Chapter 389: Chapter 387 Museum!

Zhangsun Jing followed Wen Wen with the purpose of finding Xiong Ying, to have a proper talk with him, so Wen Wen didn’t mind giving him the chance. Besides, letting him communicate with Xiong Ying might lead to some unexpected gains.

Standing before Xiong Ying, Zhangsun Jing was about to speak when he took off his white wolf pelt cloak and draped it over Xiong Ying.

For him to conduct barrier-free communication with a man whose clothes had been burned off and who was now tied up with ropes, just like Wen Wen, was evidently difficult.

"We have met before, I’ve been beaten by you several times, but I believe this is our first time communicating. My name is Zhangsun Jing, and I am a Demon Hunter," he said.

After seeing Zhangsun Jing, Xiong Ying’s eyes darted around evasively.

Of all the Demon Hunters, only Zhangsun Jing had doggedly pursued him, and after beating up Zhangsun Jing a few times, Xiong Ying grew somewhat fearful at the sight of him.

Zhangsun Jing said with a smile, "You don’t need to worry. I won’t retaliate for the beatings you gave me before."

"I’ve gone through a phase just like yours, stubbornly willing to sacrifice everything for something. But I know that mindset isn’t good. Seeing you reminds me of my past self."

"Sometimes, being too strong is a detriment to oneself. Putting down the heavy burden on your shoulders and letting others share the load is a better choice."

Xiong Ying retorted, "You know nothing."

"Then enlighten me," Zhangsun Jing responded.

...

Wen Wen sat on the bleachers at one side of the soccer field, eating watermelon he had snagged from the hotpot restaurant.

Well...

Lake Search Hotpot not only offered these freeloading Demon Hunters complimentary fruit, but Wen Wen had also stashed his favorites in the Sanctuary’s fridge.

After eating for half an hour, the conversation between Zhangsun Jing and Xiong Ying finally concluded.

Zhangsun Jing walked over to Wen Wen and said, "Now you can go and ask him. He will tell you everything he knows."

"He must be a stubborn kid. How did you persuade him?" Wen Wen asked curiously.

"Appeal to his emotions, persuade him with reason, that’s all. Many times stubborn people aren’t unpersuadable, you just need to find the right way to persuade them," Zhangsun Jing said, chuckling as he stood to the side.

Having unraveled Xiong Ying’s emotional knots was a delight to him.

While Wen Wen looked at his smiling face, he mentally categorized this once indifferent swordsman among those akin to empathetic aunts.

Before asking his questions, Wen Wen handed a slice of cantaloupe to Xiong Ying, who hesitated for a moment before eating it.

"Good, now that you’ve eaten my melon, you’re one of us. Now go on and tell me your story," Wen Wen said.

Xiong Ying sighed, "It’s a long story."

Wen Wen sat down on the ground, took out two bottles of beer, and set them on the ground, adopting a posture ready to listen to a story. "No worries, I’ve got time. Make it interesting, will you?"

Naturally, the beer was also from Lake Search Hotpot.

"Four months ago, I was diagnosed with a terminal illness. After undergoing two months of treatment, continuing the treatment would deplete my family’s savings, leaving me to die in agony on a hospital bed after another four months. Without treatment, I had two months to live."

"I didn’t want to spend my last days in a hospital bed, nor did I want to drain my family’s savings and leave them unable to survive after I died."

"So, I chose to enjoy the last two months of my life, indulging myself within the bounds of Qingchuan City, living out my final two months to the fullest."

Wen Wen shrugged, unable to judge Xiong Ying’s decision as right or wrong.

But if Wen Wen had had the chance to let his mother live a bit longer back then, he would have paid any price.

Yet, did his mother really want Wen Wen to do that? Probably not.

"Later, I went to the only museum in Qingchuan City I hadn’t visited, and that’s where I changed!"

"The Federation’s Premier Museum of Curiosities!" Wen Wen blurted out with narrowed eyes.

"What, you’ve been there too?" Xiong Ying asked in surprise.

Wen Wen didn’t answer Xiong Ying’s question; his brain was furiously spinning.

If Xiong Ying really had escaped death and gained his current abilities because of that museum, it meant the museum definitely had issues.

But Wen Wen had already personally investigated it before and found no hint of anything amiss, indicating how deeply hidden the museum’s secrets were.

And the fact that the museum directly granted Xiong Ying Disaster Level strength suggested immense energy lurking within it!

Now Wen Wen had decided that no matter what, he must go there again and uncover what was hidden!

"Keep talking, what happened after you arrived at the museum?"

Then, Xiong Ying slowly started recounting his own experiences while Wen Wen continually analyzed his words.

When Wen Wen learned that Xiong Ying acquired his abilities after taking a heart from the museum, he knew that the so-called ’Devil’s Heart’ was at least on the same level as the Philosophy Bracelet in terms of being a Containment Item, and that this sort of item was simply given away by that place!

So, the museum deserved Wen Wen’s utmost vigilance, even his Disaster Level strength might count for nothing there.

He only needed to find out about Wen Rui’s affair; as for the rest, it was probably more appropriate to report it to the Hunters Association.

After hearing about the museum, Wen Wen didn’t pay much attention to Xiong Ying’s story anymore, but when he heard Xiong Ying say that he lost some of his life every time he saved someone, he couldn’t help but be touched.

This kid really made Wen Wen look at him with newfound respect.

In Wen Wen’s eyes, all humans were actually grey.

The noble and the despicable alike, except for pure lunatics; everyone was essentially grey.

Even the most virtuous person might have unknown stains, while the most despicable might still harbor kindness towards something.

Right and wrong, good and evil, actually, it’s a very uncomfortable matter.

But undoubtedly, someone like Xiong Ying deserved Wen Wen’s respect.

Wen Wen himself was incapable of sacrificing himself to save strangers, and very few others he knew could do so.

"After one more rescue, I’ll die, so I won’t use this identity anymore."

"I want to spend my last year of life with my family."

Xiong Ying’s narrative ended, and Zhangsun Jing looked at Xiong Ying with a heart full of pity, while Wen Wen’s thoughts remained unreadable on his face.

He placed his hand on Xiong Ying’s chest, sending his strength into him to probe, and indeed could sense a heart full of malice within Xiong Ying’s chest.

This must be the ’Devil’s Heart’ then, the existence of this heart all but verified Xiong Ying’s words as truth.

However, since he had even revealed that he had a heart in his body that was constantly urging him to do evil deeds, there was actually no need to keep anything hidden from Wen Wen anymore.
