Chapter 555: Chapter 553 Assassin Barcode
Hundreds of meters away, the avatar of the Moon Goddess materialized within the moonlight, her complexion slightly pale.
This body, after all, was an avatar formed by her hairpin, and the silver crescent contained a part of her strength; after giving it away, her power weakened a bit.
But she didn’t mind that, as her main body and the avatar shared thoughts and feelings, allowing the main body to sense everything the avatar could.
To the main body, the existence of the avatar was dispensable. If she could figure out the strange feeling between herself and Wen Wen, the loss of this avatar would be insignificant to the Moon Goddess.
...
The bald assassin ’Barcode’ walked expressionlessly through the streets at night.
In his organization, each assassin was given only a numerical code, not a name, hence the organization was called ’Coding Organization.’
Barcode’s code was two-five-zero, which he disliked; after striving to become part of the organization’s upper echelon, he changed his code to Barcode.
Now the old hotel had been attacked by Absurd Words, and it was no longer safe; he needed a new place to hide.
But there was one trouble, the strange guest from room 315. Ever since the old hotel, that person relentlessly followed him.
This peculiar guest was much more powerful than Barcode had estimated; no matter how he tried to escape, he was still able to stay at his heels.
To Barcode, this person’s strength might not be far off from Ti Qin’s, but why would such a mysterious and powerful stranger target him?
Suddenly, Faceless stopped in his tracks, and then, a black door appeared beside him; Wen Wen, clad in a black robe, stepped out from the doorway.
"Welcome back, my esteemed master," Faceless said, kneeling on one knee.
Apart from Magic Mirror Gidro, Faceless and several other demons were blatantly sycophantic toward Wen Wen, their loyalty barely existing, but they were also without dignity.
Barcode was shocked to see Wen Wen; Faceless’s power alone had left him with no ability to fight back. How much more powerful must this person called the esteemed master be?
"You’ve done well, you may go back."
With a wave of his hand, Wen Wen made Faceless disappear into thin air, and at the same time, his own black robe disappeared, revealing the disguise that Faceless had been maintaining.
Then Wen Wen walked up to Barcode and showed him a chilling smile, cutting straight to the point, "The reason Absurd Words attacked the old hotel is probably because of that thing you took, right?"
"Let me guess... inside that briefcase, it must be the ’Sword Qi Crystal’ left by the ancestors of The Xun Family, right?"
Barcode instinctively moved the bag in his hands behind him and exclaimed in surprise, "How did you know about the Sword Qi Crystal?"
"I got it out of an ugly, round-faced Clown."
"I’m really curious, you’re just a Disaster Level assassin; how dare you intercept something from Absurd Words?"
Barcode grimly responded, "That thing was never theirs to begin with; it belongs to us..."
As soon as Wen Wen heard this, his spirits lifted, and while snacking on a packet of dried mango, he probed, "Your words seem to hint at a story; go on, I love stories, the bloodier the better."
Barcode fell silent for a while. He didn’t want to speak of his affairs to this outsider, Wen Wen, but he had no way of resisting Wen Wen’s strength.
"There was once a powerful assassins’ organization known as the Shadow Assassin, adept at using cold weapons for assassinations."
"Over a hundred years ago, they could even influence the political and economic lifeblood of a large region. The Federation was able to smoothly unify the world partly due to the Shadow Assassin pushing things along from behind."
"But as firearms rose to prominence and superpower users increased, the operations of the Shadow Assassin gradually fell out of step with the times and they became the forsaken children of an era."
"Our Coding Organization is a remnant of the Shadow Assassin."
Wen Wen tossed two pieces of dried mango to Barcode and said, "Don’t be shy, eat up. Sounds like your background isn’t so modest."
This attitude, as if he were watching a play, caused veins to bulge on Barcode’s forehead, but he had no choice but to continue his story.
"We learned from the lessons of the Assassin League and no longer follow the ancient traditions, actively training our members in the use of firearms and recruiting superpower users to become assassins."
"But ultimately we couldn’t adapt to this era, our power waned day by day, and we could only take on ordinary tasks to maintain the organization’s existence."
"Half a month ago, we received a commission from Absurd Words, asking us to steal this Sword Qi Crystal from the Xun-style Cemetery."
"Initially, we refused, but... but the money they offered was simply too much!"
"Moreover, once we refused, we would be attacked by them, so in the end, we still took on the task. I led some of the most outstanding assassins from ’Code’ to carry it out."
"Unexpectedly, the defenses of the Xun Family Tomb were much weaker than we had imagined, and we easily stole the Sword Qi Crystal."
Barcode’s face twisted viciously, "But just as my team was about to hand over the Sword Qi Crystal to Absurd Words, we were ambushed by them. Only I barely escaped, while everyone else died in the ambush."
"After escaping back to Code, I discovered the organization had all but collapsed. The main combat forces were all out on missions, and those left behind were controlled by Absurd Words."
"The former vice president became the president, and Code became a sub-organization under Absurd Words. All the opposition was wiped out..."
"So I took the Sword Qi Crystal and fled. If I can unravel the secrets of this Sword Qi Crystal, I could use it to counterstrike against Absurd Words!"
Barcode glanced at Wen Wen and said, "You must also be after the Sword Qi Crystal. With my strength, I can’t protect such a thing. It’s better to just give it to you, as long as you let me leave safely."
After speaking, he decisively tossed the box in his hand to Wen Wen without any hesitation.
Wen Wen took the box, not opening it, but instead asked with a puzzled expression, "You’re just giving us this box like that?"
Barcode said as if it were a matter of course, "I’m very afraid of dying. Since you’re stronger than me, there’s no need for me to cling desperately to it—that’d be seeking death..."
He hadn’t finished speaking when Wen Wen directly tossed the box into the air, then a streak of firelight shot past. The box immediately exploded with a force comparable to a cloud bomb.
The sudden turn of events caused Barcode, who was speaking, to stiffen his expression.
Wen Wen sneered, "The box was rigged with a bomb. As soon as I opened it, the bomb would explode, and you’d take the chance to run away, right?"
"No matter your skills as an assassin, you definitely aren’t as slick with bombs as I am."
"Wow, how could the Sword Qi Crystal explode like that? I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying."
Barcode smiled foolishly at Wen Wen as if he didn’t know what had happened, while cold sweat trickled down his forehead as he laughed.
