Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 186 - 184: Sense of Hunger
Chapter 186: Chapter 184: Sense of Hunger
"You Han has been controlled too?" Wen Wen’s expression darkened.
He had been a part of the Hunters Association for some time now, and although he had little personal connection with You Han, he still considered him an acquaintance.
Seeing You Han transform like this left a bitter taste in Wen Wen’s heart.
Then, looking at You Han’s waist, Wen Wen realized; it was her who had sent out the flare.
She had used her last bit of strength to send out a signal, but had not managed to escape from this place.
Rubbing his wrist, Wen Wen was about to join the fray. With his current strength, just by joining in, he could easily turn the tide.
He was not sure just how strong the combination of his two physiques made him, but he was certain that his strength would not disappoint him.
Yet just as he took a step forward, he abruptly stopped.
Because the Catastrophe Gloves once again felt a sense of hunger!
Wen Wen’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at the villa. The thing that was causing the Catastrophe Gloves to feel hungry was right there, inside the villa’s basement.
Having joined the Association, Wen Wen had seen many files previously inaccessible to him, so he was no longer a complete novice in the world of superpower users.
He knew that the blood-red heart absorbed by his Catastrophe Gloves last time was the Energy Core that allowed a Catastrophe Level being to descend upon the world.
The last trace of the Energy Core’s power resided in Wen Wen’s heart, continuously strengthening his body.
Although the process was slow, Wen Wen’s fundamental physical quality was indeed growing stronger.
It was an energy of that level that could allow the Sanctuary to open its second layer.
This time, the Sanctuary’s hunger could mean that something equivalent to the blood-red heart, or even more formidable, was inside the basement of this villa.
"So, this really is the source of the corruption. If I let the Catastrophe Gloves absorb that energy, I could put an end to this disaster," he thought.
After a moment of thought, Wen Wen decided not to lend a hand to Gong Baoding and the others. Their battle was at a standstill, but it hadn’t turned disadvantageous.
Moreover, the signal had just been sent. It was certain that other Demon Hunters would soon arrive, such as the superpower user who had fired that arrow.
Joining them would make it inconvenient for Wen Wen to absorb the Energy Core.
Whether it was to stop this catastrophe or to become stronger himself, Wen Wen should not go out.
So Wen Wen concealed his Qi and quietly circled to the back of the villa.
He approached the villa’s back security door, lightly placed his hand on the handle and gave it a twist. The whole iron door was twisted into a spiral and fell off.
Now, Wen Wen could be considered a humanoid monster.
In the past, it was simple for him to break down the door, but to twist it like this was practically impossible.
The Golden Eagle Physique gave Wen Wen, apart from wings, a pair of claws capable of splitting gold and bursting stones.
Cautiously entering the villa and making sure it was safe, Wen Wen started to move forward quickly.
He had to absorb that energy quickly, or it would be problematic once the people outside came in.
Soon, he found the entrance to the basement and was about to make his way in when a crimson tentacle struck without warning.
The speed was so fast that Wen Wen, in the midst of moving forward, could not avoid it in time and could only manifest the Catastrophe Gloves in front of his chest.
But the tentacle was not only fast but also carried a terrifying force. Wen Wen was directly knocked back, crashing through a wall before coming to a stop.
Even with Wen Wen’s monstrous physique, he found his throat sweet and looked ahead in shock.
"I’m afraid I’ve hit a snag."
As Wen Wen rose to his feet, the deformed female monster, with eight long legs moving in unison, sashayed towards him.
Her body proportions were somewhat strange; her legs were as thick as a normal woman’s but much longer, her waist thicker than average, yet it seemed just right on her frame. In Wen Wen’s twisted sense of aesthetics, there was even a hint of beauty.
"These legs... eight times the pleasure!"
Wen Wen licked his lips, his gaze peculiar; the female monster did have a unique charm.
Then, looking at his hand, all whimsical thoughts vanished, replaced by a more solemn expression. He saw that his typically resilient Containment Officer uniform was gone, sleeveless with only the pitch-black Catastrophe Gloves remaining.
"If it were just a matter of strength, my sleeves shouldn’t have torn..."
Wen Wen then looked towards that tentacle and noticed that on the bright red appendage, there grew a dense cluster of small crayfish.
These crayfish were all alive, their little claws like small pincers, shredding everything they touched to pieces. Had Wen Wen not revealed the Catastrophe Gloves, he might have lost his entire hand.
"So much for crayfish thriving in contaminated areas being a lie; turns out, they’re growing on a beauty... But this detective will never eat crayfish again."
His situation not yet dire, Wen Wen’s mood was still fairly good, even allowing for a joke or two.
Two daggers slid from his sleeves into his hands, ready for combat.
Based on that one strike, Wen Wen could confirm that this creature was at least a Disaster Level monster, and not just any ordinary Disaster Level.
Fighting such an adversary head-on was still too risky, but there was no choice. To absorb the energy of the corruption’s source, he had to break through this monster’s blockade.
Besides, even if Wen Wen didn’t want to fight, the monster might not let him off.
After all, her delicate face was filled with fierce intent to kill!
After a brief standoff, the tentacles, like giant whips, lashed out at Wen Wen, their tips even making a terrifying sonic boom!
With a slight sidestep, Wen Wen avoided the tentacle. Concentrating, it wasn’t difficult for him to evade this attack.
However, there was more than one tentacle behind her!
The relentless barrage of whip-like tentacles left Wen Wen struggling to cope. The female monster’s attack speed was unreasonable, evoking the feeling of an electric fan with just a few tentacles.
Wen Wen could barely avoid being hit directly, but he couldn’t get close, much less counterattack, only managing a clumsy defense.
Though he could nick the tentacles with his daggers, they were incredibly tough; even with all his might, he could only slice the outer skin, which the female monster could instantly heal.
Shooting would be a better option at this point, but gunfire would leave traces, revealing that Wen Wen had fought someone here.
As the fight wore on, Wen Wen suddenly felt a sense of familiarity with the female monster.
He remembered where he had seen this woman before!
It was at the Kewei Museum, that Liao Jiaxin who approached him voluntarily!
The corruption on this woman was intense, on a completely different level from the monsters outside. It was fortunate that he hadn’t accepted her invitation back then, or he might have been ensnared.
What Wen Wen didn’t know was that, had he accepted Liao Jiaxin’s invitation back then, she wouldn’t have encountered Grandi, and this place wouldn’t have turned into a living hell.
Alas, there are no ’ifs’...
Even if it wasn’t Liao Jiaxin who had suffered, someone else would have been controlled by the ’Great Mother’ and become the source of disaster.
