Chapter 398: 396 Truth Society tickets
Wen Rui adjusted his attire, walked to face Wen Wen, placed his right hand over his heart, and made a complex hand gesture, bowing slightly as he said, "Since you are not Wen Wen, I must have been somewhat disrespectful just now."
"It seems you do not know much about us, so allow me to briefly introduce ourselves. We are followers of knowledge and wisdom, explorers of mysteries and rules, servants of the omniscient and omnipotent god who creates and governs the laws of all things in the world."
"We are—The Truth Society!"
The Truth Society, the omniscient and omnipotent god...
Wen Wen secretly clicked his tongue, the entities revered by these secret organizations had quite exaggerated names.
The Glory Church worshipped the creator, the followers of Profane Blood believed in the Supreme Overlord, behind Clown Grandi was the Great Mother, and the Master of Dead Silence and Empty Underworld caused the Wen Li incident...
It wasn’t just that the titles were complex, but they also possessed incomprehensible power, so much so that even at Wen Wen’s level, he dared not utter their revered names!
Could it be that there was an entity with such power behind Wen Rui’s organization as well?
However, even with this knowledge, Wen Wen felt no awe, as he had once cursed the grand entity behind Profane Blood in front of the president of the Capital Hunters Association to prove his "innocence and purity."
"Now that I have introduced myself, I hope you can tell me where you come from."
After speaking, Wen Rui calmly looked at Wen Wen, his demeanor gentle as if he were a schoolteacher.
With a somber expression, Wen Wen said, "We are... Black Cross!"
"Black Cross..."
Wen Rui’s gaze shifted slightly, but his face revealed no emotion:
"I do not know why you attacked this museum, but we are merely scholars who do not wish to blindly engage in conflict with another Catastrophe-level entity. If possible, I would like for us to maintain some relative peace."
Wen Wen gave Wen Rui a deep look, seemingly a final farewell, and then his figure gradually blurred and disappeared into the air, leaving behind a single word.
"Accepted."
This blurring disappearance was a new ability gained after advancing to Disaster Level in the Sanctuary. When Wen Wen entered the Sanctuary, his disappearance no longer had to be abrupt, but could be chosen from various special effects.
After Wen Wen disappeared, Wen Rui stood for a while before taking out his notebook to record the events. After recording, he sat down on the bench in a sitting posture that Wen Wen liked, and took out a crystal ball.
Inside the crystal ball, the scene of their recent conversation played repeatedly!
"When I mentioned Luo Ying, although he showed no expression, his fists clenched behind his back were shaking. He was angry..."
"If he is not Wen Wen, why was he angry just now? And if he was, how did he manage to seem so completely different?"
Then he set down the crystal ball, sighed, and said, "But no matter whether he is or isn’t, he must have heard that conversation just now. He probably hates me to death."
"But what can I say? I was saying that I had gone back and even discovered the cause of her death..."
"Then what should I do? Should I choose to forgive or to seek revenge?..."
"I can only pretend to know nothing..."
Wen Rui barely brooded for five minutes before he stood up, his face losing the last trace of warmth as he muttered coldly:
"From the day I faked my death, I had already decided to give up everything in pursuit of the ultimate truth. Hate me if you must, for then I can truly immerse myself in the ocean of knowledge."
"Once I become a ’Professor’, everything will change!"
...
On a highway outside Qingchuan City, a snake, bobbing its head to blasting music, drove forward.
The drive was not very steady because he had overindulged in hotpot seasoning, and the buzz had not fully worn off yet.
In the back seat sat a humanoid insect of terrifying appearance, enough to scare the urine out of a normal person or scare a urinating person into stopping midstream.
However, this giant insect was just a mascot; even if you drew circles on its shell, it wouldn’t react, as it was naturally the Scavenging Demon, long since mentally challenged.
Suddenly, Wen Wen appeared out of nowhere on the back seat, and just as the Three Cubs was about to nuzzle him with its tail, it sensed that Wen Wen was like a repressed volcano and dared not do anything.
Before heading to the museum, Wen Wen had put the Scavenging Demon in the car and had the Three Cubs drive away from Qingchuan City.
This way, after he finished his business, he could go straight back to the car. If anything beyond his control happened at the museum, he would have an alibi.
But he hadn’t expected this affair to escalate so much that he’d end up clashing head-on with the museum using the power of the Calamity Prison Supervisor.
His location again coincided with the appearance of Black Cross. Relying on such weak evidence of absence, while not enough to be directly accused of being related to Black Cross, would at least lead to some suspicion.
Therefore, he planned to arrange for the monsters at the Sanctuary to instigate an incident elsewhere after this affair ended, to help mitigate some of the suspicion against him.
When he returned to the Sanctuary, he also brought those four monsters back in with him. The museum had so many robust items that even though all four monsters were of Disaster Level, they only managed to retrieve two items for Wen Wen.
One was a music box, and the other was an ancient book.
But Wen Wen didn’t bother to look at these two items and directly locked them into the Sanctuary; he wasn’t in the mood for it.
After taking back the Scavenging Demon, Wen Wen said to the Three Cubs, "Stop at the first roadside diner."
To build his alibi, he needed people to see him... and also, he wanted to drink!
The Three Cubs obediently drove until they came upon a roadside diner.
Wen Wen got out of the car, entered the small diner where a middle-aged woman with graying hair warmly greeted him, but Wen Wen ignored her, walked straight to the counter, grabbed several bottles of liquor, and began to drink heavily in a corner like it was plain water.
The woman’s face immediately darkened. Was this a troublemaker?
But then she looked down at the table and couldn’t avert her eyes—the spot Wen Wen had touched was covered with a stack of cash!
Wen Wen did not use his Supernatural Power to ward off the alcohol, but even without Superpower, his body was too strong; two bottles of liquor made him feel the spice but not a hint of drunkenness.
Meeting Wen Rui was, for him, a tremendous blow.
The death of his parents was an affliction that had haunted him for years, just as he was finally confronting this heartache and about to cure it. His thought-to-be-dead father of nine years reappeared and tore open that nearly healed scar!
