Chapter 544: Chapter 542: The Quirky Old Hotel

Wen Wen received room card 315 and, as he walked upstairs, he simply observed that each floor was different.

The second floor’s corridor appeared somewhat filthy, with very densely packed doors—at least sixty rooms.

The dim lighting was swarming with flying insects, and a bare-chested bald guest walked out of the restroom, giving Wen Wen a fierce glare.

"Tch, even the restroom is communal."

Comparatively, the third floor where Wen Wen was to stay was much cleaner, with about thirty rooms.

At the entrance to the fourth floor, a hooded old woman whose eyes were not visible was on guard, so Wen Wen did not go up, but he could tell that the decor on the fourth floor was much better than on the third floor, and the lodging fee was likely much higher as well.

After entering, Wen Wen found that his strength was substantially restrained, and the power he could use was about that of someone just entering the Disaster Level.

His inspiration was also somewhat suppressed, his perception mostly limited to a few meters around him, making it hard to grasp the overall situation of the hotel.

If he wanted to exert his full power, he could do so, but the old hotel’s barrier would then collapse or rebound, which would likely make it difficult for him to continue living here peacefully.

However, Wen Wen didn’t mind; the more peculiar the arrangements here were, the more he could deduce Master Red Beard’s true intentions from them.

As a detective, Wen Wen always liked cases that seemed elaborate— not only were they more interesting to solve, but it was also easier to find clues in substance.

If he encountered a murderer who acted on impulse, killed someone, and then immediately fled, it would be far more troublesome.

As soon as he opened the door to his room, Wen Wen smelled a pungent musty odor and had no choice but to open the windows to air out the room, while at the same time looking through the window at the layout of the entire old hotel.

"Ten thousand yuan a day, the least they could do is not make the accommodations too shabby. At least there’s an en suite bathroom on the third floor... Alright, never mind."

Wen Wen sighed as he closed the door to the restroom and took out several nails to thoroughly nail it shut.

The restroom’s light was broken, and on the exposed wire hung a rat about a foot long, staring at Wen Wen with lifeless eyes...

"Insisting on staying here, am I not just making life difficult for myself?"

Next, Wen Wen searched the room and found a number of things that would make the average person scream, all of which he casually threw out the window.

He then called out the puppet with long black hair from the Sanctuary and had her start cleaning the room from scratch.

Wen Wen himself stepped out of his room, beginning to stroll around the old hotel.

Although he didn’t have a mania for cleanliness, he did not wish to stay in that room that day; it was a good opportunity to gather some intelligence.

A perception range of just a few meters was enough for Wen Wen to ’see’ through doors with his inspiration.

On the third floor, most of the residents kept their doors tightly locked, as if Wen Wen was the only person there, but inside, the guests were not being quiet.

Some had installed tripwire bombs at their doors, others sat on stools with guns pointed at the door, and some simply lay under the bed, pretending no one was in the room.

Most of them were being hunted, each had a compelling story, and even though this place was known for its absolute safety, it couldn’t make them feel at ease.

However, most of them were just ordinary people, and despite their bizarre behavior, they were not worth Wen Wen’s attention.

The only two people worth Wen Wen’s attention on the entire third floor were just two individuals.

One of them was staying in a room on the edge of the third floor, dressed in a suit, bald, his head adorned with a dozen barcode tattoos, his expression stern.

He, too, was a guest like Wen Wen, occasionally stepping out of his room to take a walk down the corridor before returning.

The aura around this person was peculiar, his strength likely at the Disaster Level, but Wen Wen was unclear about his background.

Another was a cleaning lady on the second floor, her arms severed at the forearms and replaced with two metal rods, attached to which were special brooms and mops.

This cleaning lady also possessed Disaster Level strength yet was not human, appearing unoppressed within the hotel and possibly in possession of a Superpower Item from Master Red Beard—a trouble in itself, maybe.

After seeing these two individuals, Wen Wen’s curiosity about this old hotel grew, prompting him to continue his exploration up and down the floors.

After a brief investigation, Wen Wen found that, including the bucktooth on the first floor, there were at least five staff members at the hotel with Disaster Level strength.

Counting the special guests, there were over a dozen people or Monsters with Disaster Level strength.

Plus, with a Disaster Upper Order powerhouse as the enforcer, the influence here could actually crush the local Demon Hunter squad.

Individuals like the bald man, who even Wen Wen felt might pose a trouble, weren’t the only Disaster Level beings here.

And this was merely one of Master Red Beard’s openly known assets; the forces he concealed in the shadows were likely even more astonishing.

However, this influence alone could not explain why the Association hadn’t taken action against Red Beard. Sending just a Mid-Sequel Ranger over could easily dismantle this old hotel.

Without clarifying the situation, Wen Wen would certainly not confront Red Beard’s forces openly with his Ranger identity.

It’s worth noting that when Wen Wen returned from his investigation, the bald man’s look towards Wen Wen was quite unfriendly.

A person avoiding assassination, yet so carefree to stroll around the hotel, was indeed suspicious.

Wen Wen didn’t mind and returned to his room.

To gather more information, observation alone was insufficient, so Wen Wen’s first target for investigation was the receptionist, Chai Yun.

As a normal human, she represented the weakest link here. Although she might not know any critical information, her exposure during work might provide some clues.

She did not work twenty-four hours a day; when Wen Wen had paid earlier, he noticed a work schedule. If that schedule was accurate, she would get off at five o’clock in the afternoon.

After finishing work, whether she lived at the hotel or somewhere else, Wen Wen planned to find her and ask some questions.

While waiting, Wen Wen entered the Sanctuary, first heading to the Disaster Area to implant chains in the Faceless Demon.

He might need to resort to some violent actions but didn’t want to expose his identity, so releasing the Faceless Demon to create a diversion was necessary.

The Faceless Demon could mimic Wen Wen’s appearance and take his place staying at the hotel.

As for strength issues after not using the Faceless Demon, Wen Wen needn’t worry, as the Shark Warrior’s injuries had healed!

That’s right, the only Disaster Upper Order Monster in the Sanctuary, the Shark Warrior from Oye Water City, was now able to endure the Sanctuary’s squeezing.

Although slightly weaker than before, he still was a genuine Disaster Upper Order Monster!
