Chapter 468: Chapter 466 Wen Wen’s Invitation

Indeed, Lin Huan was a superpower user.

His ability was to construct illusions, especially adept at exploiting a person’s fear within those illusions, bringing about a haunting sense of terror that made opponents flee.

This was exactly how he had managed to deceive the Demon Hunters who came to investigate, making them believe he was a fraud.

However, if he hadn’t actually never dealt with a monster before, the Demon Hunters wouldn’t have been so easily deceived.

Although he possessed the ability to create illusions, he lacked the power to kill enemies within them, so he could only scare the monsters away to protect his clients, without being able to truly eliminate them.

The thing he gave to Gu Dafei before wasn’t really an amulet, but it was indeed something special. The scent of the amulet combined with his power could put an ordinary person to sleep.

Only with Gu Dafei unconscious and not causing any trouble could he fully operate, using fear to drive away what brought fear.

He opened this detective agency with both the intent to protect people and the idea to make money. Therefore, he had different charging standards for different customers.

Each color of the amulet symbolized a different price tier, solving a problem for a rich person would cost at least tens of thousands, and for those without money, he would offer a cheaper amulet, acting just once for a thousand or eight hundred yuan, considering it good karma.

As for being boycotted because of his arbitrary charges...

He wasn’t afraid of that at all—all the amulets he gave were different, the services were distinct, so of course the prices differentiated.

Then, Lin Huan took out a small spray bottle and spritzed it on each of the exorcism items Gu Dafei had bought before stuffing Gu Dafei’s somewhat overweight body back under the bed, placing his own luxurious gold-colored amulet right in the center above him.

After finishing his tasks, Lin Huan gently tapped Gu Dafei’s forehead before quietly slipping away.

Shortly after Lin Huan left, Gu Dafei groggily opened his eyes and immediately saw the luxurious gold-colored amulet.

At that moment, in Gu Dafei’s eyes, this amulet emanated an enchanting golden glow, while the other exorcism tools he had bought at a high price now looked filthy and unworthy.

"The Supernatural Detective Agency... they really didn’t deceive me."

Then Gu Dafei looked at the time. Midnight had long passed, and that woman hadn’t come knocking again. He revealed a relieved smile.

Since he had seemingly survived this great peril, he would go to pay Lin Huan the final payment tomorrow. He couldn’t default on someone with real abilities.

As for now, it was best to have a good sleep. He hadn’t had a proper rest for several nights.

...

Lin Huan walked back to his detective agency assured that the money was in the bag after everything was arranged. He had conducted this type of business many times before, and it felt like second nature to him.

However, his expression didn’t seem very happy. He had only scared away the female resentful spirit. She dared not harm Gu Dafei but could still fixate on someone else.

In the end, all Lin Huan did was shift the monster’s target elsewhere.

Lin Huan muttered to himself, feeling helpless, "Ah... if only my powers were stronger, this feeling of helplessness is getting quite enough; I’ve also made almost enough money. Maybe I should find a place to retire early..."

"You’re still young. There’s no need to retire so early. Why not come work for me? I can make you no longer feel helpless,"

A man’s voice suddenly rang out, causing the hairs on the back of Lin Huan’s neck to stand on end. There was no warning before the voice appeared, catching him off guard.

He looked in the direction of the voice and saw a mysterious figure sitting on a roadside seat, clad in a strange black robe—it was he who had been speaking to Lin Huan!

This man was none other than Wen Wen, who was busy preparing to recruit new Containment Officers, with Lin Huan being merely one of his targets.

"Who are you?" Lin Huan asked warily.

"I am your future boss. I’ve seen everything you just did, and it was quite interesting. That’s why I’m here to invite you to become my employee."

Wen Wen spoke with an appreciative expression. Before he acquired the Catastrophe Containment Facility, he had thought about opening a small detective agency to help people solve problems while also taking a chunk of money from the wealthier clients.

Lin Huan’s face showed a mix of emotions. This fellow who had suddenly appeared was too eerie. He said he had seen Lin Huan’s earlier performance, which meant he had been under observation the whole time without realizing it.

"And if I don’t agree?"

Wen Wen simply shrugged and replied, "Nothing much. I’m not a bad guy, so I won’t harm you, but it’d be better for you to hear my offer before you reject me."

"What’s the offer?"

"I’m aware of the predicament you find yourself in. Your power has not fully awakened; aside from creating illusions, you are as vulnerable as any ordinary person. But I can make you fully awaken!"

Fully awaken...

Lin Huan’s expression remained unchanged, yet inside he was battling intensely—he dreamt of having the power to fight back.

If he weren’t aware of the Superpower World’s existence, he would not be dissatisfied with his abilities, but knowing what the world was truly like, Lin Huan was never content with merely frightening people without the capability to harm them.

"The awakening you mentioned—how is it done?"

"All you need to do is sign a contract to join us. The contract’s power is sufficient to awaken the other half of your dormant abilities." Wen Wen had known this information when he chose to recruit Lin Huan.

Lin Huan pondered for a moment before asking Wen Wen, "How do I know you’re not a con artist?"

Wen Wen started to smile and then displayed his Qi.

Lin Huan instantly realized his own insignificance. Just for a flash, he felt like an ant under Wen Wen’s fingertip, easily crushed with a light press.

This was genuine fear, completely distinct from the terror he fabricated with illusions—because the man opposite him was real!

"Our Catastrophe Containment Facility’s purpose is to maintain the balance between two worlds, capturing supernatural creatures and items causing trouble in the real world. By joining us, you can have power far beyond what you possess now."

"Honestly, I see great potential in you, but the decision to join is yours to make. I’ll leave the contract with you. Once you sign it, you’ll become a member of the Catastrophe Containment Facility."

After saying this, a black gate materialized, and Wen Wen walked into it with poise.

Lin Huan watched Wen Wen disappear, his expression incredibly conflicted.

Out of rationality, he didn’t want to join an unknown organization simply because of a few words from a stranger. The world was full of dangers, and one misstep could lead to an irreversible descent into the Abyss.

Yet, he didn’t want to continue living in a daze. Thus, he found himself caught in a dilemma, wandering aimlessly on the night streets.
