Chapter 112: Chapter 112: The Containment Officer’s Room

Lin Zheyuan walked up to Gong Baoding and asked, "One last question, why didn’t Mr. L kill you back then?"

"I was puzzled by that myself. He indeed intended to make a move against me, but just then, a bell started to ring and he stopped," Gong Baoding replied.

"Bell sounds?" Lin Zheyuan frowned and inquired.

Thinking back, Gong Baoding said, "Yes, the sound of a bell. After it rang, Mr. L said this: ’You were the one who told me his location, so why won’t you let me kill him now!’"

"So it wasn’t Mr. L who found me; instead, it was someone else who informed him of my whereabouts."

"It seems Mr. L’s affairs are not yet over, and remnants are still lurking in the shadows."

Knowing this, Lin Zheyuan was not overly disheartened. For hunters like them, troubles were never-ending.

"For the coming period, you will be under supervision until it is confirmed that you have no issues. Do you agree?"

Even though Lin Zheyuan no longer doubted Gong Baoding, he knew that it was necessary to follow procedures.

"No problem, I accept the supervision."

In fact, Gong Baoding himself wanted to be under supervision. Even though his dealings with the man in the black robe seemed innocuous, he still wanted to make sure there was nothing left on him by that man as a contingency.

As Gong Baoding was being escorted away by Association members, he touched his chest.

Unbeknownst to him, the Disaster Containment Officer’s badge pendant had appeared around his neck...

...

Elsewhere, inside the Sanctuary, Wen Wen was surreptitiously looking through the items left by Gong Baoding.

Because Gong Baoding had entered in spirit form, he didn’t take anything except for the Containment Officer pendant bound to him.

With high-level access, Wen Wen was free to peruse his possessions.

The containment officer uniform, sharing a style with the one Wen Wen was wearing, looked significantly different. It would be difficult for an ordinary person to associate the two.

Wen Wen’s uniform appeared more casual, while Gong Baoding’s was more formal.

Furthermore, although Gong Baoding’s uniform was also of fine quality compared to regular clothes, there was still a considerable gap between his and Wen Wen’s, reflective of the distinction between custom-made and mass-produced.

Besides, Gong Baoding needed to use a chain or a special ritual to enter the Sanctuary, while Wen Wen could enter directly.

This made Wen Wen even more certain of his uniqueness.

As to the origin of this uniqueness, he couldn’t precisely say.

Perhaps it was because he was the first containment officer after the Sanctuary’s restart.

Or perhaps it was because he was inherently different.

After looking through everything, Wen Wen took the key to Gong Baoding’s room and headed to the residential area near the Disaster Hub Zone.

Each containment officer should have their own room; however, Wen Wen did not...

He had long coveted these rooms but couldn’t enter any due to lacking the keys.

The lock-picking skills he had honed as a detective were completely useless against the doors in the Sanctuary.

Upon opening the door, a musty smell wafted through the air, causing Wen Wen to cover his nose. Clearly, the room hadn’t been entered in a long time.

Observing the room’s antique décor, which looked like it belonged to an ancient inhabitant, Wen Wen’s eyes lit up.

Any item taken from inside could be considered an antique. The various pots and bowls were likely to fetch a good price.

"This feels just like treasure hunting, heh heh."

Wen Wen first moved the most valuable-looking items to the outside of the door, and as for the remaining things, he planned to leave them for Gong Baoding — after all, if he’s eating meat, he should at least let him have some soup!

After taking the items that were obviously valuable, Wen Wen began to search further.

This was the living quarters of the former Containment Officer, so he should be able to find some useful stuff.

Soon, Wen Wen found the items that the former Containment Officer had hidden away in a secret compartment of a cabinet.

At the very top were several ingots of gold and some silver!

"Cough cough... Maybe I should free myself from such lowly pleasures as making money," he said.

"I should focus on hunting monsters just for the sense of justice in my heart. Wealth and treasures are but passing clouds."

As Wen Wen stuffed the gold and silver into his pockets, he muttered nonsense, clearly stimulated by the discovery.

Thinking back to his years as a detective, he hadn’t even saved enough money to buy a house, which was indeed a cause for both heartache and tears.

But from now on, he wouldn’t have to worry about money. The Catastrophe Containment Facility was a huge treasure trove; as long as he kept guard over it, Wen Wen would have an endless supply of wealth!

Besides the eye-catching gold and silver, there were some other items that caught his attention.

An antique dagger that exuded an intense cold Qi, a strange-looking withered grass doll, a curved horn left behind by some unknown creature, and an Eight Trigrams jade pendant.

These four items appeared to have once been Supernatural Items.

But now, except for the dagger, none of the items retained their spirituality, as too much time had passed.

The dagger didn’t have a single trace of rust. Wen Wen picked it up and swung it around, finding it extremely handy, even much better than his painstakingly crafted Rune Dagger.

"I already have my own Rune Dagger... But when it comes to weapons, one can never have too many. It’s exhilarating just to think about using an antique to chop people up," he said.

As for the other three items, Wen Wen only took the horn, which, although void of spirituality, should still be a rather precious material.

He left the remaining two items for Gong Baoding.

If Wen Wen hadn’t scavenged like this, everything in the room would have naturally belonged to Gong Baoding.

After replacing the secret compartment, Wen Wen continued to search the room.

In the study, there was a bookshelf filled with ancient books, most of which were in tatters due to neglect.

Wen Wen picked out the most intact ones to take with him, planning to sell them as antiques — they should be worth some money at least.

Suddenly, Wen Wen spotted a well-sealed box on the bookshelf, indicating the books inside must be important.

He opened the box eagerly, and indeed, the books inside were intact and not too severely damaged.

He flipped open the top book, and the expression on his face stiffened.

It was actually an ancient erotic book, illustrated at that!

The top two or three books were all of this nature. Originally, Wen Wen had a lot of respect for this unknown predecessor, but after seeing these...

Well, he felt a lot more connected to him.

Wen Wen decided not to sell these books — even though they were antiques, selling erotic books could potentially affect his reputation.

"Hmm, let’s leave these for Gong Baoding. He’s still single at his age and might have special needs," he said, chuckling mischievously.

After a few snickers, Wen Wen found something different at the very bottom of the box.

It was a journal signed by the Ranger, Lin Songzhi.
