Catastrophe Containment Facility
Chapter 167 - 165: The Bizarre Puppet

Chapter 167: Chapter 165: The Bizarre Puppet

"Eighteen cows, fifty-seven pigs, fourteen dogs, chickens... too many chickens, I forgot the exact number."

Wen Wen’s smile was so broad it was nearly crooked, as this meant the Catastrophe Containment Facility could cut a significant portion of its expenses for a long time.

"Those antiques need to be sold quickly, and besides, I should find a wealthy Containment Officer. Dealing with the Sanctuary’s finances should not fall on the shoulders of someone as poor as me."

As he was taking inventory, Wen Wen discovered something strange: only the larger animals had their knees shattered.

The critical size seemed to be that of a hen. Animals larger than a hen had all bitten the dust, whereas smaller ones, like chicks, were still hopping around energetically.

Moreover, he hadn’t seen the corpses of small animals like mice.

"Is it because of their size? No, that’s not right, bats are about the size of chicks, and they’ve been knocked down from the sky. It doesn’t make sense that the chicks would survive..."

"Wait a minute, flying in the sky..."

"Height!"

Wen Wen clapped his hands, finally understanding what was really going on.

The Supporter said before, this puppet could talk and really hated being looked down on.

Could this mean that it would only shatter the knees of those who looked down on the puppet? If one’s eyes were level with the puppet’s, or below it, would they not be attacked by the puppet?

"In that case, the best way to deal with that puppet is to lie down and attack it, ensuring my gaze is always beneath its own."

As he was considering this, Wen Wen suddenly felt something was wrong. There were faint footsteps behind him, but no presence could be felt.

He quickly turned around, and then cursed inwardly, as his heart skipped a beat.

All he saw was a puppet with a bowtie, carrying a rusty ram’s horn hammer, standing blankly behind him!

He had been somewhat careless, focused on summarizing the situation, without noticing the puppet had reached his position.

The puppet showed not a trace of life’s energy, nor any abnormal energy waves. It looked like an utterly ordinary puppet.

But the moment their eyes met, the puppet opened its mouth to speak.

"Foolish human, you dare to look down on me. I will leap up and smash your knees!"

After speaking, the puppet jumped up, swinging the ram’s horn hammer towards Wen Wen’s knees.

The force and speed of its leap were enough to rival Lin Lu!

Wen Wen’s eyes narrowed; he kicked straight into the puppet’s chest, sending it flying like kicking a football.

When strength and speed are not vastly different, size can significantly influence combat ability.

Wen Wen’s legs were longer than the puppet’s, so he could land a hit first. As long as Wen Wen was vigilant, the puppet could never reach him.

The puppet hit a tree, bounced off, and then leapt again, rapidly closing in on Wen Wen.

His previous kick hadn’t harmed it at all, and this time it was even stronger.

"This is trouble!"

Wen Wen dodged the puppet and grabbed its bowtie, pinning it to the ground, and stepped on it to keep it in place.

Then he drew his Blazing Tiger and fired a shot at the puppet’s head.

After the loud bang, Wen Wen’s foot was slightly injured by the aftereffects of the bullet, but the puppet was completely unharmed, not even a single hair of its wig had fallen off!

Wen Wen’s face changed as, although his strength had greatly increased, the Blazing Tiger’s offensive capabilities were still among the top of all his techniques. Unexpectedly, not even the Blazing Tiger could injure this puppet.

Is this guy made of diamond?

After firing his gun, Wen Wen realized he could no longer hold down the puppet, which had increased its strength by a large margin in order to break free from Wen Wen’s restraint.

If bullets don’t work, let’s try acid!

After a snap of his fingers, green acid covered the puppet’s body, but as it generated a puff of white smoke on the surface, the acid poured onto the ground just like water.

What had only dissolved were mere impurities on the puppet’s surface, and not even the acid could corrode what seemed to be an ordinary wooden doll.

"This isn’t scientific at all. Pine wood can’t possibly be this sturdy."

Wen Wen frantically dealt with the acid-covered puppet attacking him; if it hadn’t been fixated on striking Wen Wen’s knees, handling it would have been even more difficult.

Next, Wen Wen tried mental attacks, freezing, and even toxins, but none could inflict the slightest harm on the puppet.

After Wen Wen had tested all of his techniques, he was certain it wasn’t that he was using them incorrectly—it was that the puppet simply could not be damaged.

Indestructibility was an inherent trait of the puppet; brute force alone couldn’t subdue it.

It might be possible to physically destroy the puppet, but Wen Wen currently lacked the strength to do so.

He let out a long sigh and said, "This thing just doesn’t tire; after all that effort, it hasn’t sustained any damage. I can’t outlast it, so if I want to escape this situation, there’s only one way."

Wen Wen grabbed the collar of the puppet and tossed it away, then immediately lay down on the ground.

"Now I’m lower than you, you won’t chase me anymore, right?"

However, to Wen Wen’s surprise, the puppet still rushed to his legs and raised its hammer to strike.

Wen Wen barely refrained from dodging, realizing that if he didn’t let the puppet hammer once, he wouldn’t be able to get rid of it.

As a vampire, Wen Wen’s bones were much more robust than a human’s, yet they were still shattered by the puppet’s hammer.

"I’ve tested the force just now; this hammer can’t possibly break my bones. It seems that ’knees must shatter when struck’ is also an inherent attribute of this puppet," Wen Wen said speechlessly.

However, with his knees shattered, Wen Wen didn’t feel much pain.

The torture he had endured before was far more painful; this was nothing by comparison, it even felt somewhat pleasant.

Some people become addicted to pain; there are many such individuals, differing only in degree.

For instance, spicy flavor is actually a kind of pain...

So when you see a masochist, don’t be surprised—they’re just a bit more extreme than those who enjoy spicy food.

After both knees were shattered, the puppet’s fierce expression turned blank, reverting to a harmless appearance, and it walked away from Wen Wen with mechanical steps.

Wen Wen didn’t rush to get up; although his knees were shattered, it wasn’t a big problem for him, as they would recover in less than a minute.

To subdue this creature, one must fully understand its traits, or it could be very troublesome.

"First off, the trigger for the puppet’s attacks seems to be a downward gaze; as long as someone looks down on it, it is sure to shatter that person’s knees, and it won’t stop this behavior until it succeeds," he thought.

"Secondly, the puppet’s strength and speed vary according to the resistance it faces, but there’s a limit to this change, so it should still be considered a Disaster Level containment item," he deduced.

"Finally, the puppet possesses two inherent properties: indestructibility and the certainty of knee shattering when hit by its hammer."
