Catastrophe Containment Facility
Chapter 638 - 627: Plant Doctor

Chapter 638: Chapter 627: Plant Doctor

The armored brute didn’t waste words; he launched an attack directly at Dr. Feng, smashing him into the teaching building with his axe.

Monstrous plant growths, like ghastly gigantic tentacles, thrived within the teaching building, bursting it apart as if the solid structure were mere foam before those roots and branches.

But before the armored brute, these terrifying plant branches meant nothing; a gentle swing of his furious axe could sever them, each massive vine trembling the ground as it fell.

"This strength... is beyond our involvement,"

Comparing this scene with the Disaster Intermediate Sequence powerhouses he had seen before, Yan Xiu knew that both of the fighters possessed at least the strength of the Disaster Upper Order or beyond.

The four didn’t stop to watch the fight but immediately fled the campus, knowing that regardless of who won, their safety couldn’t be guaranteed.

As long as they could spread the word about Dr. Feng’s presence here, he would have no reason to chase after them, and it would be Dr. Feng who would have to flee Furong River City instead.

Watching Green Source Middle School crumble into ruins amidst the roaring sound, Li Dazhuang scratched his head and said, "Back when I was a student, I could never finish my holiday homework, so every year around this time, I wished the school would just disappear... The students of Green Source Middle School are really lucky."

Li Dazhuang tried to lighten the mood, but the other three rolled their eyes simultaneously. Lin Lu and You Han had been good students, and Yan Xiu had never even attended a regular middle school.

After a brief awkward moment, all four laughed, feeling a sense of surviving a great calamity. When Dr. Feng had targeted them before, even the most optimistic Lin Lu had felt despair.

Then, Yan Xiu, You Han, and Li Dazhuang exchanged knowing glances, each reading something in the others’ eyes, and then silently agreed to say nothing.

Lin Lu looked at the three men who were oddly in sync and suspected they were keeping a secret from her. Could it be that Yan Xiu and You Han were having an affair behind her back?

...

After taking a shower, Wen Wen stepped out in a bathrobe with a cage in hand, while Tao Qingqing lay on the sofa in hamster pajamas and sleepily turned away upon seeing Wen Wen.

The two still shared a room in a guesthouse, not because Wen Wen was stingy about getting her a separate room, but because her identity was officially unregistered, making it impossible for her to stay alone.

Tao Qingqing’s fake identity was in the works, and it was going to take some time to be ready.

She didn’t see any issues with this arrangement and even volunteered to warm Wen Wen’s bed, a suggestion that Wen Wen haughtily refused.

"You’re a vampire, as cold as a corpse, who would be warming whom?"

Indeed, that’s exactly what Wen Wen said.

The creature in the cage was a fierce little monster with red skin and a tail, black wings, and small horns, wielding a half-meter long manure fork as its weapon.

It was a Lil’ Inferior Demon, one of the lowest-class demons, which an ordinary man could take down with a bit of courage. Previously, it had been secretly tormenting stray cats and dogs in the darker parts of the streets until Wen Wen caught it in passing.

There was a drawer-like structure beneath the cage; Wen Wen took a circular steel plate and inserted it into the small drawer.

Wen Wen had captured this Lil’ Inferior Demon to test the effects of various runes – otherwise, he would have killed it without a second thought.

After inserting the new rune, the Lil’ Inferior Demon’s eyes glazed over, and it lay on the ground murmuring, "I’m just a tardigrade, I want to help you lick the toilet clean..."

"Hmm, this rune is quite interesting... Maybe try this one?"

After the switch, the Lil’ Inferior Demon started breakdancing again...

Having acquired the Blood River Sword, Wen Wen’s skills in swordsmanship had improved by leaps and bounds, and it was difficult to make significant progress in a short time, so aside from practicing the sword for two hours each day, he now devoted most of his energy to the study of runes.

The more he delved into the study of Advanced Rune Analysis, which he had purchased with the Xun-style Sword Technique, the more he realized that the various runes he had mastered were actually very similar to the Youta script recorded in the Book of Thunder.

It was just that the runes had some additional embellishments on certain special Youta characters, which endowed them with astounding powers; the runes used by superpower users must be a variant of Youta script.

There must be great secrets hidden within this, and if he could unravel the relationship between the two, Wen Wen was sure to reap considerable benefits.

As he was absorbed in research, Wen Wen noticed that Li Dazhuang had entered the Sanctuary; it looked like he had something to tell him. He thus set the poor Lil’ Inferior Demon aside and went inside the Sanctuary, transforming into the Calamity Prison Supervisor to meet with Li Dazhuang.

Li Dazhuang provided a detailed account of everything from receiving the mission to escaping Dr. Feng’s control with the help of the armored man.

"You mean, the mysterious person asked you if you had heard of the Catastrophe Containment Facility?"

"Yes, he said he was entrusted by someone," Li Dazhuang replied.

Without letting any emotion show on his face, Wen Wen told Li Dazhuang, "I already know what you’ve told me; you can go back now."

After Li Dazhuang left, Wen Wen stroked his chin, deep in thought. He was looking for the fugitives from the Sanctuary, and those fugitives were surely looking for him as well. So could that mysterious Dr. Feng be one of the escapees from the Sanctuary? And who was that mysterious armored man?

If Dr. Feng was an escapee from the Sanctuary, wouldn’t capturing him allow Wen Wen to be promoted to the Disaster Intermediate Sequence?

It was a pity that Li Dazhuang had waited until after the events had concluded to inform Wen Wen. Now it seemed too late to rush to Furong River City; the Association would certainly be attempting to capture Dr. Feng, and it was likely he was no longer in Furong River City.

With a mindset to try his luck, Wen Wen opened the Ranger Terminal and entered the name Feng Rao, which sounded like it had an abundant harvest vibe. To his surprise, information on Feng Rao actually appeared; a white tailcoat with a green top hat should indeed be the man Li Dazhuang and his group had encountered.

Just like Wu Wang, Feng Rao was also a wanted criminal by the Hunter Association, codenamed ’Plant Doctor’. He first appeared in a small city in the Golden Eagle District and liked to use ordinary people for human experiments.

The reason he was listed as a top wanted criminal by the Association was that he once orchestrated a bona fide zombie crisis in the Golden Eagle District!

However, these zombies were different from the ones in the movies; they were plant zombies with greenish skin and chlorophyll flowing through their veins, yet in every other aspect they were just like regular zombies, mindless, painless, tirelessly pursuing living beings, and anyone bitten by them would turn into the same kind of zombie.

But this zombie crisis was more of a farce compared to those in the movies. It was dealt with by local residents after just three days.

Indeed, it was the ordinary residents who took care of them with shovels and baseball bats.

These zombies were more terrifying than movie zombies during the day, with agile and unmatched movements, but they had a fatal weakness.

It was that these zombies were powered by photosynthesis, which is why they could move tirelessly, but precisely because of that, they could only operate in sunlight – humans simply hid in the dark, and they were rendered helpless.

At night, they even became prey for humans. The reason they lasted three days was because the residents of the small city were too timid...

Even though it was a farce, Feng Rao still climbed the Hunter Association’s wanted list due to the tremendous danger he posed.

From Li Dazhuang’s description, Wen Wen guessed that the guy must be working on a version 2.0 of plant zombies, and this version was capable of activity at night!
