Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 458 - 456: Dividing the Spoils of War
Chapter 458: Chapter 456: Dividing the Spoils of War
Walking on the street, Wen Wen was practically a sign saying "strangers not welcome." Whenever he caught the eye of any ordinary person peeking out the window, they were sure to avert their gaze.
This was not because Wen Wen looked particularly ferocious, but because the people of this city were too unsettled.
The superpower users fighting to the death, massive toxic explosions, rampant murderers, and fierce monsters with hideous appearance, wild storms raging...
All of these recent events had exceeded the psychological limits of the citizens of Hua Shan City. Instead of facing these demon yao and ghoul-like figures, they wished that the ones who came to Hua Shan City were simply a group of thugs.
At least that they could understand.
Apart from the patrolling Supporters and the military, it was almost impossible to see ordinary people on the streets. They all hid in their homes, peeking at this already unrecognizable city through their windows.
The citizens feared everyone who was different from them, whether it was a Demon Hunter trying to save them or a bloodthirsty killer.
They could not tell the difference between these two, so they could only be wary of everyone.
The atmosphere of the city made Wen Wen feel somewhat oppressed. If this continued for long, the city itself might also breed terrible evils.
Just the discovery of the existence of the Superpower World by one city had turned into this sorry state; Wen Wen found it difficult to imagine what sort of horrific effect it would cause when all the ordinary people of the entire world learned the truth about the world.
The emotions of people have strength; when vast negative emotions accumulate, it is possible to attract certain things from the Inner World.
Not to mention anything else, ever since Wen Wen began handling the cleanup work, it could be seen from the data that the frequency of new Monster appearances in Hua Shan City was far higher than before.
The number of parasitic hosts had decreased, but the quantity of other monsters began to rise noticeably, with people snapping under the bizarre atmosphere every moment, as well as the Undead from the Gray Mist Layer being summoned by despair.
Now Wen Wen deeply realized the necessity of erasing memories, recognizing the terrifying and cruel side of the world.
At least in regards to matters related to Supernatural Power, truth was poison to the public!
Wen Wen had been continuously busy for two days before a new Ranger came to take over his work, affording him some respite.
With the concerted efforts of many Demon Hunters, it is estimated that in two or three more days, the situation in Hua Shan City would stabilize slightly, and then they could begin the work of erasing memories.
Once everyone’s memories of the Superpower World were erased, life would return to normal.
Meanwhile, Wen Wen found Chu Wei, as he had some items to settle with Chu Wei.
Previously, Wen Wen had used Chu Wei’s Undying Body to cheat Wu Wang out of a few Containment Items. They had agreed to split the spoils fifty-fifty, and he did not plan to renege, so he sought out Chu Wei.
When he explained the entire process to Chu Wei, Chu Wei’s eyes lit up with Jin Guang.
"Heh heh, next time you have something like this, remember to tell me more details. I guarantee the guy won’t see the problem and you won’t end up with just four Containment Items," said Chu Wei.
At the same time, Chu Wei was also calculating inwardly, thinking he could use this method to find an opportunity to swindle others.
Ignoring Chu Wei’s scheming thoughts, Wen Wen took out the Containment Items he had obtained from Wu Wang and laid them out in front of Chu Wei one by one.
They were a shield, a pill bottle, a coin, and a piece of Battle-axe Steak—that was what Wen Wen had deceived from Wu Wang.
Wen Wen first picked up the shield and said, "This shield is called the ’Target Eye Shield.’ The target pattern on it compels people to attack the shield as their first target involuntarily. You could walk through a hail of bullets with this little round shield and not a single one would hit you."
"Moreover, this shield can reflect disaster-level attacks and to some extent, reduce the damage from attacks above that level. The downside is that holding this shield will make you the target of enemy fire..."
After hearing about the shield’s attributes, Chu Wei was unenthusiastic. He was undying, so what did he need a shield for?
Then Wen Wen picked up the second item, a bottle of pills, with the words written on it: "Learn to Curse, Ultimate Pleasure!"
Wen Wen chuckled and explained to Chu Wei, "This bottle will automatically produce one pill per day and stop once it accumulates ten pills."
"After taking this pill, you will gain an extraordinary ability to curse at people, making you invincible in verbal fights. However, the side effect is that your mouth will become incredibly foul-smelling for an hour, and even brushing your teeth immediately will not help."
When Chu Wei saw the pills, his eyes lit up. This was perfect for him; he loved cursing people!
"If you don’t want this one, I’ll take it!"
Wen Wen nodded and tossed the bottle to him. Chu Wei wanted it, which was just as well. Wen Wen didn’t like cursing people; he preferred to get straight to action.
Plus, the side effect of bad breath was quite terrifying in its own right. Each pill came with a different flavor of foul breath.
Some tasted like steaming durian, others like disinfectant, and some like feces...
"The third item is this coin."
Wen Wen carefully held the coin in his hand and showed it to Chu Wei. One side had a muscular man, while the other side featured a bolt of lightning.
"This coin is called the Lucky Coin, which only those with enough luck can utilize properly. Just toss it into the air, and when it lands, the outcome will be determined."
"If it lands on the man’s side, you can randomly enhance one of your attributes for a short period. If it lands on the lightning side, a thunderbolt will strike you on the head instantly."
"Also, it should be noted that it’s possible for the coin to land on its edge, so it’s best to wrap it in something to keep it from moving freely."
Chu Wei was somewhat interested in the coin but still wanted to see the fourth item. He was curious to know what kind of containment item the steak was considered.
"Ah, this steak is called the Battle-axe Steak, and as the name implies, it can be used both as a battle axe and as a steak..."
"When used as an axe, it’s equivalent to having a superpower battle-axe, suitable for chopping trees, monsters, or people. As for eating, it’s just like a real steak, that you can cook and eat, and a new steak will grow back on the bone by the next day."
"Oh, and there’s a layer of cling film on the newly grown steak, so you don’t need to worry about getting it dirty while chopping people and then being unable to eat it. This thing seems to have no side effects."
Chu Wei looked at the steak with a weird expression; he definitely didn’t want this thing. Carrying it around and using it to chop people would be utterly embarrassing.
The two then negotiated, and in the end, Chu Wei took the Lucky Coin and the Foul-mouthed Pills, while Wen Wen got the Battle-axe Steak and the Target Eye Shield.
Although these two items weren’t of much use to Wen Wen, they were entertaining enough, and for Wen Wen, being fun was all that mattered.
After distributing the spoils of war, Wen Wen took a deep breath; now, he was off to tend to another matter...
