since the bus to his stop ran late, the sun had set by the time he arrived, leaving only one bus going to his home.
Only he and one other passenger were waiting. Strangely, when he got on the bus, the other person hadn’t had the chance to board before the bus departed, leaving just one seat available.
The bus rode very smoothly; Wei Jixian didn’t feel a single bump.
At first, Wei Jixian didn’t notice anything wrong. He was already exhausted from the journey and just wanted to sleep a while on the bus.
But as soon as he fell asleep, he received a phone call. It was his captain, telling him that his holiday had been extended for more than ten days. There was no need to hurry back to work.
After hanging up, Wei Jixian felt a chill, and when he woke up, it seemed like all the passengers were looking at him...
Upon closer inspection, no one on the bus was talking, snoring, and even...
No one was breathing!
This was a ghost car!
A middle-aged woman sitting next to Wei Jixian whispered in his ear, "Big brother, you got on the wrong bus. None of the people on this bus are human..."
"Then... then what should I do?"
Wei Jixian said, trembling. He looked afraid, but he had already grabbed a newly issued ghost-hunting tool—the Child’s Urine High-Pressure Water Gun.
This thing had just been distributed from the upper echelons of the Association, basically one shot per ordinary ghost. Although it would be useless against a bus full of ghosts, it could still take down a couple if he was going to die.
But why would such a ghost car appear in his hometown?
Was the local Hunters Association neglecting its duties?
Those ghosts hiding in secret places might go unnoticed and unattended, but a ghost car that brazenly picks up passengers at the bus station and still operates smoothly—that’s just outrageous. And with so many passengers on board, how could it not be discovered?
The auntie whispered softly, "How about this? I’ll help you jump out the window. Otherwise, when those things start to react, you..."
"Alright, make it quick."
Wei Jixian knew the auntie didn’t have good intentions—she might be planning to take him out of the bus for herself. Yet his joy wasn’t feigned; as soon as he was out of the bus, the only ghost he would have to deal with was this auntie.
The auntie grabbed Wei Jixian’s shoulders and jumped right out the window.
The Strength of the Ghost allowed Wei Jixian to land steadily without any harm.
As Wei Jixian had expected, the auntie revealed a strange smile, saying to him, "Now there’s no one to fight over you with me."
The auntie’s face turned pale green, emitting a chilling Ghost Qi, while Wei Jixian also gripped the Child’s Urine High-Pressure Water Gun, ready to spray the auntie in the face at any moment.
Just then, a vague sobbing sound emerged, interrupting the impending clash between the living and the ghost.
Both turned their heads to see a long-haired woman with a ponytail, wearing red, sitting under a streetlamp with her back to them.
Wei Jixian’s heart tightened. As a Supporter, even by thinking with his toes, he knew there was definitely something wrong with this newly appeared woman.
The auntie, with a grim aura, walked towards the young woman. Did this little red-dressed ghost plan to compete with her for a man?
Auntie Zhao, when she was alive, wasn’t someone who liked to share things. She once had a woman who tried to compete with her for her husband, and she publicly humiliated her on the street.
And this woman only had a trace of Ghost Qi about her; a few slaps from Auntie Zhao could scatter her soul.
"Get up, and then get lost for your mother."
"I... my eyes, they’re gone... my nose, my hands..."
Auntie Zhao’s eyebrows rose. Was this little ghost girl playing this trick? Was she going to turn around next and try to scare her?
This was a trick commonly used by weak Resentful Spirits. They were so weak that they could only succeed by scaring the living into mental breakdowns. But to an old ghost like her, what use was that?
She pressed a hand onto the shoulder of the red-dressed woman, but it collapsed under her touch as if the clothes were stuffed with loose threads.
"This doesn’t feel right; I should’ve been able to touch her ghostly body."
Confused, Auntie Zhao moved in front of the red-dressed woman. After seeing her front, she suddenly widened her eyes and felt a cold surge straight to her head, shaking her ghostly body.
In front of the woman, she saw that ponytail again!
It wasn’t just the ponytail. The woman squatting on the ground was nothing but long hair and a bloody lump of vocal cords, nothing else!
That red dress was propped up by hair!
And the Ghost Qi on this thing did not come from herself; it came from another ghost in front of her, mangled beyond recognition.
The woman’s numerous strands of hair were weaving through the other ghost’s body, searching every part of its ghostly form, all the while murmuring:
"Where did my feet go, my heart... my ears..."
Auntie Zhao hurriedly tried to escape, but found that she was already unable to move, incapable of utilizing any of her abilities.
"After I’ve found him... I’ll look for you," the lump of vocal cords mumbled indistinctly to Auntie Zhao.
Wei Jixian slowly retreated, running off after backing up about ten meters.
That thing was definitely not just a ghost, nor any simple monster. At least the Hunter Association in his city had never encountered anything so bizarre.
The Ghost Car didn’t scare him, Auntie Zhao didn’t scare him, but that mass of hair and vocal cords gave even a battle-hardened Wei Jixian the creeps.
He ran all the way to the entrance of another village before finally stopping.
His face was deathly pale, trembling continuously.
He planned to first contact the local Hunter Association; he knew something was going to happen to his hometown.
Both the Ghost Car and that indescribable thing suggested that this place was about to spiral out of control.
But he didn’t see that on the back of his clothes, a strand of black hair was wriggling; if you listened closely, you could even hear a faint sound.
"Where are you all... my bones... my blood... where have they all gone?"
