Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 123 - 121: The Philosopher
Chapter 123: Chapter 121: The Philosopher
Wen Wen first transformed himself into a ghostly physique and placed the vampire’s hypnotic ability into the ring, waiting ten minutes to ensure he could switch back at any time during battle.
Then, he floated into the security room and hypnotized the guard so that no matter what noises he heard, he was not permitted to leave the security room.
Finally, he easily passed through walls into the museum without triggering any form of security measure—almost too easily.
With his variety of abilities, it was normal for him to infiltrate a place with ease, but he still felt a bit uneasy.
He manifested the Calamity Gloves and tested them on the items tagged with a supernatural aura that he had recorded during the day.
One, two, three, he tested over a dozen items, but none of them reacted to the Calamity Gloves...
"This shouldn’t be..."
Wen Wen’s brows knitted into a frown, then gradually relaxed, his expression turning unusual.
"I might as well take everything in this museum away. To hell with the consequences, I’ll just sort out the right item later and return the rest!"
He wasn’t just speaking, he was seriously planning to do it.
With that black briefcase, even if he took all the artifacts, it wouldn’t be a problem for him.
No sooner had he thought it, than Wen Wen returned to the Catastrophe Containment Facility, took out the black briefcase, and fetched a large sledgehammer from inside it.
He swung the hammer back, ready to smash down, when a refined voice came from behind him.
"What are you doing?"
Wen Wen turned his head and saw a man standing behind him, appearing out of nowhere.
The man wore glasses, a bow-tied vest, and sported a sexy little mustache. He was white-haired but bore a strikingly handsome face, looking curiously at Wen Wen.
"Uh, I was thinking of chiseling a closet, eighty with one hammer..." Wen Wen said somewhat awkwardly, caught in the act.
The man shook his head gently, signaling Wen Wen not to be nervous, his posture making Wen Wen stare in astonishment.
"Damn, I actually find a man sexy!"
Shaking his head, Wen Wen warily watched this man, who should not be underestimated for being able to appear suddenly behind him.
Suddenly, Wen Wen’s eyes widened. He had seen this man earlier in the day—in an oil painting in the museum!
He was the philosopher in the painting!
Resurrected zombie? Immortal? A supernatural power-induced illusion? Illusion? Shapeshifter?
Wen Wen’s mind raced with countless possibilities, but he couldn’t determine which it was.
"By the way, do you like philosophy?" the white-bearded philosopher suddenly asked.
Wen Wen paused, unsure how to respond. Was this a trial to obtain that item?
He hesitated for a second before tentatively answering, "I like it?"
The philosopher’s eyes lit up instantly, and he spoke with the speed of a lotus flower blooming from his tongue:
"Then, I have a question for you. A lunatic has tied up five innocent people on a railway track, and a tram will run them over and kill them."
"You can pull a lever to divert the tram to another track, but there is also one person tied up on that track. Do you pull the lever?"
"What kind of bizarre question is that, a death sentence indeed!"
Wen Wen, feeling frustrated, paused for another two seconds before deciding, "I choose to leave, let someone else decide, I don’t want to make that choice."
"Wrong answer!"
The white-bearded philosopher stripped off his vest, revealing only a white tank top underneath, his robust muscles bulging the fabric.
Then, out of nowhere, he produced a Wolf Fang Club!
"...the style changed so quickly!"
"Ah! Philosophical sanction!"
White Beard, the philosopher, swung his club in attack.
Wen Wen threw his head back, and the Wolf Fang Club grazed past the tip of his nose, drawing a trickle of blood.
His golden pupils contracted— the philosopher could actually injure a ghost!
Wen Wen’s entire form floated up, leveraging his speed and ghostly soul to tangle with the philosopher for a bit before hastily retreating.
This guy’s physical capabilities were probably close to the human limit, the type who could rip off a car door with his bare hands, but compared to Wen Wen’s vampire state, it was still no match.
However, his attacks contained something special that Wen Wen could not quite figure out.
Moreover, this white-bearded philosopher seemed tireless, fighting silently without damaging the building.
Just as Wen Wen was about to switch back to vampire mode to deal with this guy, he paused, eyes narrowing.
"Let’s not rush to deal with him, let’s see what happens first..."
Then, Wen Wen’s form became ethereal, seeping directly into the ground and reappearing outside the museum’s entrance a moment later, observing the philosopher.
About ten minutes after Wen Wen left, the frenzied philosopher vanished into thin air like a bubble.
"I thought so; even if I had taken that guy down, I might not have found the item. If I had accidentally damaged something during the fight, drawing attention, there might never be another chance..."
"That thing must be here, I’ll watch the whole process again, maybe I can find a clue."
Wen Wen first went to the pond outside the museum, took some water, and then entered the museum with it. He used his Water Ghost abilities to turn the water into mist, which floated around him.
Having Water Control abilities, Water Ghost could naturally sense moisture; if the mist changed, Wen Wen would notice.
This method couldn’t monitor a very large area, but monitoring closely around him was feasible; the last White Bearded philosopher had appeared right next to Wen Wen.
A moment later, the mist shifted subtly, and Wen Wen understood, turning around.
"This crisp moisture, I feel like I’ve found the sea."
A middle-aged man in a blue nightgown appeared behind Wen Wen, smelling the mist with a refined air, probably not as volatile as the previous person.
As expected, Wen Wen had also seen this man in a painting at the museum.
"If you like the feel of the sea, I can take you to the beach..." Wen Wen interrupted the literary philosopher who was sniffing around.
"Do you like philosophy?" the literary philosopher asked with a smile.
"Like it?" Wen Wen answered unsurely.
"Then, let me ask, if there is an old ship that needs to replace its parts due to damages, and after all its parts are replaced, is it still the same ship?" the literary philosopher asked excitedly.
"Uh, is it...or is it not?"
For some reason, as Wen Wen answered, he felt a quiver in his liver, feeling like he was a child facing a teacher’s question.
"Wrong answer, receive philosophy’s judgment!"
The literary philosopher tore off his robe, revealing a blue bodysuit underneath, which, shockingly, was filled with the same robust muscles as the previous White Beard philosopher.
Then he leaped up three meters high in place, aiming to smash Wen Wen’s skull with his bare hands.
"Ah..."
Wen Wen sighed while dodging the attack and complained.
"I understand if you turn aggressive, but you can’t defy objective reality, philosophers aren’t supposed to be this buff..."
