Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 229 - 227 Lishui Villa
Chapter 229: Chapter 227 Lishui Villa
After arriving in Yanling City, Chu Wei arranged for Wen Wen to stay at a hotel specially designed for Demon Hunters passing through. The place boasted superior surroundings and meticulous services, far surpassing any accommodation Wen Wen would have found on his own.
Most importantly, room and board were completely free!
When they parted ways, Wen Wen obtained the phone number of the Yanling City Hunters Association from Chu Wei.
He estimated he would stir up some trouble in Yanling City, so he might occasionally need someone to tie up loose ends for him.
Overall, there was only one thing Wen Wen absolutely had to do in Yanling City, which was to rescue the young man imprisoned by the Profane Blood.
That young man possessed traits that Wen Wen valued, so he wanted to recruit him as a Containment Officer.
However, aside from this, Wen Wen also planned to engage in other activities in Yanling City.
Unlike Furong River City, Yanling City had the normal density of monsters for a regular city, which to Wen Wen, represented an undeveloped fertile land he could take advantage of and enjoy thoroughly.
After dinner, Wen Wen notified the Yanling City Association and then left the hotel.
Demon Hunters in cities outside their jurisdiction, if planning to engage in activities involving Supernatural Power, are required to inform the local Hunter Association.
While this isn’t a strict requirement for Rangers, Wen Wen wasn’t one yet, so he needed to report his activities.
He had requested permission from the Yanling City Hunters Association to hunt Ghosts, and the Association had agreed.
As with Furong River City, many of the Ghosts here were also just waiting to be uniformly subdued.
Of course, saying he was going out to catch Ghosts was just a guise for his real purpose.
Wen Wen intended to check out the situation at Lishui Villa, which was the local branch of the Profane Blood in the Capital District!
He wasn’t planning to infiltrate the enemy camp alone, despite nearly having the strength of the Assimilation Realm. Such power was negligible in front of a branch of the Profane Blood.
Therefore, he only intended to take a cursory look without revealing his true intentions.
Though hunting Ghosts was a secondary objective, Wen Wen had no intentions of simply going through the motions.
He wanted to create some beads that harnessed the power of Ghosts, which could both cultivate his own Ghosts and be sold for money.
Relying solely on Demon Hunting Coins from monster hunting was a bit slow, so Wen Wen planned to sell items on the Hunters Association website.
He had seen on the website that the beads he could produce, known as Resentful Soul Beads, were very difficult to form naturally, so he decided to market them as his main product.
...
Lishui Villa was built by the shore of Lishui Lake on the edge of Yanling City and served as a gathering place for the city’s elites. The place was lively, both day and night.
By day, they came to relax and conduct trade discussions, and at night, many came to study foreign languages...
Wen Wen parked his car by the lake and looked across at Lishui Villa with a slight exclamation.
Who would have guessed that such an upscale club was actually the headquarters of lunatics like the Profane Blood?
Nevertheless, among the cities in Dongshan Province, Yanling City had always been one with relatively inactive Supernatural Powers, for which the city’s Demon Hunter team had even received commendations.
It seemed that even the lunatics of the Profane Blood understood the principle of not harming the area surrounding their den.
As he was musing, Wen Wen’s body tensed momentarily, then he continued to admire the scenery of Lishui Villa for a while before turning his gaze away.
For a brief moment, Wen Wen felt someone watching him, but after a careful sense, that person vanished without a trace.
Being watched from across the lake was fortunate, considering he hadn’t attempted to infiltrate their lair in disguise.
Thinking about it, Lishui Villa was the headquarters of the Profane Blood in the Capital District, so Wen Wen, a stranger with Superpower capabilities, was bound to attract their attention.
It was precisely because he knew that this place would be heavily guarded that Wen Wen had only come to observe from a distance under the pretext of expelling ghosts, yet he hadn’t expected to still be targeted.
He took a deep breath, walked a distance along the lake shore, and arrived in front of a long pavilion built by the water.
The pavilion was called Lishui Pavilion, and it was a popular spot for tourists, but recently, there had been frequent accidents of people slipping into the water nearby and disappearing without a trace.
The Hunters Association of Yanling City had detected ghostly qi in the area and suspected the presence of a Water Ghost, but had never managed to catch its tail.
So, Wen Wen took out his Custodian Badge, and a map of the terrain within a fifty-meter radius quietly materialized before him.
Indeed, there was a vague shadow in the lake.
That must be the Water Ghost of this lake.
However, judging by the color, this Water Ghost seemed too weak, probably incapable of even giving someone a fright, let alone pulling a person into the water to drown.
Of course, Wen Wen wasn’t particularly concerned with the ghost itself.
There was another figure, much more conspicuous than the ghost, lurking behind a tree thirty meters away, sinisterly watching Wen Wen.
From the color displayed by that figure, it was supposed to have Disaster Level strength, but Wen Wen wasn’t sure whether it was a monster or a superpower user.
Even on the terrain map, his figure was elusive, and if it weren’t for the probing divine artifact such as the Custodian Badge, Wen Wen wouldn’t have been able to see him at all.
But Wen Wen pretended he had not noticed the figure and continued with his actions.
That guy was probably a scout sent out by Profane Blood; if Wen Wen dared to move against him, it would signal to Profane Blood that Wen Wen had discovered their lair, and he probably wouldn’t be able to escape from here safely.
So, Wen Wen simply sat on a stone by the edge of the water and stretched his feet into the lake, swaying them back and forth.
"I must say, the scenery here is really quite nice."
A gentle breeze blew across the lake, creating delicate ripples that reflected shimmering wavelets under the moonlight, while the frogs and insects by the shore produced a pleasant chorus of calls.
After admiring the scenery for a while, there was still no reaction from the lake, and the ghost continued to wander aimlessly in the water, seemingly oblivious to Wen Wen.
"This isn’t right, lower-level ghosts are simple-minded creatures that act on instinct. Alone here, it should have attacked me—could it have discovered that I’m a superpower user?"
Wen Wen had performed a simple qi concealment, so getting close to the Profane Blood headquarters was out of the question, but such a Little Ghost shouldn’t be able to detect Wen Wen.
"No, that’s not it either—the ghost’s qi is so faint that it’s even less noticeable than the fish in the lake. How could it have the ability to detect me?"
"...wait a minute, the fish in this lake, isn’t their presence a bit too strong?"
Wen Wen finally realized the crux of the matter, took out the Hundred Flavors Cup, filled it with some lake water, and swirled it around, turning it into blood.
Then, Wen Wen poured the blood, filled with a fishy smell, back into the lake.
Shortly after, the fish in the lake started to stir, and a giant catfish over three meters in length was silently approaching Wen Wen from the bottom of the lake.
Of course, the catfish thought it was well-hidden; in fact, it was quite secret, but in truth, Wen Wen could see it all clearly on the terrain map.
This catfish was different from ordinary ones; its plump body was covered in scars, with barbels on its cheeks that were almost as long as its body.
The barbels silently extended out of the water, wrapped around Wen Wen’s feet, and pulled him into the lake.
Its movements were very practiced; it must have done this countless times, and to the untrained eye, it might even look like a simple slip into the water.
Once Wen Wen was in the water, the surface erupted with intense splashes, as if a violent struggle was taking place.
Then, gradually, the lake returned to calm...
