Seizing the opportunity, Wen Wen sneakily delivered a low kick to Xiong Ying as he ran past him. Caught off guard, Xiong Ying staggered but didn’t fall. However, by that time, Wen Wen had already grabbed his cloak!

Wen Wen grabbed his cloak, intending to spin around in place a few times and fling him away like a windmill, then throw him out.

He had seen villains use this method to deal with superheroes in movies, so he thought it was quite cool.

Unexpectedly, Xiong Ying’s cloak was so poorly made that it tore after just one turn, flinging Xiong Ying into a nearby soccer field.

Wen Wen sighed as he looked at the cloak in his hands and said, "Things from movies really can’t be relied on..."

Then he slowly landed in front of Xiong Ying and asked curiously, "You were flung away so easily, which means you are not familiar with your strength, like a child wielding a large axe. But why can’t Qingchuan City handle someone like you?"

"You must have some hidden abilities, feel free to use them against me."

Xiong Ying lay on the ground, unwilling to get up, feeling his life quickly ebbing away.

The closer he came to the end of his life, the more he resisted the will of the Devil’s Heart, the greater the damage to it, and the less life Xiong Ying had left. After this incident, he could live at most another year, and if he helped someone else again within this year, he would definitely die!

Realizing he didn’t have much time left, even someone like Xiong Ying couldn’t help feeling a bit wronged, and tears appeared at the corners of his eyes.

But he was a very strong person. Having decided to save others, he had anticipated such a situation, so he wiped his tears and stood up to face Wen Wen.

"You cried..."

Wen Wen suddenly felt a bit out of his element, having made a superpower user of the Assimilation Realm cry like this was the first time he’d encountered such a situation, so he stiffly said, "I’ll compensate you for your cloak... um, I can pay tenfold."

Xiong Ying was speechless. Although he was indeed quite fond of his battle garment, he wasn’t crying over it. However, Wen Wen’s diversion lightened his heartache a bit, and there was some relief in his eyes.

He had come to terms with it. If he hadn’t received the Devil’s Heart, he would still be lying in a hospital bed or perhaps already dead. Now, he had the strength he had dreamt of before and an extra year to live, what was there to be distressed about?

So he deeply bowed to Wen Wen and said, "Mr. Mystic Detective, if you are trying to catch me because I’ve been too active, you can stop now. I probably won’t appear again."

"Not appear again..." Wen Wen said incredulously, "From what I’ve observed, you love the limelight. You won’t just quit that easily."

Xiong Ying said helplessly, "It’s true this time. Previously, I caused so much trouble because I wanted to leave behind something before my last day. Now, I no longer need to."

Wen Wen frowned, his words sounding like last words, but he still couldn’t just let him go, "Even though you say that... my mission is to catch you, so I’m sorry, I can’t just believe you."

Xiong Ying sighed, "You don’t believe me, and I can’t just go with you, so I might have to resist now!"

Helping others would defy the will of the Devil’s Heart, but fighting with a Demon Hunter wouldn’t!

"You can resist all you want, it’s best if you can make our fight enjoyable, a dull battle isn’t any better than going back to listen to ghost stories!" Wen Wen’s mouth curved into a smile as he reached into his cloak and pulled out a longsword.

The sword appeared translucent, radiating a startling chill, causing the ground around it to begin frosting over—it was indeed the Sword of Frost previously wielded by the Ice Queen.

Originally, the sword had a blue-white halo, but now all the halos had turned pitch black, adding a sense of eeriness.

While making a sword sheath for the sword, Wen Wen had made some minor modifications to it, the overall functionality hadn’t changed, but it now had a touch of personal style.

With a staff in his left hand and the sword in his right, Wen Wen gave a sinister laugh as he looked at Xiong Ying, giving him a very bad feeling.

Grinding his teeth, he took a bold step forward and aimed a punch at Wen Wen’s head, using much more force than when he was hitting a clay figure.

Xiong Ying didn’t want to hurt people, but he wasn’t outdated either, so every Demon Hunter who came to capture him ended up with a battered face. However, Wen Wen was different from all the Demon Hunters he had previously defeated—Wen Wen was a Ranger with the strength of the Assimilation Mid-Sequence!

Unmoved, a purple-black energy appeared on Wen Wen’s right side, propelling him half a meter to the left and dodging Xiong Ying’s punch. Then, he thrust the staff in his left hand towards Xiong Ying’s chest.

Facing the staff thrusting directly at him, Xiong Ying leaped back two meters high to avoid it.

Wen Wen wasn’t surprised by Xiong Ying’s evasion; it was all within his expectations. A superpower user from the Assimilation Realm who couldn’t even dodge this should just go hit his head on tofu and die.

Thus, Wen Wen had already prepared for his evasion. As Xiong Ying leaped, Wen Wen swung his longsword with his right hand, sending a blast of Sword Qi in the form of chaotic ice ridges toward Xiong Ying.

These ice ridges were Wen Wen’s prepared striking move, covering a vast range and being capable of controlling Xiong Ying for a short duration upon impact!

In mid-air, unable to rely on any leverage, and having just dodged Wen Wen’s previous attack, Xiong Ying might have been slightly relaxed, so Wen Wen was confident his sword would hit the target.

In fact, Xiong Ying did look very flustered, but what Wen Wen hadn’t anticipated then happened.

Just as he was about to be hit by the ice ridges, Xiong Ying stepped on one of the ice ridges that Wen Wen had thrust at him and jumped up again, perfectly dodging Wen Wen’s attack.

As if he had seen something amusing, Wen Wen looked at Xiong Ying in surprise and asked, "How did you do that? You indeed have a trick up your sleeve!"

If it were Wen Wen himself, dodging this attack would be no surprise, but this fellow hadn’t even dodged his previous low kick, so how could he react so quickly this time?

Xiong Ying didn’t answer Wen Wen’s question, instead he quickly ran around Wen Wen, and as he did, his body began to undergo a strange transformation.

Just from that one contact, Xiong Ying had realized that if he didn’t give his all, he would indeed be easily caught by Wen Wen!

Spiky bone spurs grew out of his shoulders, elbows, and knees, his hands and feet started showing scales, and a red, ferocious tail burst out of his pants.

Now, Xiong Ying completely looked more like a ferocious monster than a human!

Amazed, Wen Wen looked at Xiong Ying and remarked, "Is this your Assimilation State? It’s quite impressive."

"That’s not right, your control over your strength seemed clumsy earlier, unlike a superpower user who normally advances to the Assimilation Realm. Are you using something else to gain your power, or are you not human at all?"
