Chapter 529: Chapter 527: The Story of Guo Shengye

Continuing forward, Wen Wen found himself facing a room filled with mirrors.

The rooms in the other cubes, just like arbitrary slices of the real world, came to an abrupt halt along a certain line, giving way to another style.

But this room seemed to have been meticulously crafted, fitting even more with the style of this colossal labyrinth.

Each mirror in the room was like a movie screen, playing different scenes with the Mirror Nightmare and Guo Shengye as their respective protagonists.

Wen Wen raised an eyebrow and mused to himself, "What is the Mirror Nightmare trying to do, recount their tragic stories in order to move me?"

Nevertheless, Wen Wen still went inside, ready to see what tricks the Mirror Nightmare was up to.

Contrary to Wen Wen’s expectations, the Mirror Nightmare sat right in the middle of the room, with a chair opposite him, but Wen Wen did not sit down.

"In your terms, I come from the Inner World, and hundreds of years ago, I did something in the Inner World and was sealed inside a mirror."

"Later, I was brought into this world by a monster, and after several twists and turns, I ended up in the home of Guo Shengye, who was still a child."

Since the Mirror Nightmare had entered storytelling mode, Wen Wen didn’t intend to interrupt him. Understanding more about them would help Wen Wen take them down.

"He really was a very tragic man, who loved drawing comics since childhood, but wasn’t favored by his family. After failing to get into college after high school, he refused to find a job and persisted in drawing comics, which led to him being kicked out of his home."

"Fortunately, he had a supportive girlfriend who provided him a Haven, allowing him to persist. The girlfriend worked and Guo Shengye did odd jobs, barely making ends meet together."

"He worked intensely on his comics, sending them to different editors, but always receiving the same response."

"Finally one day, he got the approval of an editor, but after he sent his work over, the editor died in a car accident, and the hard-earned hope came to nothing once more."

"In pain, Guo Shengye went to a bar to drown his sorrows with alcohol, but when he was dead drunk, he found his girlfriend entertaining guests in the bar..."

Wen Wen, listening to the tale, couldn’t help but smack his lips; this guy really had bad luck. He didn’t know how to judge the situation anymore.

"That night, Guo Shengye said some harsh words. After sobering up from the alcohol, he inquired at the bar and found out his girlfriend had only been entertaining and had done nothing more."

"At that moment, Guo Shengye realized his girlfriend might have been trying to earn extra money to keep his dream alive."

"When he went to apologize to his girlfriend, he found she had already hung herself, her body was already cold..."

"From that point on, Guo Shengye changed... He started to betray his own ideals, incessantly tormenting himself."

With each word the Mirror Nightmare spoke, the mirrors flashed corresponding images, allowing Wen Wen to feel the full extent of Guo Shengye’s despair.

Wen Wen would never speak ill of another’s dreams, but in the entire process, the only thing commendable about Guo Shengye was his persistence.

As for the rest, he had not been a good son, nor a good boyfriend.

Moreover, he had now turned to drawing books with human souls, which indicated he had long deviated from his dream.

What he now wanted was simply recognition for his work, a kind of pathological vanity.

"I was with him his entire early life, accompanying him in the mirror; he was always aware of my existence."

"I understood his dreams and pursuits, and he understood my hundreds of years of loneliness and pain from being sealed."

"So we made a deal to support each other, I taught him how to use human blood and other things to Contaminate the mirror that sealed me, I broke free from the mirror, and made a pact with him..."

Wen Wen’s head began to ache listening to this, so he raised his hand and said, "Hold on a moment, something about this story doesn’t seem right."

Mirror Nightmare asked, puzzled, "What’s wrong?"

"Why do I get the feeling that it’s you two who’ve been spending all their time together, developing feelings, and then decided to commit to each other for life?"

The thought of two Guo Shengye’s tangled up together made Wen Wen feel somewhat nauseous.

But once he thought of it, the image just wouldn’t leave his mind.

"If you want to put it that way... there’s no problem with that," Mirror Nightmare said with a blush.

Wen Wen covered his mouth to keep his expression from becoming too fierce, "Inside and outside the mirror, human and monster, man and male monster... you guys are really into some hardcore stuff."

It seemed that losing his girlfriend had indeed been a massive blow to Guo Shengye, twisting him into this state.

"What are you talking about? This is my true form."

Mirror Nightmare gave Wen Wen a disdainful glance and then her body transformed like mercury, turning into a silver-haired woman, who was actually quite good-looking.

"Oh, you’re actually a woman... Then this is rather uninteresting."

Wen Wen’s expression returned to normal, looking at Mirror Nightmare with dead fish eyes, "It seems you’re trying to fill the void of Guo Shengye’s girlfriend, but as a female monster, supporting him with women’s souls for his drawings... That’s really beyond my comprehension."

Mirror Nightmare snorted coldly, offering no explanation to Wen Wen.

Wen Wen sighed. A monster was still a monster. She might harbor a sympathy or even love for one particular human.

But expecting her to view other humans as equals was simply impossible.

After a brief sense of poignancy, Wen Wen frustratingly ruffled his hair, "No, no, I came here to battle monsters, how did it turn into a prime-time melodrama scene?"

"What are you trying to get at with all this? If you can’t make it clear, I’m going to start throwing punches," he said.

Mirror Nightmare stood up, and all the images in the mirrors disappeared.

"You’re a powerful human, if we keep fighting we might both end up in a bad way. Shengye doesn’t want to see this fight continue, so I can give you what you want."

"We can give back the souls of those girls to you."

"And Shengye and I will move to another city to live. I can promise you that I won’t help Shengye steal girls’ souls anymore. I’ll help him achieve his dreams through legitimate means..."

"As long as you stop your pursuit of us right here."

Wen Wen tilted his head, looking seriously at the expression on Mirror Nightmare’s face, then took a few steps back, silently calculating.

For Mirror Nightmare to propose such terms, she was clearly showing submission.

Wen Wen’s approach had made her sense an impending failure. Although she had a trump card, she didn’t have the confidence to beat Wen Wen.

Anyone else would have accepted these conditions.

A powerful and bizarre monster willing to stop harming humans without a fight to the death was the best possible outcome.

But was Wen Wen’s goal to stop Mirror Nightmare from doing evil?

No, Wen Wen was simply coveting her power!
