Chapter 626: Chapter 615: The Terrified Town

Rotten corpses crawled up from the ground, their hollow eyes staring at the unsettled people in terror.

Panic boiled over again, and this time there were no signs of calming down; people burst out of their homes and fled in horror.

After rushing out, the townspeople were horrified to find that such moving bodies were everywhere in the town; the terrifying scene was not only happening in their homes.

These corpses moved slowly and seemed frail, but the townspeople dared not to fight against them. They were afraid that if they were injured by these bodies, they would be turned into zombies just like in the movies.

Some townspeople tried to leave this devilish town, only to find that once they walked out or drove out, they wouldn’t get far before finding themselves back inside the town; they simply couldn’t leave!

Wen Wen narrowed his eyes and watched the town’s panic escalate. He knew he had to take action, as things were definitely heading towards disaster.

The goal of the Hateful Demon Monster was not only to kill all the townspeople, but it also wanted them to suffer the greatest fear and deepest despair before death. Such unbridled, extreme fear could give birth to other terrifying entities.

After thinking it over, Wen Wen landed in front of a woman screaming in the corner of the wall. Using the ability to control the Heart Demon Molodeni, he avoided Tao Qingqing and said to her, "Everything you see is an illusion, this town is also the Illusionary Realm."

"Illusion, it’s all an illusion..."

Under the power of the Heart Demon, the woman believed Wen Wen’s words, but unlike Wen Wen, she was not expelled from the Illusionary Realm. This proved that telling them the truth to escape from here was a method that was completely ineffective.

"If this won’t work, then we’ll have to gather all the townspeople in one place for protection instead of letting them run around like headless flies."

Wen Wen snapped his fingers, and dozens of figures in black with black hoods appeared before him.

All these figures were Puppets, created by Wen Wen’s order to Xu Hai using humanoid tiger corpses. They were originally almost at Calamity Level in strength, and even as Puppets, their power exceeded that of ordinary people.

To distinguish them from the monsters of the Sanctuary, they wore black uniforms similar to camouflage, and they also carried various modern firearms. Without taking off the masks, they would simply look like a special forces team, not monsters.

Wen Wen didn’t summon the monsters from the Sanctuary; their appearance would only create deeper panic. Also, in the Illusionary Town, the mindless Puppets were actually more useful than those monsters. Even if they died, Wen Wen wouldn’t feel any regret.

"Find every living person in this town and bring them to the center. Make sure they are not harmed," he commanded.

After issuing his orders, the shadowy figures vanished, beginning to guide the townspeople.

The panic-stricken townspeople saw these Puppets as if they were a mainstay, and without much resistance, they cooperated and headed to the town center, mistaking the Puppets as rescue personnel from the Federal Government.

Wen Wen remained in place, maintaining contact with every Puppet, awaiting the Hateful Demon Monster to disrupt his action of gathering the people—then he could catch the creature.

But strangely enough, throughout the process, the Hateful Demon Monster never showed itself.

"If I protect the townspeople at the center, its revenge purpose cannot be achieved. It should want to stop me, unless... this approach doesn’t affect its vengeful actions." Wen Wen’s heart was shrouded with a shadow, but the action of gathering the townspeople still had to continue.

The Puppets acted swiftly, and the town was not large. In just about ten minutes, the majority of the townspeople had gathered on the streets at the town center. There were a good few thousand of them.

Sitting on the ground, calmed by the Puppets, they looked panic-stricken and uneasy, terrified of encountering something horrifying again.

Wen Wen activated the Angel of Universal Light’s ability and descended before the townspeople, speaking with a friendly tone, "Fellow townsmen, listen to me, you must stay calm."

Under Wen Wen’s soothing speech, the townspeople gradually calmed down, and their panic was no longer as intense as before.

Wen Wen cleared his throat and continued, "I know this town has experienced something terrifying, and you all have gone through unimaginable sorrow. But please believe that I will keep you safe, and when this is all over, you can return to a new... a new, what the hell!"

Wen Wen stopped his speech, for he saw a purple-black gas beginning to seep from the ground, within which there seemed to be countless twisted faces.

This scent was all too familiar to Wen Wen. It was the unique essence of the Hateful Demon Monster. It had somehow amplified its distinct essence and released it from underground, spreading it among the crowd.

By the time Wen Wen realized it, all the townspeople gathered at the center had already been infected by this eerie gas!

An elderly man in his sixties shakily stood up, his eyes flickering with a sinister purple glow, picked up a brick and smashed it down on another elder beside him, snarling as he did so, "You old fart always take back your moves when we play chess. I’ve put up with you for a long time."

On the other side, a seemingly simple and honest young man pulled off his belt and strangled the woman in front of him, yanking hard and saying, "You whore borrowed two thousand bucks from me, always claiming you’re strapped for cash. How long can you be strapped, five years?"

"You heartbreaker, to think you’ve been sneaking around behind my back to see that mistress!"

"Your family raises chickens in the yard. It stinks to high heaven!"

Not only the adults were affected, but a child nibbling on a lollipop poked the candy stick into his mother’s ear...

Everyone seemed to have gone mad, dredging up old grudges to exact bloody revenge.

The Hateful Demon Monster was born from the townspeople’s hate and vengeance. Its essence would make ordinary people view any slight friction as irreconcilable hostility, and such enmity demanded blood as recompense.

Clenching his teeth, Wen Wen said to the people around him, "Knock them out!"

Tao Qingqing and the Puppets all joined the fray to subdue the townspeople, but they seemed impossible to knock out. Even if their heads swelled from beatings or their necks broke, they remained very lucid, nursing their grudges and fixating on revenge.

"If this continues, there might not be many survivors left here. Even the people present can only control about a hundred at most, but there are thousands here!"

Wen Wen took a deep breath, a hint of ruthlessness appearing in his eyes, "If that’s the case... there’s only one way. Although it will cause them some harm, it can at least save their lives!"

"Hateful Demon Monster... I will make you loathe your very existence in this world!"
