Chapter 138: Chapter 136: Humans and Ants
The instinct for survival prompted Wen Wen to run without even glancing at his surroundings; he bolted at the fastest speed he had ever achieved in his life, leaving behind a trail of black smoke as he fled the bounds of the factory.
After escaping, the vampire’s self-healing powers began to take effect, starting to heal his body.
Having spent less than thirty seconds inside, Wen Wen’s skin had been completely destroyed.
Looking back toward the factory, Wen Wen saw it had been leveled, a vast hole blasted in the center of it. The reason he had plummeted for a short distance immediately after coming out was precisely this.
The black energy lingered around the factory, swirling without dissipating, assailing anyone who entered its range.
If Wen Wen had run any slower just now, he would have been killed by the attack he himself unleashed.
"This... this is Catastrophe Level!"
Channelling the energy to this point involved tremendous loss; the strength that reached here was only a tenth of what Wen Wen had initially released.
Yet even so, it had caused such a terrifying scene.
"Lin Zheyuan once said that hundreds of years ago, a Catastrophe Level monster known as the Drought Fiend came into the world, turning any land it trod to scorched earth. I thought he was exaggerating, but maybe Catastrophe Level power really can do that!"
"Heh heh heh, with such power, that guy behind the scenes enjoying the show, he must be delighted, even if I can’t see his face."
With all the skin on his face gone, Wen Wen cracked a mad laugh, his skin regrowing visibly fast, the sight somewhat ghastly.
His laughter halted mid-course, as the freshly grown skin tore apart, leaving Wen Wen looking like a blood-streaked gourd.
The black energy coiled around the surface of Wen Wen’s skin, inflicting continuous damage, preventing him even from self-healing.
"Damn it, I can’t even dispel the attack I released myself, truly embarrassing."
Out of options, Wen Wen reverted to his Catastrophe Prison Warden form and then returned to the Sanctuary to personally remove this energy.
Once he had recovered, Wen Wen casually modified a cell to make it as luxurious as a five-star hotel.
Being able to transform his cell, Wen Wen didn’t really need a room of his own in the Sanctuary.
After taking a bath, he lay down on a couch wearing a white lab coat, pondering how to wield the power of the Catastrophe Prison Warden.
"In the future, if I’m poisoned or cursed, or subjected to some kind of delayed attack, I can return to the Sanctuary and avert the crisis."
"Wait... if I encounter an unbeatable enemy, I could just manipulate a Puppet to self-destruct. Doesn’t that make me invincible?"
"Tsk tsk, just shooting the breeze here, there’s actually a lot I could do."
Lying on the couch, his mind wandering with ideas, it wasn’t long before Wen Wen fell asleep.
Even with a vampire’s constitution, recovering from such severe injuries was exhausting, and he needed rest to regain his optimal condition.
...
The night was ink-dark, thick clouds covering the sky, the brightness coming only from human structures.
Gao Fang floated through the night as if weightless.
"Why did I agree not to take action in the first five days? It’s so boring, I have to find something interesting to do myself."
After roaming for a while, an intrigued look appeared in his eyes; he dropped down outside a villa, crouching down to intently observe the ground.
There were two anthills, one of red ants and one of black ants, each well-ordered and not disturbing the other, surprising Gao Fang.
After watching for a while, he took out a cube of sugar from his pocket, scraped off some granules, connected the two anthills with them, and then tossed the sugar cube at the entrance of the black ant’s nest.
After that, he led a red ant to discover the sugar cube.
He directed with enthusiasm for a while, and the two ant nests, which had previously not offended each other, began fighting each other to the death.
"You’re truly cruel."
A beautiful middle-aged woman, standing behind Gao Fang, said with a frown.
"Cruel?"
"No, this is just playing around. They’re too weak, so they can only be toys to be idly manipulated. We are the same, higher beings treat us just like we treat these ants, as mere playthings."
Gao Fang didn’t turn around but responded with a mocking tone.
"And foolish humans are still guessing whether such beings have schemes, not knowing that in front of such beings, humans are nothing but lower life forms fighting desperately for candies."
Done speaking, Gao Fang turned his head and looked at the middle-aged woman, his eyes lighting up. She was not a superpower user, but she possessed many traits that many superpower users didn’t have, which was very illogical. His luck was good to encounter such an interesting person so casually.
"As an ordinary person, in this dark night, you actually saw me playing with these ants. You have really good eyesight."
He picked up the sugar cube from the black ant nest, not minding the dirt and a few ants on it, and put the sugar ball directly into his mouth.
"You won’t even leave them the sugar?"
The woman looked at Gao Fang with disgust. She was none other than Liao Jiaxin, whom they had met initially at the Wen Wen Museum, and this was right at her doorstep.
"Heh, they’re just ants that would fight to the death over a piece of sugar. To them, of course, I’ll do whatever I want."
"If someone regards me as insignificant as an ant, naturally, they’ll do whatever they want with me."
Liao Jiaxin’s face showed pity. Ever since she met Grandi, it was as if she had become a different person, filled with compassion for everything, whether human or animal.
Especially towards Grandi, she was obsessively caring, not letting him suffer any harm.
"I’m stronger than you too, so I’ll treat you however I want," Gao Fang said with a twisted smile.
Then he reached out and said to Liao Jiaxin, "Let’s book a game for now. Once the game is over, I’ll come looking for you."
"Why look for her when you can deal with me?"
A hunched figure pushed open the villa’s gate and limped towards them.
Liao Jiaxin quickly supported the person, chiding, "How can you carelessly come out with your health condition? Go back quickly, don’t catch a cold again."
Grandi shook his head helplessly. He and Liao Jiaxin had been living together for some time. Initially, he tried everything to kill this woman, but nothing worked.
She didn’t have a shred of Supernatural Power in her body, yet even if he shot her in the forehead, the bullet would mysteriously miss. After a few attempts, Grandi understood that he couldn’t kill her.
Liao Jiaxin’s meticulous care had also softened Grandi’s heart, making it hard for him to lay a hand on her, even though what she was doing now was more overbearing than killing him.
"I’ve heard about you, a lunatic who likes to find what you consider interesting and then destroy it. Come at me instead."
Grandi said, standing in front of Liao Jiaxin.
His goal wasn’t to shield Liao Jiaxin; he wasn’t that kind-hearted, but to use Gao Fang’s hands to kill himself.
Gao Fang snorted and said, "Hmph, you’re just a waste, what could possibly interest me about you?"
"Aren’t you looking for something interesting? I’m much more interesting than she is," Grandi said with a smirk, looking at Gao Fang.
