Chapter 640: Chapter 629: Legendary Beast Tamer
"Strange, I may not know every High Order Demon Hunter in the Capital District, but I at least have an impression of them all. So how come I’ve never seen this old man before? Also, can someone as old as he is still perform at his original strength?"
Thus, Wen Wen asked Zhu Qipei, "May I ask who this elderly gentleman is?"
Zhu Qipei, without lifting his head, said, "That old man’s name is Feng Bei, he’s a nearly two-hundred-year-old Undead who has retired from the Hunters Association. It’s normal for you not to recognize him."
"Feng Bei... to think he’s the legendary Beast Tamer, Master Feng Bei. I never imagined I would see the man himself!"
Wen Wen’s eyes lit up. The Beast Tamer’s Manual he had originally bought, was it really authored by this old man?
So Wen Wen immediately walked over to the elderly man, squeezed the monkey aside, extended his hand and said, "Hello, hello, I’ve long admired your work. I’m a Ranger, Mystic Detective, and a fan of yours."
Master Feng Bei politely smiled. He hadn’t worked at the Association for nearly a hundred years, yet he hadn’t expected there would still be people who remembered his great achievements as a Demon Hunter.
Wen Wen sat opposite him and said a little excitedly, "I have thoroughly studied your Beast Tamer’s Manual. It’s simply a masterpiece and has greatly benefited me. However, I still have some doubts that I need you to clarify."
"Recently, I’ve captured a Monster that’s an absolute lunatic. I want it to work for me, but I’ve tried everything in your manual, and the Monster still refuses to obey, even preferring death..."
Master Feng Bei’s expression froze on his face; he hadn’t expected Wen Wen to know him through the Beast Tamer’s Manual.
That thing was, to put it mildly, not so much a work of his as it was his dark past. The knowledge in it was not the problem, but the description of certain knowledge totally exposed his youthful recklessness and special quirks, leading people to consider him a pervert for a long time.
He had printed twenty copies of the Beast Tamer’s Manual, and over the years, he had managed to recall and destroy nineteen of them. He had searched for the last one to no avail and thought it was gone, only to find it in the hands of Wen Wen.
After thinking for a while, Feng Bei said to Wen Wen, "Mr. Wen, could you sell me that copy of the Beast Tamer’s Manual? I’m willing to pay double the Demon Hunting Coins you paid for it. With age, I just want to collect my past works..."
Upon hearing this good news, Wen Wen immediately took out the Beast Tamer’s Manual and offered an inflated price.
After seeing the cover, Feng Bei’s eyes brightened, and he paid the money readily. Taking the Beast Tamer’s Manual, he conjured a wild strength in his hand and crushed the manual into particles.
"This misleading book of evil, finally not a single copy remains." Master Feng Bei, nearly two hundred years old, finally took a deep breath, feeling a sense of rebirth.
Being regarded as a pervert was beyond words. A couple of years ago, when he visited his great-great-granddaughter’s house, she even hid her pet cat first...
"What are you doing? That is valuable knowledge left by Master Feng Bei. I can sell it to you, but you can’t disrespect it!" Wen Wen said angrily, seeing the book turned to dust.
Feng Bei stroked his beard and said in a very Zen-like manner, "Young man, don’t be hasty. I am Master Feng Bei. If you want to learn the art of taming, I can teach you."
Wen Wen was silent for a moment, then smiled, "Luckily, the one I sold you was a photocopy. Otherwise, by selling it to you, I could have faced divine retribution. I’ve decided to find a group of young people to pass on the Secret Manual, to preserve and spread its greatness."
Master Feng Bei’s hand trembled, pulling out several of his whiskers. He, who had always been as robust as an ox, now felt as if he was about to die on the spot.
"Enough, stop arguing over such trivial matters and let’s discuss the action plan," Zhu Qipei finally finished polishing his large axe, which glinted ominously.
Wen Wen nodded solemnly and said, "Speaking of that, I’ve been wanting to ask, Dr. Feng is a High Order superpower user. The two of you should be enough to hunt him down, why call me in?"
Master Feng Bei replied, "If it were just my brother, Pig Head and I would suffice. But the issue is my brother always hangs around with my teacher. To be honest, even with the three of us, I still feel it’s not enough."
Wen Wen’s eyes narrowed slightly. So, Dr. Feng turned out to be Master Feng Bei’s brother. The Feng surname was indeed rare, yet Dr. Feng seemed to be over two hundred years old, but in photos, he appeared to be no more than thirty.
Among human superpower users, unless one is a True Self level master or a True-order Master who has acquired True Self traits, their lifespan is at most only two to three times that of a normal person.
After all, they remain human, not monsters; they only take on the appearance of monsters while in the Assimilation State.
Of course, superpower users whose abilities relate to longevity are an exception. Wen Wen suspected that Chu Wei would live an exceptionally long life without any surprises...
And who is the teacher of Dr. Feng and Master Feng Bei? To be their mentor, the person must be older than them. Perhaps they are even an escapee from the Sanctuary!
Master Feng Bei sighed and said, "Feng Rao and I are blood brothers. Over a hundred and seventy years ago, during the chaotic wars, Feng Rao and I ’accidentally’ awakened our Superpowers and were taken as disciples by a mysterious man."
"Under the tutelage of that man, I began to learn the way of the Beast Tamer, while Feng Rao delved into botany... At first, I thought our teacher was some kind of recluse, wanting us to protect our country and people during troubled times..."
"But when we were about to break through to the Assimilation Realm, he revealed his true intention. He wasn’t cultivating students at all, but was grooming two vessels that could bear specific Remnant Spirits, allowing his deceased companions to return to reality!"
"It was then I realized he was not human, but a terrifying monster that had lived for god knows how many years!"
"I was lucky enough to win over the Remnant Spirit amidst the chaos and gained control over my body, whereas the dominant consciousness in Feng Rao became the Remnant Spirit that was the source of his ability..."
"Later, I worked for the Association, always searching for traces of Feng Rao, hoping to kill him and free him from his suffering. But he often acted together with my teacher, which gave me no chance to make a move."
Wen Wen nodded, understanding that if what Master Feng Bei said was true, that experience must have been excruciating. Then he turned to Zhu Qipei and asked, "So why do you, Old Zhu, insist on killing this Dr. Feng?"
Zhu Qipei snorted coldly and said, "The first time I met him, he said he could use plants to create a real female Pig-headed person. I paid him and brought home a perfect female Pig-headed person."
"But when I woke up the next day, I found a strange plant by my bed, and the parts of my body that had come into contact with that vine were becoming plant-like. Were it not for the old Beast Tamer, I wouldn’t have had the chance to come back to you to buy dolls."
Wen Wen wiped away his cold sweat. Such reasons for a grudge really matched well with Zhu Qipei.
However, if Wen Wen himself had encountered such events, he would have chased Dr. Feng to the ends of the earth to utterly destroy him.
