Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 148 - 146: Return to Paradise
Chapter 148: Chapter 146: Return to Paradise
After the teams split up, Gong Baoding considered how he should deal with Ding Mingguang.
First, once he arrived at the target location, he definitely planned to shake off Ding Mingguang because he needed to meet another Containment Officer, Wenwen, and having Ding Mingguang with him would be inconvenient.
However, having Ding Mingguang around had its benefits; he didn’t need to take action himself to disrupt Yan Biqing’s strength.
With Ding Mingguang there, their operation would go much more smoothly.
Previously, at the Sanctuary, Wenwen had left a mark on Gong Baoding. As long as Wenwen was in the Sanctuary, he and Gong Baoding could exchange information through this mark.
After all, with Ding Mingguang around, any communication using electronic devices was unsafe.
The information Wenwen was willing to share over the phone was nothing he feared exposing.
After Ding Mingguang located the approximate area of Yan Biqing, Wenwen began heading towards Yan Biqing’s hidden location.
Whether it was a coincidence or not, the place he was hiding this time was the Furong River Amusement Park.
The Furong River Amusement Park had now been completely sealed off, with no entry allowed. The official reason stated was due to a fire causing disrepair; the buildings inside were likely to collapse, so people were not allowed in.
But in reality, it was because there was still some Catastrophe Level monster influence lingering, and ordinary people entering might mutate.
Moreover, who knows what kind of monsters might still be lurking there.
After all, last time, too many monsters gathered here, and even the Hunters Association couldn’t guarantee complete safety.
However, for Yan Biqing, none of these were problems. The residual Catastrophe Level aura was not enough to affect him.
And with no other people around, it was the perfect place for him to hide.
Although he had not inherited the true Yan Biqing’s entire memory, he still had some vague understanding of Ding Mingguang’s abilities.
He knew that Ding Mingguang could control electronic devices using a virtual electronic creature.
Thus, he suspected that the traces Ding Mingguang left behind during his transits had led to his detection before.
That was why, this time, after transiting, he did not stay in the same place but ran a distance and hid in the Furong River Amusement Park.
With the calamity having wiped out any electronic devices, this place should be a surveillance blind spot for Ding Mingguang.
If he were to be found this time, then the situation might be very dire.
...
Although Gong Baoding and his team set off first, Wenwen’s family lived closer to the Furong River Amusement Park and thus arrived there first.
Ding Mingguang had locked onto an address within only a vague range, certain only that Yan Biqing was in the amusement park, but unable to clearly detect his exact location.
Although Ding Mingguang had left a mark on Yan Biqing, in a place devoid of electronic devices, Ding Mingguang’s powers were severely weakened, so he could only determine the approximate location.
However, for Wenwen, finding Yan Biqing here was easy.
"I couldn’t pluck you out from the entire city, but just an amusement park, how could I not find you?"
Wenwen shrieked, and after waiting a moment, a large swarm of bats whizzed and fluttered over.
But they were only willing to stop outside the amusement park, not daring to fly in.
Compared to humans, animals are more sensitive to the presence of danger; to the bats, this place was like a den of demons.
"The target I’m searching for is inside, find him, but don’t startle him," Wenwen issued the command.
But those bats just hovered outside, unwilling to go in.
Wenwen sighed softly, his eyes widening, and an eerie aura spread out.
The bats no longer hesitated and all rushed into the amusement park.
There are two types of commands a vampire can give to bats: one is more benign, allowing control of the bats to aid in tasks; the other is coercive and can even order the bats to die.
The amusement park was so terrifying to the bats that without a coercive command, no bat would willingly enter.
Swarms of bats flew through every corner of the amusement park while Wenwen used the information relayed by the bats to deduce Yan Biqing’s possible hiding spots.
When he finally pinpointed Yan Biqing’s location, only half of the bats returned safely.
The other half, though likely not dead, had slipped from Wenwen’s control and probably underwent mutations both mentally and physically.
The residual Catastrophe Level qi here was now very faint. If a regular person was lucky, entering as a simpleton might result in emerging as a forgiving hero.
But with bad luck, one might turn into a psychotic killer or something of the sort. It was bad, but there was no risk to life.
For a feeble creature like a bat, however, the impact was much greater, far more perilous than a dragon’s den or a tiger’s lair.
The bats, their faces rat-like, showed humanized expressions of fear; Wenwen waved his hand and let them fly away.
Once given the command, the bats, as if pardoned, fled rapidly.
"Damn it, when I called you over, why didn’t you fly this quickly?"
"Maybe in the future, there will be legends of genetically mutated bats around here, but what does that have to do with me, hehehe."
...
Just outside the amusement park, Gong Baoding and Ding Mingguang stopped.
If they moved any further, Yan Biqing might detect them, and even wounded as he was, it was far too risky.
"You stay here and keep watch. I’ll go look around and see the situation. Be careful not to act rashly," Gong Baoding told Ding Mingguang.
Ding Mingguang nodded. Gong Baoding had always been a trustworthy senior, so Ding Mingguang just thought he wanted to ensure the mission was well executed, never suspecting that Gong Baoding was actually the one taking risks.
After leaving, Gong Baoding tried to contact Wenwen but found he could no longer do so.
Because the beacon Wenwen had placed on Gong Baoding only worked when Wenwen was at the Catastrophe Containment Facility; Wenwen outside the facility did not have this ability.
However, there was no need to use the beacon anymore because, unexpectedly, a strange figure had appeared before Gong Baoding.
This figure, cloaked in black, had a body slightly blurred and translucent beneath the cloak.
Upon inspecting with spiritual intuition, one could see the body was surrounded by dozens of vengeful spirits, which was somewhat frightening to look at.
Could it be... this isn’t human?
No, although it looked like a Fierce Spirit, it lacked the fierce qi typical of such beings; it was probably just a superpower user with special abilities.
"Hehe, so you’re the new Containment Officer? Didn’t expect an old man," the figure cackled.
"I’m not old," Gong Baoding frowned and said.
The person’s voice was hoarse and unpleasant, with a texture like nails scratching on metal, producing an itch in one’s heart upon listening.
Based merely on this voice, the man before him was probably no good sort.
Of course, this person was Wenwen, now using Qin Shuang’s Fierce Spirit physique, combined with the capabilities of the Guile Tree Spirit to create a very odd voice, perfectly concealing his identity.
He was somewhat grateful that the Fierce Spirit had a partial physical form so it could wear clothes; otherwise, to avoid blowing his cover, Wenwen might have needed to come here stark naked...
Yes, truly stark naked.
