Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 292 - 290: Containment Base
Chapter 292: Chapter 290: Containment Base
After waiting for about half an hour more, most of the Demon Hunters who had passed the evaluation emerged from the building and entered the hall.
Looking through the window, the testing building began to seal off, and it seemed that the assessment had ended.
Wen Wen quickly counted the number of people in the hall; roughly twenty-something people had failed the second stage of the assessment.
The Rangers who came to participate in the assessment were no weaklings, but there were a few superpower users with serious psychological issues who couldn’t remain rational under extreme circumstances, thus disqualified from becoming Rangers.
The doors opened, and Xun Qing flew in on his purple longsword, hovering at a low altitude before standing in front of everyone.
This time, he had switched to purple hair and was wearing a purple-red robe, looking quite flamboyant.
"Why does he have to fly in on his sword even when inside a building, and why has he changed his appearance in less than a day?" Chu Wei complained, but Wen Wen really wasn’t in the mood for sarcasm.
Xun Qing flew up on his sword, pointing and counting, "Let me see. Tsk, there are still more than a hundred and ninety people, quite a number of people passed the first two assessments this year."
Then he descended, glaring at the crowd, a powerful aura emanating from him, exerting immense pressure on everyone before his tone became low and stern.
"The third assessment is the last and most dangerous one. This time you will face real danger, and the weak may die at any moment. If you are afraid, now is your chance to withdraw."
Far from intimidating the Rangers, his words only made their fighting spirit surge even more, as they unleashed their Qi. Among these diverse auras, the most conspicuous was that of the blonde woman.
Her aura was like a golden longsword, incredibly sharp, and close to matching Xun Qing’s own in terms of intensity!
Xun Qing dispersed his aura and said with a smile, "Since you’re all prepared, then board the plane. The venue for the third assessment is not here."
After speaking, he flew out of the hall with his hands behind his back, riding the longsword. Outside the hall, several transport helicopters had already landed.
Xun Qing’s words were not meant to dampen everyone’s enthusiasm, but to ignite the Demon Hunters’ fighting spirit.
After the second assessment, most Demon Hunters were feeling downhearted. Going into the third with such a half-hearted attitude could indeed lead to deaths!
After about half an hour’s flight, the plane landed on a massive platform.
As soon as the cabin opened, Wen Wen leapt out of the plane and walked to the edge of the platform to look down, only to find himself on the rooftop of a massive base.
This huge base was located in a secluded mountainous region, and going by the faint roars of beasts, it was likely a place that no ordinary person would tread.
The plane was fully enclosed, and the exterior had a sensory-blocking coating, so Wen Wen was unaware of his exact location.
But if Wen Wen wanted to pinpoint it, he could probably find the specific location.
All he had to do was draw a circle based on the maximum Speed of the plane and then check the map to approximately locate the place, easier still if the plane hadn’t changed direction during the flight.
However, Wen Wen wasn’t so idle as to feel compelled to find his own organization’s base; it was just a thought in his mind.
After all the planes had landed, Xun Qing, standing on his flying sword, said, "This is one of the Association’s large containment bases, whose main function is to contain and imprison a variety of rare, dangerous creatures and Containment Items of research value, as well as to carry out research on Supernatural Beings."
"Before the assessment begins, I’ll take you on a brief tour."
Everyone followed Xun Qing from the rooftop into the containment base. Along the way, they saw many strictly sealed cells that appeared complex and fully functional, but none compared to Wen Wen’s own Sanctuary.
Xun Qing, acting like a tour guide, explained some of the curious Containment Items. He arrived at a plain cell and pointed to the inside, saying,
"This Containment Item is codenamed ’transmigrator,’ captured by the Association three years ago. According to him, he too is from Earth, but his memory contains a different history, a different technological system – an entirely different Earth."
"As of now, the Association’s scientists still can’t confirm the reality of this other Earth he describes, but his DNA is indeed slightly different from ours."
"The reason for his capture is that he tried to overthrow the Earth Federation using another set of knowledge, intending to establish a new regime..."
Wen Wen peered through the window, looking at the person inside and found himself speechless.
He saw a chubby man inside the glass wall, munching on chips and playing video games, exactly like a Federation couch potato.
Xun Qing spoke with a touch of embarrassment, "He wasn’t like this originally, but after being cared for by us for several years, he turned into this."
"At first, we tried to collaborate with him, but he always saw us as natives and claimed that fate was unfair to him. Therefore, he wished to go against the heavens and overturn this corrupt world... So, we had to keep him locked up."
Wen Wen sighed. It seemed this so-called transmigrator suffered from a severe case of the second-student syndrome; he wasn’t a Calamity-level boss, so where did he get the confidence to take on the world alone?
Perhaps he’d already lost himself when he became a ’transmigrator.’
In this bizarre world, a ’transmigrator’ wasn’t anything special.
Next, Xun Qing led the group to look at several other strange items.
There was a curious statue that, if not watched by someone—even for the blink of an eye—would move in front of the person and twist their neck.
There was a grotesque creature that continuously emitted unintelligible murmuring. Ordinary people who heard these murmurs would turn into twisted monsters.
Apart from the oddities, Wen Wen also saw many familiar monsters—Ghosts, Scavenging Demons, vampires, and more.
He even saw a Catastrophe-level creature, deprived of its mother, bound in chains, watching the passing Demon Hunters with a somber gaze...
While touring, Wen Wen felt a stirring within him; if he could pull all these monsters into his Sanctuary, wouldn’t he instantly become stronger?
But he quickly repressed such thoughts as his strength was insufficient to support such a madcap action, plus he had signed a contract not to harm the Hunters Association.
Before they knew it, the group had reached the ground. Xun Qing pointed to an entrance resembling an underground airraid shelter, "This is the venue where you will be taking your assessment, and it is the reason this containment base was built here."
After pausing for a moment, Xun Qing told everyone, "Beneath this bunker lies a Catastrophe-level Containment Item!"
