Chapter 420: Chapter 418 Seeking Thrills

The corpse was covered with dense, writhing spines, the tips of which had all been cut off by the Demon Hunter with scissors to prevent medical personnel from being stabbed by them.

Inside the dissected abdominal cavity lay an abundance of golden-yellow glandular tissue, which were the reproductive glands of sea urchins.

Beyond these glands, there was also some blackish-red nauseating liquid, and as for the human organs themselves, they had shrunk to a size even smaller than those of chickens and ducks.

The scent of seafood, unique and fresh, wafted from the dissected body, making Wen Wen feel somewhat nauseous. He was now extremely grateful that he hadn’t eaten any sea urchins at the restaurant back then.

The doctors were dissecting and discussing fervently at the same time. They were at a loss even when facing such a patient; with the organs shriveled up like that, there was no way to save them.

So, their main concern now was how to save the patients whose infection was not too severe.

After briefly observing, Wen Wen left the yard and began searching for the information he needed.

No matter where, when the Hunters Association set up a camp, there were standard specifications. Thus, Wen Wen sneaked into the prefab house and began to covertly review the documents about the epidemic.

The doctors had named this epidemic Sea Urchin Syndrome!

The spikes on the patients carried a special virus that, once it entered the bloodstream, would cause the infection. This virus had not been found on wild sea urchins.

The doctors had already developed a vaccine for the disease, but there was still no cure for those already afflicted.

Superpower users had an incredibly strong resistance to the virus, and so far, there had been no cases of infection among them.

All the residents of Biyi Town had been infected with the virus...

Wen Wen felt a wave of discomfort just looking at the patient records, which was even more unsettling to him than facing a life-or-death crisis.

He could hardly imagine the despair of those people who were gradually turning into sea urchins.

Wen Wen had always avoided dealing with such cases because he felt very unsuited to this kind of work. The cases he had handled were the kind that could be resolved simply and brutally: crush the troublemakers and the problem would naturally be solved.

But many supernatural cases weren’t so easily resolved. Scenarios as hellish as this current epidemic were the norm when the Inner World invaded the real world.

Incredibly cruel, and just as real and terrifying!

While looking through the patient records, Wen Wen’s mood grew extremely heavy, and it seemed as if he slipped into a strange state.

Suddenly, he felt his temples begin to swell, his heart thumping violently, his skin turning slightly red, as if something was trying to burst forth from deep within his body, ready to bloom!

Wen Wen was thrilled; this might be the sign of the awakening of Supernatural Power!

But unfortunately, the sign seemed not strong enough, as the sensation quickly disappeared without a trace, and reading the documents no longer aroused any urge in Wen Wen.

After hesitating for a while, Wen Wen put down the unfinished documents and rubbed his forehead.

"It seems I’ve come to the right place, but to awaken the Supernatural Power, this level of stimulation isn’t enough. I should go deeper into that town and take a look."

So, Wen Wen left the Hunters Association’s camp without hesitation, no longer looking at any of the prepared materials the Association had organized.

Having prior knowledge of what’s there couldn’t give Wen Wen enough of a stimulus; it’s the unknown that is the most terrifying.

Next, Wen Wen found a piece of black fabric to cover himself with, preparing to head to the center of Biyi Town.

With a simple disguise, his normal appearance wouldn’t attract the attention of the infected.

Around Biyi Town, Supporter who were armed to the teeth and wearing protective suits, carrying riot shields, had completely surrounded the town center, not allowing the patients within to come and go as they pleased.

"It seems that the abilities of these infected are not strong; they can be suppressed just by the Supporters..."

However, it was clear that their protection was not foolproof, as the old man Wen Wen had encountered before must have been from this town.

Taking advantage of a gap, Wen Wen easily slipped into the town, and upon entering, he felt his mood inexplicably darken—the people here were already shrouded in immense despair.

This despair was so distinct that Wen Wen could feel it clearly even without his monster physique.

Human emotions all carry strength; one person is insignificant, but when thousands share the same emotion, that power becomes quite noticeable.

There were no Supporters in the town, and just like the old man who had tried to attack Wen Wen, it seemed everyone here probably harbored the desire to attack others.

Having become like this themselves, they wished for others to become the same.

Wen Wen couldn’t tell whether this was driven by the virus or if it was the dark side of human nature exposed by despair.

On the main street, both men and women were seated outside their doors on chairs, greedily soaking up the sun, with more or fewer terrifying spikes protruding from their bodies.

Next to each person was a small bucket; when those spikes dried out, they would pour water over them. It seemed that these ’urchinized’ bodies needed constant watering to remain vital.

The sight of so many people sitting on the street waiting for death made Wen Wen feel somewhat choked up, but he had seen the information beforehand, so it was not enough to shock him substantially.

Even covered with the black fabric, Wen Wen still attracted the attention of the sunbathing infected as he walked down the main street.

Two townsfolk whose ’urchinization’ was more severe than the patient dissected by the medical team stood up from their chairs and walked toward Wen Wen.

Their limbs were already starting to degenerate, and long black spikes assisted their movements, leaving behind marks as if they had been stung by a spiked tool wherever they went.

It appeared that the marks Wen Wen had seen earlier were left by patients who had progressed to this stage.

Seeing the spikes coming at him, Wen Wen squinted his eyes and, with a tip of his toe, leaped high, avoiding the two’s lunge.

But his avoidance seemed to have angered the infected; the townspeople came at him slowly, aiming to pierce Wen Wen with their spikes.

Their movements were very slow, and Wen Wen easily dodged them; even with overwhelming numbers, they couldn’t catch him.

After dodging for a while, a gleam flickered in Wen Wen’s eyes, then he suddenly stopped, allowing a ’urchinized’ young girl to cling to him!

He gently patted her back, seemingly comforting the poor girl.

The girl did not react to Wen Wen’s gesture; after holding Wen Wen for a short while, she leisurely left his side and returned to her spot in front of her door to continue sunbathing.

And the rest of the ’urchins’ also calmed down.
